I am on Metoprolol 100 mg/day. I feel good no side effects at all, never had. It was fine from the beginning. Before I was on Coreg . Same, it was fine. I do not think you have any side effects from medications at all. You do have anxiety. You should work on that.There are healthier ways to work on that instead of taking prescription drugs. It can harm you many ways on the long run.
I have taken Toprol xl 25 mg for about 5 years. My doctor switched me to metoprolol several months ago. When I filled my prescription this time, it was from a different mfg and I think I may be having problems with it as I just don't feel right. Could changing the mfg make a difference? ALSO, my doctor prescribed 50 mg to be cut in half for my prescribed 25 mg dose. Does cutting this tablet in half compromise the time release?
EKG taken by cardiologist as precation was normal. Cardiologist is having me drop Cardizem LA (180 mg) for Carvedilol (6.25mg 2x per day). Any reason to think this change could trigger arythmia or something else really kooky? I am told this is an excellent medication and typically very well tolerated. I tried Toprol XL before for several months. Did not tolerate it well, mainly due to severe nightmares. Once removed from the Toprol, nightmares stopped.

There are a few beta blockers with evidence in heart failure -- they are carvedilol, metoprolol XL, and bisoprolol (not really used in the US). Atenolol does not have any data to support its use in heart failure, so I would recommend a different agent (one of the above). Which one to choose depends on your blood pressure and ability to take twice daily dosing vs once daily.
Chlorthalidone is a perfectly fine diuretic, if you have blood pressure room to tolerate it.

When I made that same switch a few years ago, I went from 100mg Toprol XL once a day to 100mg metoprolol succinate once a day. Neither my doctor nor my pharmacist ever suggested that I would need to split the dose. My understanding is that metoprolol succinate is an extended release formuation that substitutes directly for Toprol XL. But ask your doc or a pharmacist to make sure. I'm off of the drug entirely now, so I don't worry with it anymore.
I took Toprol xl for a time - 25 mg. I could not take a pill all at once, because my bp would drop too low. The nurse finally told me to break the pill in half and take half in the morning and half at night. That worked a little better. I ended up eventually on Atenolol which I have taken for 6 years. I take it in divided doses, as my bp or hr goes up or down. If my hr and bp are too low, I delay a dose. But I never just skip it.
Metoprolol caused me hair loss....Bystolic has slowed it down somewhat....

Im already on 100 mg 1 time a day of extended release Metoprolol.....and I think, just to appease me, because ive had a couple really really bad days of almost nonstop palps..he said to increase my Metoprolol to 1 100mg tablet in the morning...and 1 100mg tablet at night. Anyone EVER been on such a huge dose before??? I trust him...but yet....Im scared to take that much!!!

I understand Metoprolol SR and Toprol XL are equivalent, the Metoprolol being the generic, and much lower in cost. I've taken both, albeit it has been at least 6 years since I last used the brand-name Toprol XL.
I guess I'm 'lucky" as far as HR goes. If I take 100 mg twice a day of Metoprolol my rest HR goes into the 70s at rest. I have been trying lower dose to see if that reduces the dream problem I have.
She had me just stop propranolol and start metoprolol, been experiencing shakiness, occassional pvcs, headache, nausea, pulse still 45 - low 60s at rest and with exertion 70-90. I have recently been prescribed Amlodipine-Benaz 5/10 MG capsules for treatment of hypertension. However, my resting pulse rate has consistently been in the 90's and increasing into the 100's at time, so I have been prescribed Carvedilol to help control the heart rate. My question is, doesn't Carvedilol control hypertension as well...Why should I be taking carvedilol in addition to amliodipine?
Recently had an echocardiogram and was told me Ejection Fraction was a bit low 50 percent. I have a history of high blood pressure and fast heart rate. Just before the test, I took 150 mg of Metoprolol. I usually take this twice a day. I've heard that this medicine can reduce the heart's pumping action and I'm wondering if this could have had an effect on my test results?
i did one echo that was normal, i only had tachycardia. Doc gave me metoprolol. I was taking metoprolol for 12 days and suddenly felt something like pvcs. When i did ecg back in the hospital i saw several pvcs. 2 years ago i did a holter monitor there i got 208 pvcs. these 2 years i felt totally fine but after taking metoprolol i got pvcs and i have it especially at night. what should i do? can anyone help?
I take metoprolol tartrate 25 mg 2X per day but am thinking of asking for toprol XL just for ease of one pill per day; its easy to forget to take the second pill when you go a long time without symptoms:) My feeling is first have a doc determine that things are benign, then treat the symptom. If it goes away, stop worrying about what caused them in the first place and enjoy your new found quality of life.
I'm a 31 year old male with high blood pressure, anxiety, and a few recorded PVCs. I recently had a stress test with some ST depressions, which the cardiologists suspected to be a false positive. Nonetheless, to be on the safe side I was given a nuclear stress test - everything turned out just fine, my cardiologist said my heart is perfectly normal. The only problem was the high heart rate - when I went to get on the treadmill my heart rate jumped from 90 bpm to 145 bpm.
I take Metoprolol for a thick heart muscel & pvc, which it doesn't help much with the pvc's, Diltiazem was just added 120mg once a day. My doctor seemed somewhat reluctant to add the Diltiazem but said lets try it. My Blood pressure has been around 155/95. His reluctance just seems to scare me. Should I try it or should I not? The Toprol XL (Metoprolol Succinate) tablet should not be cut in half. Doing so defeats it's time release properties. If you want to mess with dosages (and I don't think you should), the generic Metoprolol Tartrate (referred to as just Metoprolol) can be cut in half without a problem. I take an odd, 75mg. Per day; 50mg at dinner, and 25mg (half a pill) upon rising. Think of your dose level as a "starting dose level".
New cardio. was on atenolol 25 mg 2x daily for aortic valve disorder, but had issues of impotence and very very low heart rate, as well as numerous palpitations. Cardio swithced me to metoprolol xl 25mg 1x daily. my heart rate has gone from the high 50's to the high 80's from yesterday to today. Is this normal? I believed that the xl on the metoprolol was extended release, and that the dosage should do the same thing as far as hr and bp. by has gone from 116/68 to 138/89.
I was on Toprol XL for a number of years, but only 25mg. I hated the side effects such as shortness of breath and nightsweats, but never depressions. Then I went to see a cardiologist and he took me off the beta blocker and prescribed a calcium channel blocker - 5mg.
