Avatar m tn However, I just noticed in this months issue of runners world some great low fat recipes that are unusually high in carbs. For example, on page 48, they list the breakfast of champions, 1 cup oatmeal topped with 1 Tbsp honey, 2 Tbsp dried cherries, 2 Tbsp walnut haves, 8 oz of plain kefir, and 1 medium banana. This supplies 600 calories and 90G of carbohydrate. No bad for breakfast. (But watch your calories if you aren't burning that many).
Avatar f tn According to Rick Morris from the Running Planet website, the abdominal crunch is a top core exercise for runners. The basic movement trains and strengthens the core and can be performed by runners of any ability level. Focus on proper form, controlled movements and breathing throughout the range of motion for each repetition. Advanced runners can perform variations of the crunch to increase intensity by using a medicine ball or stability ball.

Avatar n tn I think you're making a common mistake in thinking about food, which is that protein is good and carbs are bad. This isn't at all true -- the majority of your diet should be carbs. Vegetables, for example, the core of a healthy diet, are carbs, whereas beef is very high in fat on purpose and hard to digest despite being high in protein and so is never weight-loss food.

Avatar n tn This is logical for the type 2 diabetic, for eating a fairly low-carbohydrate diet would not require the production of as much insulin by the already stressed pancreas. However, if insulin resistance is the main problem for a type 2 diabetic, then lowering the carb count may not really be the solution, and medications to help the insulin-resistance problem still may be needed.
Avatar f tn A healthy diet, moderate exercise and pharmaceutical grade nutritional supplements to help break the cycle of carbohydrate cravings. They recommend 60 to 70 grams of protein a day. For fats, saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, with an emphasis on polyunsaturated, to help you feel satisfied and less likely to overeat. Avoid oxidized or rancid fats, trans-fatty acids and hydrogenated fats. Eat complex carbohydrates, which help to moderate blood sugar swings and provide fiber.
Avatar f tn I’d run for 1 minute, then walk, then run again for 2 minutes, then walk again, and so on and so forth until I was able to run one hour (5 miles) nonstop. I’d set goals for the day. For example, I’d say ‘Today, I will run 5 minutes nonstop at least once in a one hour period, then try to run 3 minutes intermittently within that hour for a total of maybe 15 minutes. I’d get so thirsty at first, but then I guess my body got used to running 5 days a week.
Avatar f tn To all you runners, can you tell me what to serve for dinner to our kids and friends coming up this weekend for a full marathon? The dinner is the night before. And for breakfast? I think the marathon starts at 7:30 AM. I'm also wondering what magic foods I need to eat to stand on the sidelines and watch?
Avatar n tn Before I got pregnant, I jogged 4 times a week for 4-6 miles. I want to stay active as possible during my pregnancy. I am only 4 weeks along and I have been walking/light jogging for about 4 miles 4 times a week. I would like to know what kind of running adjustments you had to make as you progressed in pregnancy. And what your doctors have told you.

For example, during the initial two to three weeks on the diet, the carbohydrate intake may be restricted to less than 60 grams per day, depending on age, health, activity level, and the extent of food sensitivities. Low-carbohydrate foods such as meat, chicken, turkey, shellfish, non-starchy vegetables, and certain nuts are emphasized instead.

A good liquid multivitamin will help to reverse her deficiencies (IntraMAX is he best out there and it's organic.). Olive Leaf Extract*, Colloidal Silver, and Licorice will kill the bad bugs. I hope this helps! God bless!
Avatar m tn Hi, You can stick to protein-rich foods and eliminate nearly all fat and limit carbohydrate intake to lose weight. When your body finds that it does not have any carbohydrate easily available to it, it will start breaking down the fat to get energy and ends up burning more calories in the process. You should be careful to include carbohydrates in your diet so that you do not end up developing a carbohydrate craving resulting in binge eating.
Avatar f tn I received this interesting email from a friend about banana, which happened to be one of my favorite fruits also. I know that banana is good for runners to prevent muscle cramp. When I was in Philippines, I liked to have the banana que once in a while; it is fried with brown sugar. I have even tried eating boiled banana when I was there. According to my Pinoy friend, he told me that it is one good meal for the poor people as they can get it at low price.
2026060 tn?1328918475 I'm 14 and pretty athletic, I run everyday for school Athletics and just recently started having these pains in my lower stomach to the right side. At first I thought it was PMS but I discovered it wasn't. When we're assigned to run we're not allowed to take a break, so It just hurts even more. Sometimes it hurts so bad I can't breath and often fall down. My coach tells me to just run it off, but that's defiantly not the cure.
Avatar f tn Eating low carbohydrate foods and exercising at least 3x a week for at least 30 minutes has been shown to help with weight loss. Giving up sugar also helps.
Avatar n tn Well, I might as well get my 2¢ in here, too... Optimizing thyroid hormone levels, which should be your first and foremost priority, since no diet is going to help you lose weight until your metabolism is normalized. Once that's done, you should opt for a low glycemic diet, which is a diet that centers on foods that increase blood sugars the least. Those foods would include high quality proteins, vegetables, whole grains, etc. Do some research and find a list of low glycemic foods.
1211508 tn?1343079605 Are you eating a large amount of carbohydrate foods in these periods or your intake of food is the same during and after the 'sleep spells'? High amounts of carbohydrate foods at one meal tend to get people tried due to the increase/drop of the sugar levels in the blood. Maybe look at periods of stress in your job due to certain timetables, such as an accountant very busy at the beginning of a year due to income tax time, etc. Our bodies get fatigued from high amounts of stress.
232342 tn?1192696720 The main thing that type 2 diabetics need to watch in their diets is the carbohydrate counts for the foods they eat. All foods in the United States have nutritional labels on them, and the carbohydrates in that food are listed in this label with a number. A slice of bread or one serving of rice (about a half cup of cooked rice) both contain about the same amount of carbohydrates, which means that the pancreas has to produce the same amount of insulin in order to metabolize these foods.
