Avatar f tn I too have many allergies to antibiotics. Anytime I get sick (which is frequent), the doctors have a huge problem as to what they should treat me with. My doctor has suggested desensitization to some of the antibiotics (there are some that would help my lung infections tremendously and would be a benefit to desensitize to them). As for your daughter, there are still meds they can use....but with caution. It seems that she is very sensitive to anything foreign med wise.
Avatar n tn The fat lip also is commonly secondarily infected with bacteria, so I would recommend a 2-3 week course of antibiotics if not already done. The three types of allergies are parasite (fleas, mites), food allergy, and pollen/dust allergies. If your cat is already on a good flea control such as Advantage or Revolution, then parasites are less likely.

Avatar n tn Normally, during the course of evolution from a baby to an adult, we develop a mechanism by which we desensitize ourselves to all the materials we are exposed to. But sometimes, the desensitization may not be perfect and we develop allergic reactions to those few substances. This is what happened in your case.
118225 tn?1278654940 I was just curious if there was a long term relief for cat allergies. I have heard many people say there is a simple shot to take them away...but wonder if this is true, and how often the shot would be needed. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
874521 tn?1424116797 My cat has allergies that cause skin breakouts, I've done the steroid route and this works for awhile, now using a change in food and omega 3's and so far he has only had one small breakout that lasted only 2 days and didn't go on to become open and raw sores. My question is, I've read that sometimes benadryl at .25mg per pound can be successful in cats. Is this also avail in topical form rather than using systemically?
168348 tn?1379357075 Hi, Elimination diet is for suspected food allergies. An elimination diet is designed to detect and identify sensitivities to certain foods. Here, the suspected allergen (type of food) is totally eliminated from the diet for a period of time (from two weeks to two months) and observations are made to see if the symptoms are resolved during this period. And if resolved, the ‘food’ is re introduced to see if symptoms re occur, termed as challenge-dechallenge-rechallenge (CDR).
Avatar n tn Normally, during the course of evolution from a baby to an adult, we develop a mechanism by which we desensitize ourselves to all the materials we are exposed to. But sometimes, the desensitization may not be perfect and we develop allergic reactions to those few substances. On exposure to the allergen, an Immunologic (IgE) or a non-immunologic reaction is set in process, which ultimately releases histamine, which acts at the peripheral receptors, resulting in allergic reactions.
Avatar m tn Like when you get out of a colder pool on a cool day the cooler air feels warm compared to the cold water in the pool. So my regular allergies were nothing compared to the reaction of the shots. That made the regular allergies go completely away for a while. I didn't need antihistamine the next day. What is your personal opinion on this. Thank you.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I talked to one doctor about desensitization to allergies from shots. is it safe and does it work like for dust mites?
Avatar n tn My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays, she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
Avatar f tn s itch persists despite strict flea control every month, antibiotics, antihistamines and the OTC hypoallergenic diet, then the potential reasons would be a yeast skin infection, microscopic skin parasites such as cheyletiella, food allergy unresponsive to OTC foods (many food allergic dogs require prescription foods such as Royal Canin rabbit/potato, and the key is to give nothing else but water since it only takes one bite of a non-hypoallergenic food to ruin the diet trial), or a different al

Avatar f tn Has anyone tried LDA for food allergies? I'm desperate! I recently tested positive to over 20 foods! I'm starving and feel malnurished. This is ruining my life. I no longer can go out to eat, travel, or be a guest at anyone's house. Friends have stopped inviting me to do things. My family thinks I'm exaggerating my allergies but when I eat an offending food, my mouth goes numb, tongue feels funny and my asthma is triggered. That is a very scary feeling to me.
Avatar n tn Mathis suggested and, if the urine is normal, I would suggest calling the veterinary dermatologist back to discuss further diagnostic and treatment options such as skin biopsy and/or allergy skin testing and desensitization injections for pollen and dust allergies--if the hypoallergenic diet is not working, you need to take the next step to find out what the real cause of the problem is. Good luck, Kimberly Coyner, DVM DACVD www.dermvet.
Avatar f tn How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Thanks for the tips and suggestions friends!
Avatar f tn Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.
Avatar f tn There is research being done on treatment for peanut and milk allergies. If you are concerned about this, find a doctor that is participating in the research. There is substancial history supporting safe and effective use of this type of treatment. The method has been used sucessfully with drugs allergies for years. I hope that helps some. God bless.
Avatar m tn Skin problems are very common this time of year and can be very frustrating. From the information you provided, it appears that you have been trying to account for allergies with only steroids working. A dietary change was made to rule out food allergy. Hopefully the heartworm preventative you are using is not flavored with beef to effectively rule out food. At this time, you may want to request a referral to a veterinary dermatologist to further pursue the problem.
Avatar n tn If it is not poisoning it could be Atopy, or food allergy dermatitis, which should also be addressed by a veterinarian. Allergies are something that a dog will have for life. There is no cure, but there are many treatments. Treatments include antihistamines, steroids, drugs like Atopica, hypoallergenic foods, desensitization therapy, and more. Occasionally, constant licking of the legs can be a behavioral abnormality due to boredom or a compulsive behavior.
2169449 tn?1358489923 I take Zyrtec 10 mg tablet daily im allergic to my cat/ seasonal allergies etc.
4319578 tn?1352739861 This test is painless, in which a very small amount of certain allergens are pricked into the surface of your skin. If you have allergies, just a little swelling will occur where the allergen was introduced. Reactions occur within about 15 minutes. If needed more sensitive intradermal tests will be used in which a small amount of allergen is injected within the skin. Based on this he may plan for immunotherapy. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
