979080 tn?1323433639 Limit carbohydrates to reduce triglycerides in the liver Excessive carbohydrate consumption is one of several characteristics of the American diet that contributes to abnormal lipid profiles and fatty liver disease. Avatar f tn When used in larger amounts, as in cooking and baking, these calories and carbohydrate should be accounted for by carbohydrate counting or by using starch/bread exchanges. As an example, one half cup of SPLENDA® Granulated contributes 12 grams of carbohydrates and 11 to 20 grams are counted as one starch exchange. In SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener Packets, sucralose is combined with maltodextrin and dextrose. These ingredients contribute 1 gram of carbohydrate and four calories per packet.

Avatar n tn Last May I was diagnosed with breast cancer (stage 1-- tumor was 1 cm, E.R. positive, node negative, grade 3, Her2 negative; oncotype score was 29), had a lumpectomy, sentinel node biopsy, chemo, and now I'm getting radiation therapy. I have been researching lifestyle factors (in alternative as well as conventional literature) in breast cancer, including nutrition. I have received conflicting information in the literature.

Business woman1 Hi! To start any drug, a doctor must have sufficient reason to do so, and the drug should not be more harmful than the disease it is being used to treat. Drugs used to treat obesity have a lot of side effect. Hence, they are restricted for those who are morbidly obese. In these people the hazards of being morbidly obese outweigh the hazards of taking the drug.
Avatar n tn Hi Lurius, Net carbs are getting lots of attention these days because of all the Atkins dieters, but it's actually long been an important concept for diabetics who do carbohydrate "counting" and then try to match our insulin to the amount of carbos we're eating. Foods that have carbos typically have a combination of carbos that we can metabolize (and therefore will affect our BG) and those that we can't (fiber). We subtract fiber from total carbs to get net carbs.
10947 tn?1281404252 I would be very interested in a food/nutrition tracker.
Avatar m tn Good sources of protein include lean meats, fish, poultry, nuts, seeds and legumes. Healthy carbohydrate sources include fruits, vegetables and whole grains. You might also consider buying a protein powder and drink shakes between your meals and after exercising. Personally i use QuickMass from Allmax Nutrition. I was was 118 lbs when i started it 1 month ago and now I'm 129.
417564 tn?1287982827 I stopped getting proper nutrition but kept up with the massive amounts of vitamins. I used supplements...but it would really take alot. I simply did not feel like eating, so I listened to my body and I did not eat...I drank water, I did everything else right. As our counselor said...I am no doctor. Vitamins are very hard on your stomach...especially coming off methadone because you lack proper gut function. Nutrition is of equal importance.
Avatar f tn While it is normal to have a rise in blood sugar level after a meal, excessive rise in blood sugar levels could indicate inappropriate dosage/ timing of injecting the insulin or excessive or inappropriate proportion of carbohydrate in diet. You could start by slightly lowering the carbohydrate and increasing the protein portion of diet. If this does not seem to help, I would suggest consulting your treating endocrinologist for adjustment in dosage/ timing of the insulin. Hope this is helpful.
Avatar n tn Why are you posting and not your father? Can you explain "precautions"? Do you mean prevent his diabetes from progressing? If yes we need to know what he is doing to control and manage his diabetes - foods he eats, exercise program, blood sugar levels and when he tests? "the good diet plan for them...." Changing lifestyle habits can go a long way in controlling type 2 diabetes. India leads the world in diabetes. This is mainly due to poor diet/nutrition.

Avatar n tn Instead eat whole grains, vegies, fish, poultry and lean meats. Avoid high carbohydrate foods as these turn quickly into sugar after eating. Read all nutrition labels carefully. Sugars listed under carbohydrates are presented in grams. Every 7 grams equals a heaping Tablespoon of sugar. 2. Maintain normal body. If overweight lose the excess fat. 3. Exercise 30-60 minutes daily. Walking is a good way to lower blood sugars.
Avatar n tn This is logical for the type 2 diabetic, for eating a fairly low-carbohydrate diet would not require the production of as much insulin by the already stressed pancreas. However, if insulin resistance is the main problem for a type 2 diabetic, then lowering the carb count may not really be the solution, and medications to help the insulin-resistance problem still may be needed.
Avatar f tn You may be experiencing a blood sugar drop due to the macronutrient balance in your meal. Try increasing the protein and fat, and reducing the carbohydrate foods in your meal. Vegan diets also tend to be low in iron and vitamin B12, and as these are depleted in your body, you may feel weak or dizzy. Vitamin D is also a possible concern if you don't spend enough time in the sun, and a D deficiency can manifest with full-blown neurological symptoms.
Avatar m tn It has helped control my diabetes until this past year. Are you counting your carbohydrate intake and keeping it within the recommended amount every day?
4258441 tn?1351822696 You might not be getting everything you need from your diet. I am the same age and found myself gaining weight because I was low on iron/anemic and losing muscle (which burns calories faster than fat.) Since I started taking iron and making sure I'm getting proper nutrition along with restricting my calories-- I feel much better and the weight is coming back off.
