Avatar m tn Due to stomach problems, I have decided to try a Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Has anyone experienced relief on this diet? So basically, this is what I got from it- fresh vegtables, fresh fruits, lean meats, most nuts, NO LACTOSE, NO SUGAR (except in fruits and honey), and NO STARCHES. Is this about right? Also, what is the policy on yogurt and coconut milk?
Avatar f tn Have any of you used tonic water for leg pain relief from wd? Day 7 off methadone & someone told me to drink tonic water & orange juice. Anyone with experience?
Avatar n tn Diabetes results when the body is no longer able to properly process blood glucose. A daily tonic of apple cider vinegar can supply pectin, a water-soluble fiber good for helping to regulate glucose levels. Since many diabetes sufferers have impaired digestive functions, apple cider vinegar can also help restore good digestion and nutrient absorption.
Avatar m tn Hi Aquisi, I'm on day 5 myself with the S/O and I was wondering the same thing. My best guess is filtered tap water is best but I seriously don't think some Pellegrino mixed in is going to hurt anything. :) Not sure what the difference in Pellegrino and seltzer water is though. It's probably better to stay away from tonic water though cause of the quinine.
Avatar m tn I read at WWW.peoplespharmacy.com/2010/10/11/is-quinine-in-tonic-water-safe/ there are 83 mg of quinine in 1 liter. My question is, if I drink a liter every evening would this cause me to have a positive results from a drug screen?
446891 tn?1205259587 Regarding question and answer of 14Jan07 re possibility of tonic water having caused retinal damage ... On the crew bus to the airport after an overseas layover sometime during the 90s, we were reading an international newspaper and there was an article about the U.S. Navy having ordered their pilots to discontinue the drinking of tonic water before flights.
Avatar f tn I absolutely hate the taste of tonic, but it really does work. I kept a bottle in the fridge and had that bottle for way over a month so I don't think the level in a bottle of tonic water is anywhere near the dosage in a quinine pill given to a malaria sufferer. My mother received quinine pills from her doctor for RLS for years (before it had the fancy name of RLS).
5536514 tn?1373500002 The tonic water is in addition to my water intake. I am practicing now for when my Meds start and I drink approx 100 oz water (H2O) daily in addition to th tonic water, my 16 oz cup of Red Zinger (herbal, not caffeinated) tea and any juice. 2 to 4 times a week, I will have, in addition, a cup of 'coffee' - 12 oz nonfat milk + 6 oz coffee. When I do that, I increase my water by a minimum of 12 oz - double the amount of the coffee.
Avatar f tn Resistance training, running and any other strenuous exercise deplete glycogen in the muscles. Recovery sports drinks are superior to water because the body needs more than just water after exercise to replenish energy stores. During recovery, the body is busy removing lactic acid and replacing depleted glycogen supply.

Avatar n tn With my last battle of withdrawal i finally decided to try highland restful legs but i could not find the one with quinine in it. So i had read posts on here before about drinking tonic water because it has quinine in it, so i would take a restful leg pill and wash it down with a few gulps of tonic water. It could just be me but i found that when my body started aching i would just take a few sips of tonic water and it would take away many of the aches and pains tremendously.
Avatar f tn If you start having nighttime leg cramps Canada Dry Tonic water will stop them quickly and will last for the rest of the night. The quinine in the tonic water has been used for years for night leg cramps. The FDA removed them for all use other than malaria. Believe it ,it works.
Avatar m tn right, this is why we talk about drink tonic water ( it's supposed to have it ).. don't think one can buy quinine OTC but i' not sure. As RLS was a hell for me so i would advise u to lessen its effects, to take a magnessium+calcium supplement apart from eating as much bananas, oranges or apples as you can. I always ate two bananas with a glass of hot milk before going to bed and after taking a long hot bath ( if you can add some epsom salts ...better ).. hope i've helped u.
Avatar n tn and actually produce no insulin of their own (or very little insulin if they do produce any), and so lowering the carbohydrate count in their diets will not solve the problem.
Avatar m tn Oh just thought if you get tonic water get sugar free as too much sugar won't help with the sleep.
Avatar f tn Buy a probiotic to boost your immune system. Make sure the count is like 50 billion or more. Mine is 400 billion from RAW. This is both safe and recommended by my midwives/ OB. I also made a "tonic" for my tea: it's sooooo helpful. Get raw honey... Nothing that has ever been heated..... And put the jar in warm water in a pot on the stove to loosen it gently. To a jar, add sliced ginger, lemon, and a good amount of cinnamon.
Avatar m tn I went to a specialist and believe it or not he told me every night to drink a glass of tonic water - yup silly old tonic water. It contains quinine (spelling?). Well...since I've been doing that my legs are 99.9% Charlie horse free. It's like a miracle. Believe me I remember the nights (mostly I got them at night) trying everything to get rid of them. Once I tore the muscle badly because I tried to stretch it out to fast by forcing myself to step on it too fast.
Avatar f tn Pickle juice or tonic water. I swear it works! I'd get up and drink some pickle juice out of the jar and then crawl back in bed and sleep great. I ate a ton of bananas (A TON) and I'm telling you, pickle juice is the answer! I mention tonic water because an old lady I know drinks a glass every night for her restless leg syndrome and she swears by it. I like pickles so it's a personal preference.
3120424 tn?1347170032 Ok so I've made it to day 5. Whew. Things are slowly looking up. I posted earlier about the sweating - and yes- it's still sticking around. I am so greatful I've embraced this forum and have read some inspiring stories. It really does help. I really don't want to do too much complaining but this NJ girl is looking for some help with these RESTLESS LEGS! Up all night kicking and squirming...it's really awful. I've read tonic water (has quanine) can help.
10805050 tn?1420935520 ve heard about drinking Tonic Water before bed. The nurse at my Liver Docs office mentioned it and then the next day I saw it in an unrelated post. Anyone have luck with Quinine Water? Would love to hear from you. I don't think there's anything I can do about the itching...Doc said its from not processing bile back into the liver from digestive track so it swims around in my blood and when it hits the surface it itches. Tried 75 mg Benadryl, nothing...?
718869 tn?1236260459 If you are no able to find it you can drink Tonic water before bed will also help. Tonic water also has Quinine in it. Hope this helps anyone with rls. Have a good day to all and keep up the good work!
Avatar m tn Take magnesium and potassium tabs, drink Tonic water, and get some Hylands Restful Legs tablets. You can get it all at Walmart, Walgreens, etc...these things will help that horrible restless, crawling feeling you have. The other thing that helps it is cough syrup containing DXM so if you have some of that in the house, you can take a tbsp. of it every several hours. Keep forcing the fluids down: green tea, Gatorade, juices, water...
Avatar m tn Restless Leg Syndrome is associated with kidney problems, pregnancy, and iron deficiency. And you don't have to be anemic to be low enough on iron to experience RLS. If you have restless legs, you should have your serum ferritin checked: This is a measure of body iron stores-not just your hemoglobin and hematocrit, which is what doctors test for when they suspect anemia.
