Avatar f tn Eat whole grain foods. Things will be labled with multigrain on the packages. White foods drive your blood sugar up so 2 hours later your starving when your blood sugar crashes. If you eat more fat you will on be satisfied longer. Low or non fat means there's sugar in it for taste. Again...driving your blood sugar up. Learn to manage your blood sugar and the rest is actually easy. Find a book on glycemic index. The lower numbers are what you are aiming for. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Yes you can be bloated without having diarrhea or constipation. Try keeping a food diary and tracking how you feel and the degree of bloating. Distension can often come from foods that aren't being digested properly and you have to try to track down the cause. If you have to, try some exclusion diets. Some typical culprits can be dairy products, high fructose corn syrup, and gluten (wheat, rye, barley, etc). Diets high in carbohydrate can also cause bloating.
Avatar n tn This can happen to people when they have not eaten in a long time or if they eat something that has a lot of quickly digested carbohydrates that cause the pancreas to be stimulated too much. What happens is that your pancreas produces too much insulin, which is the OPPOSITE of being diabetic, whereby the pancreas does not produce enough insulin. A glucose tolerance test is used to test for reactive hypoglycemia, which is when a person becomes hypoglycemic after eating high-sugar foods.
Avatar n tn i take my medication as prescribed and was told to LIMIT sugar and carbohydrate intake.my sugar is usually 65-70 when i first wake up and stays stable thoughout the day (i don't check it if i don't feel sick). lately, for the past few months anyway, if i eat anything sweet at all, ex: sugar in my coffee is the usual culprit, about an hour late my sugar drops to around 40 and i can barely make it to the fridge to get OJ. why is this suddenly happening?
Avatar n tn I am assuming you know his carbohydrate to insulin ratio, meaning for every 10-17 carbohydrates a person eats then one unit of insulin is given. I give a range because every person is a little different in how many units of insulin they give for a certain number of carbohydrates. I usually take 1 unit for every 12 grams of carbs--but that is just my body. Next, knowing the amount of carbohydrates in certain foods will help too.
1751416 tn?1311996126 The Specific Carbohydrate Diet was developed to heal the sensitive guts of autistic children. It is designed to limit foods to those that can be completely and easily digested (and avoiding nausea and diarrhea) You may be surprised by what is allowed (meat) and what is not (fiber). Eating largely unprocessed foods will give your guy lime to heal itself. Also low dose naltrexone (LDN) is a cheap compounded med that is helpful in a large number of digestive problems.
Avatar f tn (On one side some say fruits are better digested alone, on other side they are digested quite fast which may cause spikes in blood sugar)
Avatar m tn Postprandial rises are usually contributed to the foods you eat. Avoid foods made with white flour - breads, crackers - overcooked pasta, white rice, and potatoes as these quickly get digested. The quicker a food is digested the quicker their sugars enter your bloodstream. Doesn't mean you cannot eat these foods just pay careful attention to portion sizes. Also, lowering your carbohydrate intake helps a lot too.
Avatar f tn Yes, look out for what you consume, any carbohydrate rich foods is very fattening, this includes but it not limited to: sugars, chocolate, bread (dark or white), pasta, rice, potatoes, fries, most sauces, carrots, broccoli, most fruits (avocado is ok though), all yogurts and other dairy products that have sugars added. Carb low is: meat all kinds including fish, cheese, vegetables most of them.
Avatar n tn Similarly, starchy foods contain a certain amount of resistant starch (especially oats, bananas and cooked cold potato) that like fructan, is not digested but passes to the large intestine. Once there, bacteria ferment the non digested fibre and use the bi-products to make foods that feed them like short chain fatty acids. The waste products that ensue are hydrogen, carbon dioxide and methane; sometimes the hydrogen is converted to sulphur which is what makes flatus or burps smelly.
Avatar m tn Due to stomach problems, I have decided to try a Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Has anyone experienced relief on this diet? So basically, this is what I got from it- fresh vegtables, fresh fruits, lean meats, most nuts, NO LACTOSE, NO SUGAR (except in fruits and honey), and NO STARCHES. Is this about right? Also, what is the policy on yogurt and coconut milk?
Avatar n tn The symptoms you describe could be reactive hypoglycemia, for in some people, when they eat or drink a food that has high carbohydrate content that is quickly digested such as soda, their bodies react to the sugar onslaught by producing TOO much insulin, which drops their glucose levels too low. Symptoms are headaches, lact of ability to concentrate, sleepiness, sometimes nausea, loss of energy, and sometimes depressed feelings while this is happening.
Avatar f tn Not all carbs are created equal. Women should have a minimum of 35 grams of dietary fiber/day. Fiber is considered to be a "complex" carb, which means it breaks down slowly and isn't really "digested", like simple carbs, such as sugar, processed foods with white flour, rice, etc. Plenty of dietary fiber and water is necessary for good digestion and elimination.
Avatar f tn Your calorie intake should come from foods that are healthy for you. The weight gaining diet should include high protein foods, high carbohydrate foods and healthy fats. Include these in your diet. Example of weight gain diet Breakfast: Banana and milk or banana shake or smoothie, whole-grain toast, fruits, granola, nuts. Eat more fruit and drink less juice. Do not give milk mixed with ghee to your child. It is not healthy.
Avatar m tn If this were me, I think I would go to a GI doctor or Internal Medicine doctor. Admittedly, it could be anxiety but I would want to look at some other causes first such as stomach problems or even heart rhythm problems...Before I did that though, I think I would try an Allergy Avoidance Diet and see if that helps. What are you eating?
Avatar n tn I think you're making a common mistake in thinking about food, which is that protein is good and carbs are bad. This isn't at all true -- the majority of your diet should be carbs. Vegetables, for example, the core of a healthy diet, are carbs, whereas beef is very high in fat on purpose and hard to digest despite being high in protein and so is never weight-loss food.

Avatar f tn Low residue diets are designed to be almost completely digested so that the amount of stool is as low as possible. You can do this in a couple of ways. You can home-cook for him, which is probably the best way to ensure low residue, or you can purchase a prepared dog food that is designed for low residue. However you decide to attack the problem, corn is one thing that you want to avoid in his diet.
Avatar f tn In general, you will have to experiment and see which foods and fibers in diet cause harm and which are easily digested. Drink plenty of fluids and eat frequent small meals.

446335 tn?1223948356 I said high carbs which is incorrect. I should have said good carbs vs bad carbs. Good carbohydrate foods are those that are still in their natural state, or they are still similar to their natural state. They are foods that have not been processed or altered by people or machines.
