I personally would advise to just be more selective with carbohydrates choosing those that are complex and slower to digest. This will result in a more sustained level of energy and prolong satiety .
256553 tn?1258883918 Thank-you for posting your question as I think many people misunderstand the low carbohydrate dieting. First off, Carbohydrates are our immediate energy and so without it you will probably feel like you are constantly "hitting the wall" and leaving your body in fatigue, dehydration (which gives the illusion of weight loss), energy loss, and excessive protein breakdown with a buildup of ketones in the body. Protein is NOT used for energy it is the building blocks of the body ie.
Avatar m tn All carbohydrates are broken down to glucose to produce the energy. But there are two forms of carbohydrates that diabetics need to understand. The good is complex carbs, what you should eat. Complex carbohydrate foods are basically those in wholegrain form such as wholegrain breads, oats, muesli and brown rice. Complex carbs are broken down into glucose more slowly than simple carbohydrates and thus provide a gradual steady stream of energy throughout the day.

Avatar f tn If you eat a meal of steak, gravy and chips (not the best choice) the carbohydrates from the meal will be digested first and used for energy, the rest will be stored. The human body only uses what it needs at one time, and stores the rest. If you engage in a high protein diet, your body will use stored body fat for energy as it will not have carbohydrates. Protein also enables you to stay fuller for longer.
Female Most protein bars are meant for people who are already fit and are looking to gain muscle. For someone who is trying to lose weight and already is somewhat overweight, this will translate into fat. Try meal replacement bars instead. Those are often anywhere from 100 to 200 calories and are tastier and just as filling. Watch the sugar on anything, though. These bars all contain a high amount of sugar which can burn out energy levels, feed cravings, and cause fat gain.
Avatar f tn Ironically, being sedentry and lazy actually makes you feel lethargic while working out gives you more energy, so sometimes all you have to do is force yourself to work out when you feel tired and it will wake you up, give you a great boost of feel good endorphins and you'll feel energized. When working out doesn't make you feel more energized, take it as a cue from your body that something is up (your body might be fighting a cold or infection) and get some rest instead.
Avatar f tn She is considered normal for her age. Carbohydrates are found in dairy foods (milk, yogurt, and cheese), fruits, and vegetables. There is sugar (lactose) in dairy foods along with protein which our bodies breaks down to glucose to use. I realize it is not the ‘traditional’ food sources of carbohydrates, however, if she is consuming these foods daily, then she is getting carbohydrates. If you are very concerned, suggest increase the intake of the above foods.
Avatar f tn If you buy the brown rice or wholegrain rice ones, they are a lot less dense then bread but will give you some carbohydrates for energy and they are very light. If you chop up some lettuce or tomato before you go and prepare it, they'll be really quick to eat :) Some wholegrain bars are ok too... but you have to be careful and read the labels because some of them aren't that healthy.

Avatar f tn When you feel too tired to hop on the treadmill for a half hour or to take an hour-long aerobics class after work, opt for just 15 minutes. You may find that when the 15 minutes are up, you actually have the energy to finish your workout strong. If you don't, you at least got a shortened version of your workout into your schedule and you can try a full workout the next day instead. If it works for your schedule, exercising in the morning has the advantage.
