Avatar n tn the thing that helped me the most was something called the specific carbohydrate diet, which is quite strict. i was on it for 5 months -- big improvement in digestion. however, i lost too much weight (i'm quite thin) and it was very incovenient for me. if you can commmit yourself to it, i would highly recommend it. also, water fasting has helped me in the past temporarily. i've done it from one day to about 4 days.
Avatar n tn It's not risky, but don't know how it would control diabetes. Type 2 Diabetes is a dietary disease, so it's possible it's beneficial effect on some people's digestion might be in play here, as well as its bitter qualities, but others don't do well on it -- it depends on the acid/alkaline state of a particular person's digestive system. Good for those who need it, maybe not so much if you don't.
Avatar n tn I also wanted to add, I hope they are soaking the corn flakes? Anything made into a saluable solution can cause the food to expand in your horses stomach therefore creating numerous digestion/gastrointestinal issues, such as frequent colic.
Avatar f tn Resistance training, running and any other strenuous exercise deplete glycogen in the muscles. Recovery sports drinks are superior to water because the body needs more than just water after exercise to replenish energy stores. During recovery, the body is busy removing lactic acid and replacing depleted glycogen supply.
1763618 tn?1315807367 Its been going on for a while, he thinks it is water weight gain..or bloatness. I work a 12 hour shift where Im sitting most of that time. Last summer I made the decision to change my life. I walk about 10 miles a week and I've lost about 40 lbs since. I really can't understand how my A1C could be so high! I don't know how else to control my diabetes. I exercise, I watch what I eat and I've lost weight. I was very depressed when he told me of these results.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have an answer that will help her with constipation and digestion? She has to take a ton of laxatives just to go to the bathroom at all. She eats very little and is a vegan.
Avatar m tn Due to stomach problems, I have decided to try a Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Has anyone experienced relief on this diet? So basically, this is what I got from it- fresh vegtables, fresh fruits, lean meats, most nuts, NO LACTOSE, NO SUGAR (except in fruits and honey), and NO STARCHES. Is this about right? Also, what is the policy on yogurt and coconut milk?
Avatar m tn Can we drink more water while eating? Will it affect digestion? Is there any restriction not to drink water 1/2 hour before and after having meals?
Avatar f tn , like simple carbs, such as sugar, processed foods with white flour, rice, etc. Plenty of dietary fiber and water is necessary for good digestion and elimination. Complex carbs (dietary fiber) is that found in whole grains and vegetables and is considered the "good" carbs. Since "Total Carbohydrates" include both sugar and dietary fiber, watch the sugar and "other carbohydrate" content. Eat those foods with the most dietary fiber.
Avatar n tn The fats combined with the carbs delay the digestion time. It is good to know this so you can learn to adjust. I find it enough of a problem that I actually rarely eat pizza. The only way to perfect the control would be to do a blood test in the middle of the night and to then adjust with extra insulin. French fries are the other fat-laden carbohydrate that I notice digests equally slowly.
Avatar f tn I have been formally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and possible Carbohydrate Intolerance. My issue is when I eat a load of carbs, it hits up to 3 days later and I can't hardly get out of bed and am weak most of the day. Everything I read about Carb Intolerance says that fatigue usually hits within the first few hours. Has anyone else experienced this? Carb crash, a day or days after the carbs are eaten?
Avatar f tn Hi there, I am a 31 year old female recently diagnosed with Dissacharidase Deficiency, otherwise known as carbohydrate malabsorption. According to my gastro, a bad viral infection I acquired almost 18 months ago knocked out only my lactase enzymes, but also the enzymes neccessary to break down sugars, most carbs and all starches. I also became seriously sensitive to fructose, the sugar found in fruit.
Avatar m tn in this case, google "special carbohydrate diet". It is a diet which got invented for people with huge bowel problems like H pylori, crohns and IBS. The goal in this diet is to a) kill bacteria by starving them, but not you, b) get some easy digestible nutrients back into you, c) get the inflammation down and d) change the bacterial flora so no bad bugs can survive. Give it a test run for 1 month, and if it is not helping, you can always go back.
Avatar n tn You need to clean out your body. Drink lots of water. Don't use those juice cleanse things no!! Water is the best way to flush out toxins out of your body. When you drink water it flushes out what is not needed. And may help you with your constipation.
Avatar n tn I do not know if my condition is edema, since I am not experiencing water retention any where except for my stomach. I have begun taking sodium chloride to help my body rid itself of unwanted sodium, but I am not certain whether or not sodium is to blame since I watch my salt intake very closely. If any one can help direct me toward what could be causing this problem I would greatly appreciate it.

886699 tn?1270779744 My son gets this at times. I can smell it on his breath when it happens. It's like nail polish remover- acetic acid. I think in my son's case it's due to faulty carbohydrate digestion, due to his hormone imbalances. His doctors have never tried to answer my questions about this, but I found an article that describes ketotic hypoglycemia and metabolic acidosis in children with secondary adrenal insufficiency, growth hormone and ACTH deficiency, and pituitary hypothyroidism.
Avatar f tn With blood sugar this high, you must drink plenty of fluids. Non sweetened. Water and unsweetened tea are ok. Do not take any carbohydrate containing foods until your blood sugars come down. If your numbers don't come down within a few hours you should go to the ER. You will need to see your doctor. maybe you need to start on insulin to help control your blood sugars. A low carbohydrate diet, and low glycaemic index foods may help you in controlling blood sugars.
1303110 tn?1273247668 Foods that will help you gain strength and give you energy are proteins (like eggs, hamburgers, seafood, beans) and eat those with a carbohydrate like toast, cereal, spagetti. If you have been sick for a while, drink stuff like V-8 and milk, to restore your electrolytes and vegie nutrients.
4630695 tn?1357357910 Just recently, i was diagnosed with slow digestion which gave me bacterial overgrowth. I had extreme diarrhea everyday and sometimes vomiting for 7 weeks before i was prescribed Xifaxan. I immediately started feeling better after the first dose. About two weeks after Xifaxan, i woke up with diarrhea again but just for a day. I was told to take Florastor, i am. After that i was constipated for 6 days until today that i have been going to the bathroom all day.
Avatar f tn m not sure if I need to see an Allergist, ENT, Gastroenterologist, Internist or who because about an hour after eating a carbohydrate I seem to get inflammation and swelling on my right side only...starting in my right sinuses, behind right eye, right ear, right throat, right lymph gland in neck, and going in a straight line down the right side of my chest and down to my right kidney. If I only eat meat, salads, and non starchy vegetables, water and plain tea, I don't have any symptoms.
