Avatar m tn So my question is, what is the relationship betweeen having a stroke and athletic endurance? At this point I don't expect to run faster than before, but I wouldn't mind increasing my long run to maybe 5-7 miles. Please keep in mind that this is important to me as my goal has been to get back to what I was doing before, but maybe not as well.

The American College of Sports Medicine recommends carbohydrates within the first 30 minutes of stopping exercise to optimize the update of glucose into muscles. Since whole foods provide hundreds of bioactive compounds, such as antioxidants that may provide additional benefits for enhancing your recovery, focus on whole foods first and supplements second. Getting fluids back into your body is number 1.

798555 tn?1292787551 In my first post I mentioned I have decent endurance, I should have clarified that as Cardio endurance, not muscle endurance. But if my frees drop, my cardio goes south real fast, and cant get my breath - I have read posts on this quite a few times.
Avatar f tn I have been formally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and possible Carbohydrate Intolerance. My issue is when I eat a load of carbs, it hits up to 3 days later and I can't hardly get out of bed and am weak most of the day. Everything I read about Carb Intolerance says that fatigue usually hits within the first few hours. Has anyone else experienced this? Carb crash, a day or days after the carbs are eaten?
Avatar n tn Yes it can be a slow go at first. Drink lots of water and watch what you eat. Lower the salt intake and watch your carbohydrate intake as well. Make goals like 30 minutes a time for the first 2 weeksn and increast to 45 minutes the next 2 or 3. Anyway if you gradually get your body moving I have found it does not protest as much.
Avatar n tn Drink two to three Cups of water for each pound lost during exercise. How Much Water to Drink During Endurance Exercise If you are exercising at a moderate to high intensity for more than 90 minutes, you will want to consume more than plain water. Avatar m tn 1 carbohydrate-to-protein ratio. Load up on carbs and protein the night before your long bike ride! Eating plenty of carbs will give your muscles plenty of glycogen, a type of stored carbohydrate that turns into glucose to help sustain energy and endurance. Whole-wheat bread and pasta; other whole grains, such as quinoa or oatmeal; and fruits and vegetables are all nutritious sources of carbs. Include any of these in your dinner the night before a bike ride, as well as your morning breakfast.
Avatar m tn Due to stomach problems, I have decided to try a Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Has anyone experienced relief on this diet? So basically, this is what I got from it- fresh vegtables, fresh fruits, lean meats, most nuts, NO LACTOSE, NO SUGAR (except in fruits and honey), and NO STARCHES. Is this about right? Also, what is the policy on yogurt and coconut milk?
Avatar n tn Stamina and endurance are different. Endurance allows you to exercise longer. Good stamina levels usually means better circulation, energy levels and overall health. Some people are naturally better equipped to handle endurance exercise. To increase your stamina and endurance, you need to enlarge your lung capacity, build the muscles around your heart and strengthen the muscles used in endurance activities. The key is gradual increases in your daily physical activity.

Avatar f tn When used in larger amounts, as in cooking and baking, these calories and carbohydrate should be accounted for by carbohydrate counting or by using starch/bread exchanges. As an example, one half cup of SPLENDA® Granulated contributes 12 grams of carbohydrates and 11 to 20 grams are counted as one starch exchange. In SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener Packets, sucralose is combined with maltodextrin and dextrose. These ingredients contribute 1 gram of carbohydrate and four calories per packet.
