How much of a chance will my little girl be allergic to cats? I'm kinda worried because we have a cat (he's family not just a cat) and I don't want her to be allergic, neither my boyfriend and I are allergic, and no one in my family is either.
My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays,she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
Anything you put on their body, can be dangerous or fatal to them. If you want to put something on your cat, to be safe and run it by your vet first.
As for the fleas, and YES, although your cat is indoors only, she can still have fleas. We bring them into our homes ourselves and then they get our cats. The neck is a famous place for the fleas to hit. The fleas have also attacked my cats neck and she scratched her neck raw, too.
How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.
My doctor and every other midwife has known I have a cat and only warned against changing the cat litter, and even explained that my cat is at low risk from transfering any infection dangerous to me and baby since she is an indoor cat and the only one in the house. The midwife I saw monday immidiatly asked me if I had a cat (misplaced my lint roller so was cat hair on my coat) and directly told me it was dangerous to even be around my cat because the risk of infection.
over the next couple weeks i started getting vertigo whenever it felt like my ear was starting to open it would last 2 hours to 10 hours, not getting any answers from my doctor, i went to the emergency rm.
I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.

Cat feces CAN (not all do) contain toxoplasmosis which is why you shouldn't change or touch cat poop. If you have had cats before you'be probably been exposed to it before but pregnant women are more susceptible to toxoplasmosis. As long as you dont change litter or pick up poop, you'll be fine.

My cat was just dx'd with herpes in her eyes. For years, we too, thought it was allergies, but no. According to my vet, herpes is very common in cats. The way I figured out what was possibly going on with my cat was to google "feline herpes conjunctivitis." Some sites will give you pictures to look at and compare as well as descriptions.
Discharge from the eyes have many possible dx's, but a simple blood test will confirm whether your kitty has herpes or not.

Usually if the cat has food allergies, they will scratch around their neck, top of their head and possibly around their face. It could also be allergies from something else, such as fleas, flea bites or dust. This is harder to determine and may have to be discovered by a vet. I'm so confused! My cat has allergies, and the vet has given her steroids, but that only helps for a little bit and I don't want to keep giving her that. I got out a healthy alternative book for cats and it says to give her garlic, and for her to breathe eucalyptus oil. I looked online at other sources which say garlic and eucalyptus oil are toxic to cats. I don't know what to do! I don't want to kill my cat, but she needs some relief! How do I know whats the truth?

First for a little back story... I have four cats (two males, two females, all different ages, strictly indoor only, declawed front and rear, and all have consumed the same food for life). Until last year, I never routinely put topical flea medication on the cats because we have never had problems with fleas. About a year ago, all my cats went to stay with my mother while I was out of town. My mother has four cats of her own, and has kept all the cats in the past.
I have a cat that is almost 18 years old. He has always been a scar that hides from everyone. He has been hanging out with us and around the dogs and is really stuffy. He has a lot of snot in his nose, it is hard for him to breathe, he gags and coughs and has runny eyes. My husband just thinks he is old with allergies but I'm concerned. I dissolve his food in water and crush it up and he drinks and eats fine. Not sure what to do? Can I give him something for the allergies?
