However, if insulin resistance is the main problem for a type 2 diabetic, then lowering the carb count may not really be the solution, and medications to help the insulin-resistance problem still may be needed.

Foods that have carbos typically have a combination of carbos that we can metabolize (and therefore will affect our BG) and those that we can't (fiber). We subtract fiber from total carbs to get net carbs.

Avatar n tn From what I read, the original HCG treatment consisted of daily shots of that hormone plus an extreme diet of 500 calories, and there was no medical evidence that it worked. It got popular (as fad diets do) and now they sell homeopathic (oral) versions of the hcg that have unknown ingredients and doses. Fad diets don't work and are dangerous for diabetics. I know it is hard to lose weight at your mother's age.

Debate is ongoing on maximum daily amount one can ingest from 900 to 1500 mg/kg/day. Taste like sugar but sweeter. Stevia - Derived from a plant. Also sold as Truvia and PureVia. ● Stevia has been around for a number of years. Used extensively in Japan. Very high sweet flavor. Some like it, some do not. Does not bake well. Safe for diabetics.

I'm sure he was must've been given recommended doses. Is he seeing an endocrinologist? Avatar n tn I shall certainly go for a Hba 1c test as advised by you. I did eat very high carb and sugars meal before going in for the test. I will have to restrict my carb intake. And desserts should be a 'no' 'no'. !! I am a non veg and have fish, eggs and chicken occasionally.

But I thought that the day to do the blood work would be 6 months from March 13 which would be Sept 13. Just wondering what your doctors are doing or what you have been told. Thanks .
Avatar f tn While it is normal to have a rise in blood sugar level after a meal, excessive rise in blood sugar levels could indicate inappropriate dosage/ timing of injecting the insulin or excessive or inappropriate proportion of carbohydrate in diet. You could start by slightly lowering the carbohydrate and increasing the protein portion of diet. If this does not seem to help, I would suggest consulting your treating endocrinologist for adjustment in dosage/ timing of the insulin. Hope this is helpful.

Avatar n tn Insulin is a powerful and very useful medication for diabetics. It is not to be feared, but you will need to learn to use it safely. Normal HBA1C is in the 4s or low 5s. 7.5 is well above normal. Truely normal fasting (is in the 80s) and 2 hours after eating should have returned close to fasting level. Your numbers are very much above this. Even if someone is diabetic the objective is to ideally keep blood sugar below 140 at all times to prevent complications.

Even after operation he started giving symptoms of hypoglycemia.i.e. shivering, confusion etc. He was advised and treated for hypolycemia. However, today sometimes his sugar level increases upto 200-220 & sometimes hypoglycemia symptoms are seen. I am confused how should my father be treated - as diabetic or for hypoglycemia?

Do let him read this information, for most diabetics are unaware of the results of a study done just a few years ago. This was a life-saver to me, for no doctor has ever given me this information.
