Also, make sure you get the whole wheat/whole grain version of every carbohydrate you get from the store.

Avatar f tn Here are some tips I posted on another thread some time ago.... Changing lifestyle habits can go a long way in controlling type 2 diabetes. Restrict & avoid refined sugars, practice and adhere to weight control, do some sort of exercise daily, practice stress management, and get adequate sleep. These are all important in managing this illness, the most important, along with proper nutrition, is physical activity. Walking, not strolling, helps to lower blood sugar levels.
Avatar f tn t determine your carbs by the number of calories. You have to determine how many carbs are in each serving of the individual foods you eat, as listed on the package/container. For instance a serving of bread might have 12 grams of carbs listed on the package. For help with the bar code issue, try asking your question in the Improve MedHelp Suggestions forum. The mods there should be able to help you. You can access that forum via the following link: http://www.medhelp.

1666434 tn?1325262350 I bought ketone strips to test my ketone levels in between doctors visits. It's pretty interesting seeing the levels be affected by not eating soon enough. For the most part I have tested normal, but the one day where i held off eating till I got home from the grocery store, my levels were small 15mg. I had no idea on this "Every 7 grams of sugar listed under carbohydrates equals one HEAPING Tablespoon of refined sugar." puts it into major perspective if you have a soda!
Avatar n tn Hello ozark. thanks so much for coming to this forum in search of answers for you. While I may be able to shed some light on the whole food thing for you, this forum focuses on type 1 diabetes and not type 2. One of the things you stated is that your mother had stopped all sugars and was eating three meals a day consisting of wheat breads, salads, veggies and fruit and some sugar free cookies. Avatar f tn In addition to providing calories, carbohydrates provide your body with energy. Not all carbohydrates are beneficial, and you should limit your sugar intake. Limit added sugars to between 6 and 10 percent of your total calorie intake. All this being said try the following if your doctor says it's OK! Avatar f tn , chiropractic orthopedist with the USMS Sports Medicine Committee. Carbohydrates are the main source of glucose in the body, and carbohydrate drinks are designed to rapidly replenish glucose and increase the body's insulin concentration. Another advantage of drinking a carbohydrate drink post workout is it also replenishes fluid lost during exercise. Fluids are easier to ingest after a vigorous workout than solid food and can be easily carried in a gym bag.
10221785 tn?1410990458 3 small meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and 3 snacks in between (one of those being a bed time snack) I started looking at the sugar content too but the dietician told me what matter is the total carbohydrates!!! For snack time you do not want to exceed over 30 grams of carbohydrates. Stay away from cereal, milk, and fruit in the morning. Eat lots of veggies and proteins. No juice, pop, sugary coffees, etc...
Avatar n tn It is in this case simply a matter of going to the number 2 source for energy (fat) if the number 1 source (carbhydrates) is not available. In this case, no harm is done as long as the person actualy. Also, I have read that athletes can have keytones in the urine after extended periods of exercise.

Avatar n tn s pancreas does not make enough insulin to covert carbohydrates that are eaten into energy. Without insulin, these sugars build up in the bloodstream and the person becomes ill. In Hypoglycemia, the pancreas makes too MUCH insulin at times, and this overdose of insulin, if you will, causes the symptoms you describe. You will find that eating something that has some carbohydrates in it will make you feel better quicker than something that is low in carbohydrates when you feel this way.
Avatar f tn You need fat and carbohydrates, which are the main source of energy for your system. You need sugars and fat meats in your diet.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure I understand what kind of help you want. Maybe someone else does...? I can only try and explain the situation, which you maybe already understand. So, if you say he's type 1, that means that his immune system has destroyed part of pancreas that produces insulin. Rest of pancreas is still intact. This probably happened because his immune system identified the insulin as an enemy and destroyed the source of it. Why it suddenly sees it as an enemy is still a mystery.
Avatar m tn This diet will be very low in carbohydrates, which are replaced with healthy unprocessed fats, and with adequate protein.
