For snack time you do not want to exceed over 30 grams of carbohydrates. Stay away from cereal, milk, and fruit in the morning. Eat lots of veggies and proteins. No juice, pop, sugary coffees, etc...

Learn, understand, and apply why simple carbs should be avoided and why complex carbs should be increased in ones diet. Being prediabetic means you have a very good chance of reversing yourself back to normal. To do this one MUST adhere to lifestyle changes; proper nutrition, maintain proper body weight, and perform daily 30 minute physical exercise. Ignore one defeats the others.

Avatar m tn I have a bowl of porridge every morning. I put 4 dessert spoons (slightly rounded) in a bowl and add 1 teacup of water. A few grains of salt. Put in microwave at medium setting for 2 minutes, remove, stir and microwave for one more minute. If the microwave power is too high, it may boil over. Next time adjust quantities, time and power to get a better result. Oats are supposed to be good because they are absorbed slowly, but speak to your dietician.

I tightened that down even more and try for less than 30 per meal and only eat breakfast and dinner. No snacks; although you can have them if they are 10 or less grams. I have lost 30 pounds since starting in June and my fasting blood sugars went from over 190 to being 129 or less. Most mornings, I get a reading of 115-118.

However not all carbohydrates increase BG as quickly as others. I would suggest you google "glycemic index". It is a measure of how fast the impact is from carbohydrates. There are on line lists of foods with their glycemic index. There is only so much you can do with diet however. Some doctors are willing to prescribe metformin for prediabetes.
