My cat has been sneezing and having nasal discharge for a month now. She has no other symptoms. She plays,she eats well. Just sneezes and has nasal drainage. Her eyes are good. No swollen or runny eyes. Is this allergies? I noticed she usually only sneezes when her nose touches objects or she sniffs. Sometimes mucous comes out with the sneeze.
How do y'all deal with cat allergies?!?!? I've just recently become super allergic to my best friends cat's and I wanna be able to go see her without her cats killing me!!! (or me wanting to kill myself for that matter!) It's really bad, and my eyes, ears, throat, nose and basically whole body have really become anti-cats lately :( What should I do?!?!?! Some ideas for the skin condition are that your new puppy could have brought in some ecto-parasites into the house and these have infested your cat, or your cat could have developed food allergies (which can occur at any age), or this could be psychogenic alopecia, in that she is pulling out the hair due to stress or depression (possibly from the loss of your 13 year old dog and the arrival of the new puppy).
I don't like the idea that she has become boney either.
Allergies aren't hereditary but they can come and go. Some people outgrow allergies and others get them when they are older. My little brother had a lot of allergies when he was a kid (including pet dander) and outgrew them, while I didn't have them as a child but became more prone to them as an adult.
I have a 7 year old cat,male.All winter and spring he was fine,till the weather got better.Then he started to jump up on the window ledge as always.( Summer and Fall }He has started to lick off the hair on his bag legs,lower belly and parts of his tail.also noticed some type of uzing liquid that is warm.We noticed because he lye's on a towel.
over the next couple weeks i started getting vertigo whenever it felt like my ear was starting to open it would last 2 hours to 10 hours, not getting any answers from my doctor, i went to the emergency rm.
I was told with my first they don't develop allergies until the age of 1 or 2 yrs. I can't remember which. It's been 5 yrs ago lol. Having a cat will actually help build up their immune system.

Certainly diseases may cause coat changes including color, however, there would likely also be other indications. If your cat is 6 or 7, it would be wise to have some basic laboratory work done to rule out underlying systemic disease (blood, urine) and if these are normal, I would do as you have suggested, and not worry about it.
On the other hand, if abnormalities are found, pursue them.

The obvious solution is to take immunotherapy (allergy shots). However, when I contacted my allergist's secretary she said that they do no have one. I would like to rebut her claim, but in order to do so I need proof that this exists.
I believe I was told the same thing about her coat changing color as she aged. My cat book mentioned another color called mink, so I remember asking the vet if my cat was really a red point or a mink point. He seemed to think that red point was still the correct name of her coloring. Either way, she was still the same pet cat that I had grown to love dearly. She would never have made it as a show cat, since she was simply too painfully shy for such a thing.

My cat was just dx'd with herpes in her eyes. For years, we too, thought it was allergies, but no. According to my vet, herpes is very common in cats. The way I figured out what was possibly going on with my cat was to google "feline herpes conjunctivitis." Some sites will give you pictures to look at and compare as well as descriptions.
Discharge from the eyes have many possible dx's, but a simple blood test will confirm whether your kitty has herpes or not.

Usually if the cat has food allergies, they will scratch around their neck, top of their head and possibly around their face. It could also be allergies from something else, such as fleas, flea bites or dust. This is harder to determine and may have to be discovered by a vet. I'm so confused! My cat has allergies, and the vet has given her steroids, but that only helps for a little bit and I don't want to keep giving her that. I got out a healthy alternative book for cats and it says to give her garlic, and for her to breathe eucalyptus oil. I looked online at other sources which say garlic and eucalyptus oil are toxic to cats. I don't know what to do! I don't want to kill my cat, but she needs some relief! How do I know whats the truth?

I have a cat that is almost 18 years old. He has always been a scar that hides from everyone. He has been hanging out with us and around the dogs and is really stuffy. He has a lot of snot in his nose, it is hard for him to breathe, he gags and coughs and has runny eyes. My husband just thinks he is old with allergies but I'm concerned. I dissolve his food in water and crush it up and he drinks and eats fine. Not sure what to do? Can I give him something for the allergies?
