Avatar f tn Start by getting an air purifier. I got one at walmart for 89$ i think it was and i can move in around from room to room since its small enough but it really helps! If u have carpet get a carpet cleaner and clean it twice or three times even! You got to train ur dog not to pee inside, definately not good for the baby but you can go to canadian tire (damn not sure what it would be in the states lol a hardware store) and get the professional floor cleaner and clean ur dog pee with that.
Avatar m tn Hello all, I wanted to ask for some advice. I am considering purchasing an air purifier but I have not found any information that shows they really work for allergies and asthma. I would love to hear from you on your own experiences, and any recommendations you can give to a newbie. I have been reading up on this topic and honestly I am extremely confused. Please help and maybe we can all learn together.
Avatar n tn As a serious allergy sufferer myself, I don't think you can get relief from these allergies until the air is cleared. I hardly think that an air purifier will do much good, if your husband won't give up smoking, because those toxins will always be in the air, even if he smokes outside. Latest research on mercola.com shows that the best and safest way to quit is cold turkey. The articles he wrote about this are really very interesting and enlightening.
Avatar n tn I'm a 20 y/o female 140lb.. no history of obesity, smoking, vaping, drugs, drinking, asthma or allergies and I haven't had any recent respiratory illnesses. I do have a history of anxiety and panic attacks. In the past 3 or so weeks I've had problems breathing on and off. A few weeks ago, out of no where, I started feeling like I was suffocating or like I couldn't breathe. It felt like my nose and throat were closing and it was hard to get air in.
Avatar m tn Hi Grabes, Just read your comments. Have you been to an allergist? Are you sure you are allergic to her cat and dog? Has an allergist actually told you that you are allergic to cat and dog dander. I had an allergy test done by an allergist many years ago. The allergist confirmed I have an allergy to cat dander, a very low one though. I have asthma too. This may sound strange , but my husband and I have a cat right now. This is our third cat, they've all been rescue cats.
Avatar n tn Hi, My boyfriend has allergies to my apartment. He said its most likely from mold in the basement or dust around the apartment. Would me getting an air purifier help? I don't know anything about them, is one sufficient for a 4 room apartment? Is there a particular type I should look for or is there something else that would help so he's not miserable everytime he comes over?
Avatar m tn i have a real bad dust allergy and my carpet was neglected for years and i just started cleaning constantly and theres so many airborne particles nothing changes anything just so much dust i think the carpet is ruined..i have an hepa air purifier and a humidifier...
Avatar f tn Make sure to clean and replace your air conditioner and air cleaner filters regularly. Also effective are various types of air-filtering devices, which can be added to the heating and cooling systems in the home. You can take OTC anthistaminics like benadryl or zyrtec. You can also use some nasal decongestants but use them for a few days only.Corticosteroids and bronchodilators can also be used. You can also use saline nasal sprays or steam inhalation at home.
Avatar n tn also an air purifier should help remove pollen/ dust/ WHATEVER, that is causing it, and should be filtered out. if these don't help your symptoms enough, then it may be worth visiting a doctor or chemist for some relief.
Avatar m tn Has anyone thought about buying a type of air purifier for the home? I know it won’t resolve our condition but maybe it can help resolve the allergies of the people we live with. I’ve been looking at reviews on amazon for the rabbit air and I’m really thinking of buying it but It’s really expensive. I wonder if it will be effective for what we have. Any thoughts ?
Avatar m tn Naturopath put me on a diet dermatoligist wanted me to use cream that would thin out my eyelids and yes I have allergies. I truly believe it is allergies. I have purchased an air purifier for our home and just started using it. I have also been cleaning my eyes with baking powder and rubbing coconut oil on them. I got this advice from someone else on this web site. It seems to be helping with the flaring. I have lived in this home for 5 years and never had a problem.
Avatar n tn Its hard enough to keep dust in the air to a minimum, cat hair and cat dander, its even harder. But how do you put your cat out of your apt.? Is there anywhere temporary it could stay until the baby is at least a few months old? If your baby were to develop any kind of allergy, the cat, of course, would be the first suspect.
Avatar m tn She suggested that I buy a standing air filter which I did. The air purifier I purchased is made by Honeywell . I brought it home when I retired and it is in our living room. It helps a lot. I believe it has a heap filter which can easily be removed and cleaned and replaced. Are there other people working with you in this lab in the basement ? Perhaps they are feeling similar symptoms.

Avatar f tn Has anyone with PATM invested in a good quality air purifier (like rabbit air) for their home? I know it won’t cure our condition but maybe it can help purify the air in the home for the people we live with. Thoughts?
Avatar f tn Defintely the right choice to get rid of the cat (coming from someone with two cats and cat allergies), she is too young to have to deal with severe allergies. Do as much prevention with the dust allergies as well and hopefully the severity of the reactions with colds/flu will decrease.
Avatar m tn My daughter is 3 with the exact same story...We got rid of our cat and covered all her bedding with the allergy protectors and bought a air purifier....It helps a lot- not all the way gone- but it helps a lot.
Avatar m tn If they had no choice but to be in that environment I would get a filter for the room. My wife is allergic to our cat, and I got her an air purifier for specialized for pet hair that really helped (http://www.pureairsupply.com/what-best-air-purifier-for-pets/). I would imagine that they also make ones specialized for cigarette smoke too. It would be better though that they not be exposed at all!

Avatar f tn Do Air Purifiers really clean the air enough to make a difference in my health?
Avatar f tn I also use an air purifier in my bedroom, allergy barrier coverings for my mattress and pillows, and wash my bedding in hot water weekly.
Avatar n tn or removing the allergen from her living area to make her feel better. Sometimes a good air purifier is all that it takes, but it depends on her allergies. Also an allergist can prescribe appropriate allergy medications to help her. She may just need something stronger than Claritin. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn We got a big air purifier, and all we have is one indoor cat. My son was pretty snuffly from just the cat's presence in the house.
Avatar m tn t overly concerned. Following the list I gave you has really made a difference. We also have an air purifier in the house now, and I pretty much restrict his play area to upstairs which is hardwood vs. downstairs which is carpeted. He still has the runny nose and therefore cough, but it is way better. Our pediatrician feels he will likely just outgrow it. The mucus can also irritate the stomache and cause vomiting, although we have only had that happen on occasion.
Avatar n tn do you have an air purifier?? The older ones would emit "ozone" and that can cause lots of coughing also it can lead to cancer. We had a dog die from basically lung cancer caused by this machine. We found out about the cause when our friends got an air purifier and their dogs all started coughing within a week of them starting to use it, took it out of the house and all the dogs STOPPED coughing. I wish there was a way to get this info out to everybody.
Avatar n tn I hope its OK to post a question similar to one I posted in "forums" section. I am interested in an expert opinion, Can you please characterize the effectiveness of air cleaners in reducing asthma symptoms? Over the last few years (I am 54) my asthma symptoms have lessened, but I still sometimes wake up wheezing at night. This only happens in winter.
Avatar f tn We also just bought an air purifier to get pet dander and allergens out of the air for him.so once we rehome her I will have to clean literally everything in our home 3 times a week for six months because that's how long it will take to get pet dander out..
