Avatar n tn culture of the virus, direct fluorescent antibody (DFA) studies to detect virus, skin biopsy, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to test for presence of viral DNA. One thing more that I would like to add is most blood tests are that for antibodies called IgM which are short term antibodies that a person can show during or around the outbreak of herpes. Then these IgM antibodies disappear. Then they are replaced by long term antibodies, or IgG.
Avatar m tn Got tested for herpes last week, stuck me in the vein and drew blood, received an email this morning saying no evidence of herpes does that mean I am good?
Avatar m tn Hello! I have a question I'm hoping someone can shed some light on. First, I've been doing a little research on hiv and how it infects cells. I know that the gp120 binds to receptors on the host cell and that gp41 fuses the cell and viral membranes together. But I keep coming back to the question, what part of the particle is the actual HIV virus? I know it's not the glycoproteins but is it the RNA that's held in the capsid within the viral membrane?
Avatar f tn Although a little under 3 years into this officially I still feel relatively new to the MS world compared to many of the others on this forum. I recently took a poll asking what type of MS I had. I expected it to show the four typical types of MS, RRMS, PPMS, SPMS and PRMS, instead it showed this: What type of multiple sclerosis do you have?
Avatar m tn t know very much about the molecular structure. I find it a bit hard to understand, but I get pieces of it. This one seemed more concise then the the last one I sent you. - Dave http://www.natap.org/2001/jun/MoleBio.
Avatar m tn SAG has been found to specifically inhibit HIV-1 infectivity and to bind to virus through the envelope protein gp120. Although SAG binds to gp120 of the virus, the exact nature of this binding has not been characterized. Using surface plasmon resonance technology, we have found that SAG interacts with recombinant envelopes derived from diverse HIV-1 isolates with KD values ranging from 10-7 to 10-10 M, comparable to gp120-sCD4 binding. Furthermore, SAG binding to gp120 is Ca2+ dependent.
Avatar m tn 25 The test HSV 2 Glycoprotein G Ab, IgG has been reflexed as a confirmation of the positive result obtained for Herpes I and II, IgG Chlamydia pneumoniae IgG 1:64 H So basically what I'm asking is did I get a type specific test or not. Could this be a combo IgG test that is detecting my HSV-1 that I've assumed I've had? Also is there a chance I still could have Chlamydia?
Avatar f tn My doctor informed of the Type 2 virus. I received the test results in the mail today and it looks like I am positive for Type 1 as well. I have never had symptoms of either. I will post the numbers of each test. Can someone please tell me if I have both Types, or just HSV 2. I am so confused. Test #1: Herpes I and II, IgG w/ Reflex 42.2 H HSV 2 Glycoprotein G Ab 7.28 H Test #2: Herpes I and II, lgG w/ Reflex 44.4 H HSV 2 Glycoprotein G Ab 6.
Avatar m tn we may see some surprises along the way.
Avatar m tn He said I had 1 of 2 options – I could either come back in about 2-3 weeks to get another blood test to see if the equivocal result comes back any different, or he could send in a request to the lab to perform a further test on the blood they already had (some type of glycoprotein test or something). I told him to go forward with the glycoprotein test, and I also made an appointment to get my blood drawn again in a few weeks.
Avatar m tn so during an break is igm result always positive?
Avatar f tn Hsv1 glycoprotein g ab 8.64. Under that is..iv= 1.10 p. Under that is...hsv2 glycoprotein g ab <0.10. Then it shows...hsv 1/2 combined ab,igm. 1.28. Under that is...=1.10p. This was blood test done on 9/22/2014. I was told I have genital hsv1. I was looking over this and I'm curious to what this means exactly. Do I have hsv2 as well?
163305 tn?1333668571 Newswise — Chemists at the University of California, San Diego have produced the first high resolution structure of a molecule that when attached to the genetic material of the hepatitis C virus prevents it from reproducing. Hepatitis C is a chronic infectious disease that affects some 170 million people worldwide and causes chronic liver disease and liver cancer. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, hepatitis C now kills more Americans each year than HIV.
Avatar m tn Please remember that unless you know otherwise, the chances are that she does not have HSV )for instance, only 40% of women with more than 50 lifetime sex partners have HSV-2) and even if she did have HSV, the risk of infection from a single exposure in the absence of lesions is only one infection per more than a thousand exposures.
Avatar f tn TBG gene defects - Partial deficiency (X linked) and complete deficiency (X linked) Other genetic defects - Carbohydrate-deficient glycoprotein syndrome type 1 (CDG1), which is autosomal recessive Acquired causes of TBG deficiency include the following: Hyperthyroidism Nephrotic syndrome[2] Chronic renal failure Chronic liver disease Severe systemic illness (but not in human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome [HIV/AIDS] or acute intermittent porphyria)[3] Malnutrition
Avatar f tn hi doc, I have been tested for hsv1 & hsv 2 in the begining of 2011 and my results were positive. I instantly had them to retest me after i recieved my results. while i was waiting for those results to come back i went to another clinic and got tested for the same thing. my results from the first clinic came back negative this time and also negative from the other clinic. At this point i was at peace until winter of 2011 they performed a pepsmere and culture.
Avatar m tn romark has started development of thiazolides also for Herpes simplex virus and Respiratory syncitial virus besides hcv, hbv, flu viruses. they are probably improving the chemical structure as an antiviral instead antibacteria/antiparassites/antiviral as normal alinia, to get to the higher more potent doses without sides nitazoxanide was also found active on in vitro cancer cell growth in some part of the stomach, don t remember if colon, Helicobacter pylori, tuberculosis.
Avatar m tn 5-10 % of infections may occur with glycoprotein- G- deficient virus. Detection of antibody presence in these cases may only be possible using a screening test". I am not trying to over-analyze it doctor but that is what it says in the results. so what test will confirm for sure since it looks like there is a 5-10% chance it is a false -ve?? the POC test?
Avatar f tn My husband is freaking out about it to and as the nurse in the family I need to calm him down LOL... Its not transmitted by touching what another person touched, someone with Ebola could sneeze near you and you still wouldn't get it. The virus is most concentrated in blood, vomit, and stool so unless you are handling the excrement of the infected person the chances of you contracting it are slim to none.
Avatar m tn My symptoms also include depression, sleeplessness, and being exhausted, even while I stick to a strict diet of eating no carbs. Symptoms of sever diarrhea have been resolved by taking digestive enzymes. Recently I have had relief from my eye allergies for about 9 months by taking large does of digestive enzymes, but the effects have since worn off. History: I have been tested for parasites many time and results were always negative. Tested for celiac disease, negative.
