Avatar n tn I am not quite sure what your question is about concerning the alcohol. Are you asking which to drink first, or asking what the effects might be? The answer is that alcohol lowers the liver's ability to release emergency sugars that all people store in their livers in case they haven't eaten in a long time and glucose levels drop (which can happen to non-diabetics as well as to diabetics, but which can be life-threatening to the type 1 diabetic).
Avatar f tn "Local GP not much help, anyone got any suggestions?" I would definitely fire the GP and find an Endocrinologist, a diabetes specialist, for complete testing. Low glucose [blood sugar] can be dangerous and life threatening. Too low a person will go into diabetic coma. Some recover, some don't. As far has his weight, beer can raise glucose levels as does simple carbohydrates. The calories in beer will make one fat, get a "beer belly".

649848 tn?1534633700 Generally, beer has more calories than wine, but the calorie difference in the two primarily comes from the leftover carbohydrates in beer, as the sugar content for most wines is fairly low. Low-calorie beers have an additional enzyme added during the brewing or fermentation process, and it breaks down all of the starch molecules into simple sugars so there are no remaining carbohydrates.
Avatar m tn The things you listed (leaf lettuce, high fiber cereal, fruit) are all carbohydrates, meaning they all end up in the blood in exactly the same form: glucose. To your pancreas, insulin, or your blood, it really doesn't matter wether you ate a potato, cereals, a cake, pasta, 5 spoons of sugar, 10 apples, spinach, carrots, or drank beer. The only difference is the taste on your tongue, and in the stomach. After that they all get converted to same substance - blood glucose.

Avatar n tn re low -- The liver will cause glycogen stores to be converted to glucose in an attempt to raise our blood sugar. When we have alcohol in our systems, however, our liver will first deal with that "toxin" ... since the liver "sees" alochol as a poison to get processed out. As long as our liver is processing alcohol, it will NOT dump the glucose we might need -- no matter how low we go. That's the big added risk to drinking.
Avatar f tn I don't think it should be a problem if you have 1 once in a while,I'd be more concern about the sugar levels in the beer, even non alcohol beers have high levels of sugar, carefully check the labels for ingredient content....
Avatar n tn Sugars listed next to carbohydrates are in grams. Every 7 grams listed equals one heaping Tablespoon of refined sugar. Sports drinks can contain upwards of 7 Tablespoons of sugar, or more, per 12oz. Deadly. Exercise 30 minutes daily and maintain proper body weight are just as important as proper nutrition. Good luck.
Avatar n tn At the physical my doctor told me that they notice ketones in my urine so they decided to send me to the hospital to get bloodwork done. The nurse checked my bloodsugar and it turned out I was at 950. Yes I know that is rediculous, the nurses weren't sure how I was still conscious let alone feeling well enough to be physically active. I spent the next 2 days in the hospital, one of those days was my 16th birthday ironically enough haha. 1.

Avatar m tn Yes. Now, what do you mean by natural sugar? And even white flour and potatoes can cause problems for a diabetic, since they convert to sugar very quickly in the body. And sugar is what your pancreas has trouble with when you're diabetic. And type 1 or type 2? They are quite different.
Avatar m tn Diabetes is the bodies in-ability to process carbohydrates properly resulting in high blood sugar (BG). ALL carbohydrates not just sugar. Your body turns all carbohydrates into BG . I dont know what your "diet" is that you follow. BUT it has more carbohydrates than your body can process. Even the ADA's diet has too many carbs for you OR/AND you need drugs to help your body to process the carbs.
