My dad grew up with a cat allergy he couldnt be in a house where cats lived...he would get itchy, cough and sneeze but he grew out of it, because we now have four and they don't bother him...the last two years or so whenever i am near the cats i get the same symptoms my eyes water, cough, stuffy nose its like a sudden cold. Is it possible that i have received the same allergy my dad had? are allergics hereditary?
I have had cat allergies all my life which is a REAL bummer because I'm an animal lover and love kitties! My main symptoms? Itchy eyes. I get one cat hair near me and my eyes turn red, swell, start watering and then itch horribly. This is a common allergic reaction to cats. If it is a new cough, I'd say it's likely a virus and coughs linger with that. Once the air way is irritated, the cough will stay for a bit. But all allergies I suffer and my son involve itchiness.
Says his throat hurts, dr decided he had some sort of reflux then and allergies. Now he has always had allergies but I never knew allergies to cause all the rest of this stuff. So came home with more meds. A few days later we were back at the drs office, she sent us to the hospital for blood work this time to check for mono and pneumonia.
it could be allergies or maybe mono? if you have not had this before it can present as sore throat that is ongoing but is also generally along with fever, and tiredness and you had fever, a mono spot test if you have it would show up positive 2 weeks after symptoms first apparantly.
I am allergic to cat,dust,moulds.As a result,i got rid of cat and still ill.I take Advair,Nasonex,Cough suppressent,cough drops and for 1.5 months now i am losing my voice to varying degrees!!!Dr.says keep taking what i do and a virus going around(that is why voice is bad)He is WRONG!! I also get an itch lower side of throat that makes me cough a lot.Is there anything to help me out there especially since i am gradually getting worse over the years and now my voice is going.

I've been allergic ever since I was a little boy and I've learned to live with that. My problem is that during the last couple of years, I seem to get more and more sensitive to the allergens that trigger my reactions, as well as more prone to have shortness of breath as a primary reaction!
This year, although spring hadn't affected me so far, I happened to catch a cold (whether it was the flu, a cold or bacterial infection I don't know!

The other causes for long term cough besides asthma are GERD and post nasal drip from allergies. GERD is gastro esophageal reflux disease where the stomach acids come back into the esophagus and spill into the wind pipe causing cough. Treatment with antacids will help neutralize the acids. Post nasal drips can occur with sinusitis and throat infections. Giving up cigarettes will abolish smoker's cough in 90% of people.
my 4yr old golden retriever is constantly sniffing where my 13yr old bengal cat has been. They are both males and the cat has been spayed. My cat has had a cough or asthma for over a year now. Last year I took him to the vet where they did all sorts of tests, bloodwork, xrays & scans etc. It was very expensive & my cat was petrified over the few days they did all this. The vet said his heart looked unusual but it was fine. He gave me theophylline for the cough which did help.
hi Pam,,, I'm no expert, just another copd sufferer and a cat mommy. IMO there shouldn't be a reason that your cats are causing copd itself......cat allergies will cause asthma flares but asthma and copd aren't the same...copd is a disease in itself and not a symptom. I will send you a website incase it will help answer some questions.............oh I sure hope you won't have to give up the rescue org.
I take Advair for allergies,cat,moulds,dust and Dr.said i have sinus drip that causes me to cough a lot.Inhaler helped,but now i find i am losing my voice.I had a sore throat for 2 weeks,now my voice is very weak, only whisper,and some flem at back of throat at times.If i talk normal cracky and difficult for 2 weeks now.Sometimes i feel inhaler is causing my voice problems or both?
My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays,she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
Mine had all gotten URI and one started to cough; what my vet told me was as long as everything is clear, keep your cat comfy, hydrated and eating. If any mucus from nose or eyes turns yellow or green, antibiotics are needed. What he didn't say was coughing is a sign of danger and should not be ignored-one of mine started to cough but wasn't producing anything for a few days until sudddenly he coughed up a huge gob of phlegm; he had pneumonia. Happily we were abie to save him.
My 9 year old cat has a cough. She gets real low and stretched out and coughs. It looks like it's a lot of hard work and she sounds gurgly/raspy like she's got a drip or something.
She breaths through her nose and hasn't got anything running from her nose and otherwise seems fine.
Her coat is still sleek and smooth and shiny and she's still a happy pain in my behind.
Could it be allergies?
It's going to be over two months before I can get a vet to see her due to finances.
s all night long, i took her to the doctor and she said she had a blue undertone in her nasal area which means allergies i guess?? i have never heard of that, she isnt sleeping cause she is coughing all night long, what could it be???
Are you allergic to cat dander and your cough is a symptom of allergic (to cats) asthma or are you and the cats reacting to a common allergen. The temporal relationship of your exposure to the cats and your wife’s residence certainly suggests a relationship between your respiratory illness and your introduction to a new indoor environment.
I am unfamiliar with cat asthma but I did a literature search and found the following report that bears on this question.
Although I am a smoker I had been attributing recent episodes of breathlessness with allergies. Because if my cat had been in my room and I go to bed I will awake coughing with my nostrils closed up so I would get up take Nyquil and go back to sleep. Everytime that would happen during the day if I tried to nap it would always be when the cat was lying near and during the day when the problem would arise I would take Dayquil and my nostril opens and the coughing would cease.
A cat that was injured before or hurt in any way often pull there hair out. Pain causes them to pull out the hair in places where there in pain or either itching from healing.
How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?!
