2065896 tn?1373685384 Yep, prednisone (long-term) can cause diabetes both in humans and dogs. One of our dogs (a Toy Fox Terrier) was on prednisone for about 8 months due to health problems including allergies, he developed diabetes, and now is on insulin and a low-carbohydrate diet. (I think it's more likely in dogs to cause diabetes, I was on prednisone at high doses from 2-14 years old and I have some long-term side effects that do remain but I don't have diabetes.) Have you tried adjusting her diet?

Also, what is the policy on yogurt and coconut milk?
Avatar n tn I think you're making a common mistake in thinking about food, which is that protein is good and carbs are bad. This isn't at all true -- the majority of your diet should be carbs. Vegetables, for example, the core of a healthy diet, are carbs, whereas beef is very high in fat on purpose and hard to digest despite being high in protein and so is never weight-loss food.

Avatar m tn Hi, You can stick to protein-rich foods and eliminate nearly all fat and limit carbohydrate intake to lose weight. When your body finds that it does not have any carbohydrate easily available to it, it will start breaking down the fat to get energy and ends up burning more calories in the process.
