Avatar m tn Due to stomach problems, I have decided to try a Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Has anyone experienced relief on this diet? So basically, this is what I got from it- fresh vegtables, fresh fruits, lean meats, most nuts, NO LACTOSE, NO SUGAR (except in fruits and honey), and NO STARCHES. Is this about right? Also, what is the policy on yogurt and coconut milk?
Avatar n tn I think you're making a common mistake in thinking about food, which is that protein is good and carbs are bad. This isn't at all true -- the majority of your diet should be carbs. Vegetables, for example, the core of a healthy diet, are carbs, whereas beef is very high in fat on purpose and hard to digest despite being high in protein and so is never weight-loss food.

Avatar m tn Hi, You can stick to protein-rich foods and eliminate nearly all fat and limit carbohydrate intake to lose weight. When your body finds that it does not have any carbohydrate easily available to it, it will start breaking down the fat to get energy and ends up burning more calories in the process. You should be careful to include carbohydrates in your diet so that you do not end up developing a carbohydrate craving resulting in binge eating.
Avatar f tn Eating low carbohydrate foods and exercising at least 3x a week for at least 30 minutes has been shown to help with weight loss. Giving up sugar also helps.
1211508 tn?1343079605 Are you eating a large amount of carbohydrate foods in these periods or your intake of food is the same during and after the 'sleep spells'? High amounts of carbohydrate foods at one meal tend to get people tried due to the increase/drop of the sugar levels in the blood. Maybe look at periods of stress in your job due to certain timetables, such as an accountant very busy at the beginning of a year due to income tax time, etc. Our bodies get fatigued from high amounts of stress.
Avatar n tn It is not hard to cook proper foods instead of relying on man-made junk foods. There are thousands of recipes on the iNet which one can follow. 232342 tn?1192696720 The main thing that type 2 diabetics need to watch in their diets is the carbohydrate counts for the foods they eat. All foods in the United States have nutritional labels on them, and the carbohydrates in that food are listed in this label with a number. A slice of bread or one serving of rice (about a half cup of cooked rice) both contain about the same amount of carbohydrates, which means that the pancreas has to produce the same amount of insulin in order to metabolize these foods.
Avatar f tn s rated 1 star which is the lowest grade.....Then move over and check out their 4-5-6 star rated foods and go with one of them......The Bacon type snacks are full of toxins, too. Yes, you can give snacks but they need to have No By-products, No Dyes, No Glutens, etc. How bout baby carrots or sliced apples till you finds healthier treats.... The steak and chicken extras are fine as long as they have NO seasonings and are NOT fried........
7628588 tn?1392763151 Yes, adopt a Paleo lifestyle. Humans were not designed to run on the carbohydrates we typically consume daily. They were seasonal treats found during the warm months of the year, honey, berries, and fruit. Our bodies have not evolved sufficiently to run on carbohydrates. Rampant Type II diabetes is proof of that. So, do you really want to lose weight, and lower your blood glucose level? No "white stuff".
Avatar n tn Instead eat whole grains, vegies, fish, poultry and lean meats. Avoid high carbohydrate foods as these turn quickly into sugar after eating. Read all nutrition labels carefully. Sugars listed under carbohydrates are presented in grams. Every 7 grams equals a heaping Tablespoon of sugar. 2. Maintain normal body. If overweight lose the excess fat. 3. Exercise 30-60 minutes daily. Walking is a good way to lower blood sugars.
Avatar n tn Is it with certain foods, such as high carbohydrates foods or any type of food that she gets tired?
Avatar f tn As diabetes is a disease of altered carbohydrate metabolism, then the management involves greatly limiting carbohydrate intake. The degree of restriction varies by person (you have to use your blood glucose meter to detect the impact of different foods so you can learn which foods work for you and which do not), however it can go as low as 20 g a day from some, and up to maybe 130g a day for those who are very mild and more easily managed.
Avatar f tn While it is normal to have a rise in blood sugar level after a meal, excessive rise in blood sugar levels could indicate inappropriate dosage/ timing of injecting the insulin or excessive or inappropriate proportion of carbohydrate in diet. You could start by slightly lowering the carbohydrate and increasing the protein portion of diet. If this does not seem to help, I would suggest consulting your treating endocrinologist for adjustment in dosage/ timing of the insulin. Hope this is helpful.
Avatar f tn First thing you should do is to change your diet. Cut carbohydrate rich foods from your diet. Pls look at www.carbohydrateaddicts.com and docsopinion.
