Avatar f tn I am at the end of my tether and don't know what to do, need some helpful advice. I am a single mum to my 5 year old daughter. For the last 4 or 5 months her eating habits have been terrible. She doesn't eat bread, potatoes, pasta or rice...therefore she is getting no carbs...she doesn't seem to be lacking in energy but I'm extremely worried about her. I've tried explaining to her that we need food t give us energy and that she needs to eat else she'll get poorly.

Avatar m tn He should be staying away from all carbohydrates including whole wheat bread and his diet should be fat and protein. You're hypoglycemic because of the drugs. If he's not yet on any drugs, and completely cuts out carbs, his glucose level would stabilize back to normal. It's a tough diet tho. I managed for 2 days only. Couldn't stand the constant hunger. But for him, unfortunately, it's either that or drugs/insulin for the rest of his life.

You will still end up eating carbohydrates trough vegetables and fruit, but not trough bread, pasta etc. But those that are in the fruit and vegetables are complex carbohydrates, which are good. Try having 5 small meals per day, set apart 2.5hours / 3hours. Also, whenever you feel like you want a snack, eat some fruit instead of junk food.

Avatar f tn To find what works for you, get a BG meter, keep a log of time - what you eat - BG test before you eat, 1 hour after you eat, 2 hours after you eat. If BG is over 140 eat less carbs or take more drugs.
