Avatar m tn Fat is a powerful nutrient because it has more than double the amount of calories per gram, as compared to carbohydrates and protein. Polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats are typically not stored as body fat and can be used by the body for energy. Monounsaturated fats include olive oil, egg yolks, avocados and nuts and seeds. Polyunsaturated fats are your omega-3, 6 and 9 fats, which are essential for overall health and wellness.
Avatar f tn 45 to 65 percent of your daily cal. intake should be from carbohydrates. If following a 1,500-calorie diet then 675 to 975 of those calories should be from carbs 168 to 240 grams of carbohydrate. On a 2,000-calorie diet, it would be between 900 and 1,300 calories or 225 to 325 grams of carbohydrate. When choosing carbs, the focus should be on healthy carb. sources, like fruits and vegetables, along with healthier complex carbs like whole grains. Healthy carbs.
Avatar f tn Some carbohydrates start to break down in our mouth with our saliva, then the stomach starts protein break-down. The food makes it way to the small intestines where fats, and protein break down are completed, and all, including carbohydrates, are absorbed into our bodies. Whatever is not broken down, passes into the large intestine and excreted.
Avatar f tn The premixed ones I have tried all seem to be around 220-350 calories, have a balance of protein, fats, and carbohydrates, and might be a good place to start if you are trying to gain weight. I hope this helps - I'm not an expert in how to gain weight in a healthy way, but as someone who is quite active I'm not going to tell you to move less and eat more. I guess my answer is "keep moving and eat more".
Avatar f tn If you engage in a high protein diet, your body will use stored body fat for energy as it will not have carbohydrates. Protein also enables you to stay fuller for longer. If you are going to eat carbohydrates, eat them separately as a snack, and avoid having them after 4pm. Avatar f tn BMR calculators are far from accurate, use it only as a guideline to start with. If I ate as many calories as my "suggested BMR calculation" says, I'd be as big as a house in less than a year. Everyone is different and not everyone burns calories the same. I'm 39 years old 175 pounds and pretty lean at 5'10“. I use to weigh over 280 pounds and got down to 163 before I put back on some solid lean muscle. 1800 calories sure sounds high to me.

Avatar m tn and a high-protein, high-fat, Atkins-style diet. Each participant ate the same number of calories on each diet, yet at the end of the study, they found that people burned the most calories at rest while on the Atkins diet. Avatar n tn Hey everybody... I currently eat a diet comprised of 30-35% protein, 45-50% carbs, and less than 20% fats. All toll, I consumer 2,800 calories a day to maintain my current weight of 108 lbs. at 5'4" (I've always been on the thin side, I'm a competitive Irish Dancer and Distance Runner). 1319721 tn?1276040968 Where can I get more complex carbs? And where can I get protein that doesn't involve a lot of calories and fat? I know that meat have a lot of protein but it also consist of a lot of calories and fat. Hmmm...maybe I should go for either soy product or whey protein drink?
Avatar m tn A healthy diet should consist of adequate amounts of calories with carbohydrates, proteins, fat and plenty of fruits and vegetables to supply vitamins and minerals. Cutting down on calories to less than adequate is not considered healthy. Also when aiming at losing weight the protein intake may be slightly increased and the carbohydrate intake slightly lowered. The calorie requirement should also be adjusted for ones physical activities as well.
Avatar f tn Safe weight loss is considered to be 1-2 pounds/week. If you're losing a pound/day, most likely it will only be fluid or it will be a regimen that's actually harmful to the body and can't maintained over the long term. A grown woman should never consume less than 1200 calories/day - anything less is basically, a starvation diet. Trying to burn 3500 calories in a day is excessive.
