Avatar n tn the thing that helped me the most was something called the specific carbohydrate diet, which is quite strict. i was on it for 5 months -- big improvement in digestion. however, i lost too much weight (i'm quite thin) and it was very incovenient for me. if you can commmit yourself to it, i would highly recommend it. also, water fasting has helped me in the past temporarily. i've done it from one day to about 4 days.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I am a 31 year old female recently diagnosed with Dissacharidase Deficiency, otherwise known as carbohydrate malabsorption. According to my gastro, a bad viral infection I acquired almost 18 months ago knocked out only my lactase enzymes, but also the enzymes neccessary to break down sugars, most carbs and all starches. I also became seriously sensitive to fructose, the sugar found in fruit.

To get your digestion back on track and control your reflux symptoms, you can try the following: (My husband had your symptoms for many years and now has them under control) Eat plain yogurt every day for the good bacteria it contains. Take a full spectrum digestive enzyme from the health food store with each meal to ease digestion. Drink a bit of aloe juice or wheatgrass juice everyday to help eliminate gas and to heal your GI tract.
Avatar m tn Due to stomach problems, I have decided to try a Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Has anyone experienced relief on this diet? So basically, this is what I got from it- fresh vegtables, fresh fruits, lean meats, most nuts, NO LACTOSE, NO SUGAR (except in fruits and honey), and NO STARCHES. Is this about right? Also, what is the policy on yogurt and coconut milk?
Avatar m tn I recently had troubles with my stomach (http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/520201), where it would feel as if it was moving and gurgling all of the time (queasiness, but not quite nausea). It helped if I ate every 3-4 hours and sat up. I had no appetite. This lasted for a little over a week and went away by itself gradually (it came May 12 and went away May 21).

Avatar m tn It is not like I have to go restroom all the time, but whenever I do, I feel something is wrong with my digestion. I hear strange sounds in my stomach and I am not sure how to explain...I think my stool is too soft and this is continuing for weeks. Avatar n tn I am now 36 hours from my last dose of Oxy. I am getting through it, but my stomach is killing me. I never really have suffered from stomach issues so I don't know what to do. It is cramping something terrible. Do I take Pepto? Anti-gas tablets? Tums? Does anyone know what this is? I am pretty sure it is a WD symptom. Any suggestions?

Avatar f tn I'm 9 weeks along and for about a week I've been experiencing severe stomach pain after I eat. I'd compare it to really intense menstrual cramps. I have an appointment with my ob-gyn next week and I visited a walk-in clinic yesterday and the doctor said it was probably digestion related and to eat binding foods. I followed those instructions and am still having pain after every meal, has this happened to anyone else? and if so did you have any tips to stop the pain?
Avatar n tn I have difficulty with slow digestion due to medication (lyrica and ultram). My Gasterentologist prescribed Reglan 10mg Tid and Miralax Bid as needed. I don't seem to have strong enough peristalsis to create elemination. I must strain and push a lot to eliminate what I can but it is thin and ribbon like. Please help with some help or ideas other than give up your fibromyalgia meds. I swear I wouldn't want to go back to that kind of pain again! Can you help?
Avatar n tn It's not risky, but don't know how it would control diabetes. Type 2 Diabetes is a dietary disease, so it's possible it's beneficial effect on some people's digestion might be in play here, as well as its bitter qualities, but others don't do well on it -- it depends on the acid/alkaline state of a particular person's digestive system. Good for those who need it, maybe not so much if you don't.

Avatar n tn Some of the most acidic stuff on the planet! And when it is working right it starts the digestion of your food in your stomach. It is so acidic it changes all your food to acid (hence no acid-base reaction) then the gall bladder covers the food in bile from the liver and changes it to alkaline (basic) for its trip thru your intestines. If the food is not acidic from your stomach, the bile will make it too alkaline. Remember, for example lye is alkaline (basic) and it can burn like hell.
