Common Questions and Answers about Carbohydrate counting of honey

carbohydrate

Avatar n tn Honey is a carbohydrate (carb) and like all carbs it will raise your BG. How much depends on you and how much honey you eat.
Avatar f tn When used in larger amounts, as in cooking and baking, these calories and carbohydrate should be accounted for by carbohydrate counting or by using starch/bread exchanges. As an example, one half cup of SPLENDA® Granulated contributes 12 grams of carbohydrates and 11 to 20 grams are counted as one starch exchange. In SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener Packets, sucralose is combined with maltodextrin and dextrose. These ingredients contribute 1 gram of carbohydrate and four calories per packet.
Avatar m tn Honey is a very dense carbohydrate. Carbohydrates raise Blood sugar (BG) so small amounts of honey used rarely...
Avatar f tn While it is normal to have a rise in blood sugar level after a meal, excessive rise in blood sugar levels could indicate inappropriate dosage/ timing of injecting the insulin or excessive or inappropriate proportion of carbohydrate in diet. You could start by slightly lowering the carbohydrate and increasing the protein portion of diet. If this does not seem to help, I would suggest consulting your treating endocrinologist for adjustment in dosage/ timing of the insulin. Hope this is helpful.
Panda We do know that ALL carbohydrates raise Blood Glucose (BG) let me repeat that ALL carbs raise BG rice, pasta, potato, wheat (bread), sugar, honey, most fruit ALL contain significant amounts of carbs and will raise BG. Get a BG (Blood Glucose) meter. Test before you eat, test 1 hour after you eat. if your BG is too high you eat too many carbs. Too high is over 140 (US measure) 7.8 every ware else.
7628588 tn?1392763151 They were seasonal treats found during the warm months of the year, honey, berries, and fruit. Our bodies have not evolved sufficiently to run on carbohydrates. Rampant Type II diabetes is proof of that. So, do you really want to lose weight, and lower your blood glucose level? No "white stuff". Eliminate anything white; flour, pasta, potatoes, sugar, rice, white bread, etc. Exercise! Help use up those latent carbs out of your system, and become a fat burning engine.
973741 tn?1342342773 I'm wondering about this topic. Does counting your carbs help prevent diabetes? An essential thing to do if you are worried about diabetes? What are the best ways to do this?
Avatar m tn For example, on page 48, they list the breakfast of champions, 1 cup oatmeal topped with 1 Tbsp honey, 2 Tbsp dried cherries, 2 Tbsp walnut haves, 8 oz of plain kefir, and 1 medium banana. This supplies 600 calories and 90G of carbohydrate. No bad for breakfast. (But watch your calories if you aren't burning that many).
Avatar m tn My symptoms also include depression, sleeplessness, and being exhausted, even while I stick to a strict diet of eating no carbs. Symptoms of sever diarrhea have been resolved by taking digestive enzymes. Recently I have had relief from my eye allergies for about 9 months by taking large does of digestive enzymes, but the effects have since worn off. History: I have been tested for parasites many time and results were always negative. Tested for celiac disease, negative.
Avatar f tn I have been formally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and possible Carbohydrate Intolerance. My issue is when I eat a load of carbs, it hits up to 3 days later and I can't hardly get out of bed and am weak most of the day. Everything I read about Carb Intolerance says that fatigue usually hits within the first few hours. Has anyone else experienced this? Carb crash, a day or days after the carbs are eaten?
Avatar m tn It is also important that you tweak the diet so it suits your needs. If Honey gives you pain, kick out the honey. If you hate spinach, but love pumpkin, just switch. The diet is in guidelines, not rules. It is however very important that you start with the intro diet, and most of the things during the first phase of the diet (for the phases look on pecanbread.com) is cooked to mush for better digestion, so it should be most gentle for your stomach. Good luck, hang in there!
Avatar m tn Honey is a sugar, even though some say natural is better, and to some extent honey is better. It still will/can raise sugar levels. For use in ulcers and other assorted issues, the Manuka type from New Zealand is superior, it comes in strengths for example of 100, 400, the larger the number the more antibacterial activity it has. This stuff I've used on Type 1 Diabetic wounds and they healed. I have to tell them to NOT eat it though :) fb C.N.
Avatar n tn Babies under one year can't have unpasteurized honey because of the risk of botulism, which is why pregnant women can't have it as well. If you look at the label you can see if its pasteurized or not. The bear honey is usually pasteurized so it's safe to eat. Botulism is a very hard bacteria to kill though which is why professional pasteurization is necessary. Heating raw honey at home won't kill it. It requires high heat and significant pressure....
Avatar f tn Honey is fine as long as its pasteurized. Infants under one are the only ones not allowed to have it.
Avatar f tn It's fine for you to have it babies just can't directly ingest it since their immune system is still developing your breastfeeding milk isn't affected by it.
Avatar f tn Honey is 100% safe to eat during pregnancy. I eat it on toast everymorning, I also work with a dietician because I have GD and she says its harmless.
Avatar f tn Most of the stuff you buy at the store (in the little bear container or just cheap honey) is not true honey, buy a sugary honey flavored syrup. Make sure if you want to eat it that it says it is pasteurized and raw or all natural!
Business woman1 I suggest you eat frequent small meals and stop counting calories. It is best to eat lots of fruits and non-starchy green veggies, go slow on fats, eat carbohydrates in moderation and increase your protein intake (lean cuts, whites of eggs etc). Drink plenty of water and non fattening fluids such as clear soups etc. Look for hidden calories in salads and soups and avoid them (eg: cheese, butter, dressings etc). Also, you need to exercise regularly.
Avatar f tn No, honey. They wasted your time and the insurance company's money if they did this knowing that you were only 2 to 3 weeks pregnant. How are you counting that, from conception? If you count the medical way, you start the count with the first day of your last period. (Counting the medical way, "2 weeks pregnant" is really pretty much the day of conception, and you REALLY couldn't see anything then on an ultrasound.
Avatar f tn I'm getting sick I wanted to have some hot green tee with lemon and honey. So I went to get honey and its says on the back DO NOT FEED HONEY TO INFANTS UNDER ONE YEAR OLD.I'm 27weeks does it mean I can't have honey too.
