So basically, this is what I got from it- fresh vegtables, fresh fruits, lean meats, most nuts, NO LACTOSE, NO SUGAR (except in fruits and honey), and NO STARCHES. Is this about right? Also, what is the policy on yogurt and coconut milk?

Avatar f tn While it is normal to have a rise in blood sugar level after a meal, excessive rise in blood sugar levels could indicate inappropriate dosage/ timing of injecting the insulin or excessive or inappropriate proportion of carbohydrate in diet. You could start by slightly lowering the carbohydrate and increasing the protein portion of diet. If this does not seem to help, I would suggest consulting your treating endocrinologist for adjustment in dosage/ timing of the insulin. Hope this is helpful.

Avatar m tn Make sure you eat a handful of nuts every day besides the health benefits of this, people who eats nuts everyday tend to lose more weight! It's not as much about the caloric value of foods as it is sugar and carbs. Walking alone is a great exercise which is easy to do and will aid in weightloss. It's frustrating when the meds cause you to gain weight, but keep fighting back. Re-think your diet and make sure your are making the best choices, and increase your exercise.
Avatar f tn HI, if you are concerned about weight (to maintain) then you need to eat higher fat. This should come fro m healthy foods and complex carbs that digest slowly. Good foods which are energy dense include nuts, foods like avocado, eggs, meats.... these will give you calories, but won't increase your blood sugar.... Make sure you eat healthy fats with your carbs. These also slow down the carbohydrate absorption. Hope this helps.

What I want is a list that only has carb counts of many many foods. I have a book or two with that but I want it online, ready for me to cut and paste and make it customized for my twin daughters.

Business woman1 I suggest you eat frequent small meals and stop counting calories. It is best to eat lots of fruits and non-starchy green veggies, go slow on fats, eat carbohydrates in moderation and increase your protein intake (lean cuts, whites of eggs etc). Drink plenty of water and non fattening fluids such as clear soups etc. Look for hidden calories in salads and soups and avoid them (eg: cheese, butter, dressings etc). Also, you need to exercise regularly.

According to my gastro, a bad viral infection I acquired almost 18 months ago knocked out only my lactase enzymes, but also the enzymes neccessary to break down sugars, most carbs and all starches. I also became seriously sensitive to fructose, the sugar found in fruit.
Avatar n tn I am alot on high protein and vegetable foods and avoid carbohydrate rich food. That helps me on my colitis and makes it easy to control my weight. However I have had problems with constipation from this foods. What I do is that once a day (during my reward meal) I eat 1/3 of a banana, 2-3 spoons of kashju nuts and other nuts with various berries. Daily I also take pro-biotics and at least one glass of psyllium husk steared into warm water. This works fine on me and resolves the problem.
Avatar f tn My OB gyn said that as long as my baby moves actively throughtout the day, kick counting isnt mandatory because that might stress me out (she is aware i am already stressed for few personal reasons). I trust her completely. But still wanted to known if any momma did not take the counts and it was fine. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Avatar f tn If you want to stay within the 1550 calories per day and eat the nuts, then recommend cutting back on something else. Maybe use the nuts in a salad as a main meal so you are getting protein with carbohydrate vegetables, and good fats.
