carbohydrate

Avatar n tn Remember, all vegetables are carbohydrates, and carbohydrate foods are the main sources of most of our nutrients other than fat and protein. And by the same token, if someone is taking medication, does it also prevent the absorption of that? Some herbs can do this, particularly those that treat digestive problems, and must be take apart from food and medications for this very reason. So are you creating another problem to treat blood sugar with this method?
Avatar f tn , chiropractic orthopedist with the USMS Sports Medicine Committee. Carbohydrates are the main source of glucose in the body, and carbohydrate drinks are designed to rapidly replenish glucose and increase the body's insulin concentration. Another advantage of drinking a carbohydrate drink post workout is it also replenishes fluid lost during exercise. Fluids are easier to ingest after a vigorous workout than solid food and can be easily carried in a gym bag.
Avatar n tn First, you must realize that there is a huge difference in the treatment of type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. For the type 2 diabetic, I also have read (from the Atkins people) that their diet is a good way to lower glucose levels. This is logical for the type 2 diabetic, for eating a fairly low-carbohydrate diet would not require the production of as much insulin by the already stressed pancreas.
Avatar n tn If the diet does not contain enough carbohydrate to supply the body with glucose or sugar, stored fat is broken down instead and ketones are made. Do keep us posted. Best regards.
Avatar n tn The only way to perfect the control would be to do a blood test in the middle of the night and to then adjust with extra insulin. French fries are the other fat-laden carbohydrate that I notice digests equally slowly. I tend to avoid both of these foods most of the time just because I know that my insulin dose is going to be guesswork because digestion is not completed at bedtime.
Avatar f tn Carbohydrate cravings are a hallmark of insulin utilization problems, and often signal the onset of diabetes. You need to see a physician and request a test called an hba1c, and preferably a fasting glucose test as well. "Checking the sugar" is meaningless because at times you may have normal blood sugar, depending on when you have eaten.
Avatar n tn Sensations can be similar because in both situations the body is not being able to use the carbs that you have eaten. In the case of hypoglycemia this is because you have not eaten enough carbs. In the case of type 2 diabetes, this is because your body is not able to use the insuln it makes to properly convert the carbs you have eaten. The symptoms you describe for type 2 diabetes can all be attributed to hypoglycemia except for the rashes.
Avatar m tn A balance alkaline diet is essential in the care and prevention of Diabetes, Unfortuantely, a balanced diet will not meet all the bodies needs if the First Stage of Digestion is out of balance. The Gut is responsible for Sterilization, and conversion of the Nutrients consumed. There is very little absorption in the Gut except for certain fluids and alcohol. Pepsin is one of the Chief Enzymes of the Gastric Juices.

The only animal foods containing a significant amount of carbohydrates are dairy products. A recent study showed those who consumed the least salt had a 56% higher risk of death from a heart attack or stroke compared with those who had the highest consumption. Keep everything in moderation.
594189 tn?1386916607 Even worse, insulin resistance leads directly to obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. Many experts believe it is the root cause of the epidemic of those diseases in America today. And a low-fat diet makes it far more likely you will suffer from this condition. Millions of American women are now trying the Atkins Diet or the South Beach Diet.
Avatar f tn For those who take mealtime insulin, blood sugars have a tendency to rise in 1-2 hours and then drop over the next couple of hours. This is because the insulins we inject are much slower than the insulin the body makes, and also because people with diabetes lack hormones that slow the rate of digestion. The answer, as you alluded to, is not usually to take MORE insulin. Rather, we need to either make the insulin work earlier or make the food work later. This can be accopmlished by: A.
645800 tn?1466860955 Other times when I have eaten Chinese food with out the fried shrimp my glucose was OK in the morning and this makes the second time when I have had fried shrimp my glucose was way too high. I absolutely love shrimp! I have eaten over 2 pounds of shrimp in a single meal before. I just hope it is only that they were fried. I would hate it if I could not have shrimp at all.
Avatar m tn I saw this site that said, "all autoimmune disease is rooted in the gut!" It's about a GAPS diet, where you eliminate all grains and double sugars and it will heal your gut. I don't think I'm going to try this diet, but do all autoimmune diseases come from the gut. Does anyone have any thing positive to say about a diet like this? For the last few months I've been avoiding gluten because it seems to make my digestion feel better.
Avatar n tn Without insulin, these sugars build up in the bloodstream and the person becomes ill. In Hypoglycemia, the pancreas makes too MUCH insulin at times, and this overdose of insulin, if you will, causes the symptoms you describe. You will find that eating something that has some carbohydrates in it will make you feel better quicker than something that is low in carbohydrates when you feel this way. Many people exeperience this and there can be many causes.
Avatar m tn Cholesterol is generally considered in three classes. The 'bad' cholesterol is called ldl, the good cholesterol is hdl, and triglicerides make up the third leg of the tripod. How these three classes fit together are the important thing, not necessarily the number. For example, my total cholesterol after my last test was about 160, but the relationship of ldl/hdl was excellent, meaning that the good cholesterol was controlling my bad cholesterol.
1925135 tn?1323307656 For me, the key to stepping back from the Type II precipice was near total elimination of "intentional" consumption of carbohydrates. I eat pounds and pounds of almonds, walnuts, and peanuts, and they all have some carbohydrates. But I rarely intentionally consume foods like pasta, potatoes, and rice. I completely avoid fruit juices, sugared soft drinks, and of course candy. In 9 months, I've dropped from an unmedicated A1C high of 7.2 to an unmedicated 5.
Avatar m tn I always take 2 or 3 pulkas or chapathis during night every day and i dont eat rice during night.. Keep food well covered in the refrigerator and in glass containers to prevent molds from forming. Try not to eat outside the home. In general, a low carbohydrate diet is the best. One good ingredient is Glutamine.
Avatar n tn Hi again Abeybaby, Yes, oats are carbohydrates (as are all breakfast cereals like wheat, barley, rice, rye, corn). While all carbos affect our blood sugar (even folks like you without diabetes), "whole grain" carbos are easier on our systems and don't typically cause spikes in blood sugar, because they have fiber to slow the digestion process. Your blood sugars after eating sound normal to me.
Avatar f tn [D]iabetic gastroparesis is caused by damage to the nerves that control the pace at which food leaves the stomach and gets processed in the gut. Some people experience nausea, while others may only note that they can't eat as much at one time. If the rate of food emptying from your stomach is too slow and you took insulin before the meal, your blood glucose may fall before the food has had a chance to be absorbed.
Avatar m tn Illness not only affects your eating, sleeping, and exercise, it may cause the liver to make and release glucose into the bloodstream. This increase in glucose provides extra energy to combat the stress of an illness, but in people with diabetes it can cause blood glucose to rise too high, whether or not you are eating.

Avatar f tn I had such a bad time with the anxiety, (waves of panic )that it turned into Gastritis. Once I was diagnosed and put on the right medicine things started to calm down including the rapid heart beating. My suggestion would be to have a full blood panel (CBC) which icludes the basic thyroid panel if everything comes back normal I would go to a Gastro. to see if there is something going on in your gut. Good luck and be proactive you are going to be OK.
