Avatar f tn I am coping and doing my best, but I was wondering if anyone knows of support groups for adults with either CSID or carbohydrate malabsorption. I can find groups for parents with kids who have these disorders, but nothing for adults. Just want share stories, make some friends who understand and perhaps swap some recipes. Also looking for a good nutritionist/dietitian referral in the southern california area if any one can pass along a recommendation.
Avatar n tn It is not hard to cook proper foods instead of relying on man-made junk foods. There are thousands of recipes on the iNet which one can follow. If weight conscious and diabetic start by lowering your carbohydrate intake. Eat organic whole grains, vegetables, fish and poultry, and fruits, and lean beef and pork. Avoid foods made with white flour; breads, crackers, pasta and white foods like rice and potatoes as these quickly turn into sugar after eating.
Avatar m tn However, I just noticed in this months issue of runners world some great low fat recipes that are unusually high in carbs. For example, on page 48, they list the breakfast of champions, 1 cup oatmeal topped with 1 Tbsp honey, 2 Tbsp dried cherries, 2 Tbsp walnut haves, 8 oz of plain kefir, and 1 medium banana. This supplies 600 calories and 90G of carbohydrate. No bad for breakfast. (But watch your calories if you aren't burning that many).
Avatar n tn Are fruits not good for him due to its sugar content? What is his limit for an alcohol intake? Can you recommend a website for me to view a sample menu for diabetics? Please help. Thanks.
579258 tn?1250649343 Be sure to search the Healthy Cooking forum, too, for similar recipes. We have tons of great holiday recipes...some are embedded in others' posts. If you enter your search term under the SEARCH THIS COMMUNITY area, directly above the RECENT ACTIVITY sidebar on the right side of the screen, you will find some great holiday recipes. (many people do not know how to search specific communities, that's the reason I mentioned this) Change up your search terms, too.
Avatar n tn My Colleague and Professor, Dr. Susan Wynn has several excellent websites which have recipes for Home-Made diets. I have copied a link for one of these as follows: http://www.susanwynn.com/Homemade_Diet_Recipe.php The only thing that I would alter for your dog would be to reduce or eliminate the amount of rice and increase the amount of meat to make it more of an Atkins type diet due to your dog's voracious appetite to avoid possible weight gain.
Avatar f tn Most important is to control and manage your diabetes. Then limit your carbohydrate food intake for weight loss. Use Google to search and understand the difference between 'simple carbs and complex carbs'. Go to the Atkins web site for low carb information and recipes. Click on programs to get started. http://atkins.com/Homepage.aspx Pay careful attention to your breath, your body odor, or urine if any starts to have a fruity sweet smell.

1266263 tn?1270153368 When you deplete your glycogen stores, as can happen during repeated days of hard training and a low carbohydrate diet, you feel overwhelmingly exhausted. Eating high carbohydrate foods like cereal, pancakes, bread, fruit, vegetables, potato, pasta on a daily basis can help you train harder and compete better. All the best.
973741 tn?1342342773 This is so rich and satisfying that just 1 piece is usually enough. There are plenty of great recipes for low carb foods these days. For example, instead of having spaghetti and meat sauce, I have spiralized zucchini with meat sauce. My kids don't like zucchini, but they sure like "green spaghetti"; and sometimes we make orange spaghetti by spiralizing carrots. :) I have been eating low carb (more or less strictly) for the past 10 years.
Avatar f tn I keep a bowl of sliced radishes, celery, carrots, etc sitting on the counter most of the time, so whenever I walk by, I can grab a few slices to munch on. This keeps me from being so hungry at meal time. I also keep a large tumbler of iced lemon water on the counter and I sit at that whenever I walk by, as well. Drinking water keeps me hydrated and helps keep me fuller. And of course, there's always exercise.

Avatar f tn I have been formally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and possible Carbohydrate Intolerance. My issue is when I eat a load of carbs, it hits up to 3 days later and I can't hardly get out of bed and am weak most of the day. Everything I read about Carb Intolerance says that fatigue usually hits within the first few hours. Has anyone else experienced this? Carb crash, a day or days after the carbs are eaten?

7406493 tn?1453999212 I need recipes because I'll be forced to cook once my lil guy gets here and can eat what mama eats. Lately, my sister has been cooking meals for both her son and I...lol.
Avatar f tn The sugar supplied by the real fruit is a natural carbohydrate. Blend the smoothie with fruit juice, sherbet or frozen yogurt for flavor. Try a whole wheat pita or tortilla stuffed with scrambled eggs and cheese for a quick and healthy option. A bowl of oatmeal topped with blueberries or a side of dried cranberries offers protein and carbohydrates. The key is to choose whole grains and natural fruits and avoid refined, sugar-filled junk foods. If you want a list of smoothie recipes let me know!
Avatar m tn ve had to work with two of my three kids because they have a tendency for high insulin levels. I changed their diets slowly. I buy frozen fruit, put it in a blender with some water and make slushies. When they get home from school, I put out a plate of fruit with some cubes of cheese as a snack. Or peanut butter on a rice cake. Or celery with a tablespoon of cream cheese. Spend time reading up on healthy diets. Use the internet to find recipes. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn A lot of the recipes make large portions so you can easily freeze them and reheat later. This convenience factor works great for me. I am a picky eater and have found many recipes that I really like.
Avatar m tn t hesitate to ask your doctor about taking an appropriate medicine ( For example, metformin) . I have been on insulin for 23 years and lead a near normal life. With diabetes, checking your blood sugars on a regular basis is important. Since you are from India, I would also regularly get blood pressure and cholesterol levels checked because we Indian are prone to metabolic syndrome where blood sugar, lipids and blood pressure are all elevated and leads to a number of problems.
1916673 tn?1420233270 This article has taken a long time to devise, research and prepare ... but it's now available to the Group, I'm pleased to say. There are 10 recipes here, including two treat recipes. One word of caution ... if you have a dog that has pancreatitis, don't use these recipes, as they are high fat/meat content. Always check with your vet beforehand. I hope some of you find these ideas useful in the battle to get your dog to eat.
