1266263 tn?1270153368 Hi, The best fuel for muscles is carbohydrates, either simple sugars such as naturally occurring sugars in fruits and juices or complex carbohydrates the starches in whole grain products, rice, cereal, oatmeal and other plant foods. These carbohydrates provide not only energy but also important vitamins and minerals. You store only carbohydrates not protein or fats in your muscles in the form of sugar called glycogen. During hard exercise, you burn this glycogen for energy.

Avatar f tn Fluids are easier to ingest after a vigorous workout than solid food and can be easily carried in a gym bag. Carbohydrate sports recovery drinks are available in powder form and pre-mixed liquids. Drinking a glass of fruit juice is another carbohydrate drink that is absorbed quickly and easily digested. Carbohydrate-Protein Drinks Adding protein to your carbohydrate recovery drink can speed recovery time while helping to rebuild damaged muscle tissue. John M.
7628588 tn?1392763151 Yes, adopt a Paleo lifestyle. Humans were not designed to run on the carbohydrates we typically consume daily. They were seasonal treats found during the warm months of the year, honey, berries, and fruit. Our bodies have not evolved sufficiently to run on carbohydrates. Rampant Type II diabetes is proof of that. So, do you really want to lose weight, and lower your blood glucose level? No "white stuff".
Avatar n tn And high fat does not neccessarily result in high lipids and cholesterol. In fact the opposite is the case with some low-carb diabetic diets. Doctors often follow the 'book' to cover themselves. One needs to research carefully, and talk to people who are actually succeeding in controlling BG levels within normal range, avoiding hypos, and lowering serum lipids, cholesterol, BP etc. The only group of people I have found so far, that fall into this category, are those following Dr.
Avatar f tn While it is normal to have a rise in blood sugar level after a meal, excessive rise in blood sugar levels could indicate inappropriate dosage/ timing of injecting the insulin or excessive or inappropriate proportion of carbohydrate in diet. You could start by slightly lowering the carbohydrate and increasing the protein portion of diet. If this does not seem to help, I would suggest consulting your treating endocrinologist for adjustment in dosage/ timing of the insulin. Hope this is helpful.
Avatar n tn and actually produce no insulin of their own (or very little insulin if they do produce any), and so lowering the carbohydrate count in their diets will not solve the problem.
Avatar f tn I also became seriously sensitive to fructose, the sugar found in fruit. Symptoms include extreme reactions to eating carbohydrates (except certain veggies and particular legumes) such as nausea, diarrhea (especially the kind that smells like sugar - if you have it you know what I am talking about), undigested food, ever changing appearance of bowel movements, acne within about 8 hours of consumption (must hit a critical mass) and rashes in response to simple sugars.
Avatar m tn water, carbohydrates and electrolytes. However, there are differences in the electrolyte and carbohydrate contents and ingredients of these two products.
Avatar n tn Higher protein diets (low carbohydrate diets) are a good way to lose body fat, but often are higher in fat. Fat is often high in calories, but you can chose healthier fats. So if you would consider a high protein diet, you would almost have to forget about a caloric intake.
Avatar m tn Blend the fruit in the milkshakes, such as bananas and some avocado. He will not taste the avocado with the banana flavor. You can try strawberries or other fruits, too.
Avatar f tn The sugar supplied by the real fruit is a natural carbohydrate. Blend the smoothie with fruit juice, sherbet or frozen yogurt for flavor. Try a whole wheat pita or tortilla stuffed with scrambled eggs and cheese for a quick and healthy option. A bowl of oatmeal topped with blueberries or a side of dried cranberries offers protein and carbohydrates. The key is to choose whole grains and natural fruits and avoid refined, sugar-filled junk foods. If you want a list of smoothie recipes let me know!
Avatar f tn Avoid high Carbohydrate snacks, you should continue to eat small meals throughout the day, it helps your body to constantly burn calories because you're not starving yourself. Go Easy on fruit because they are high in sugar, I wouldn't have more than 1-2 servings of fruit in a day. Try to eat higher protein foods as protein suppresses hunger and lasts longer. Try getting a protein powder and make a protein shake about 45 min before lunch and dinner to help curb your hunger.
Avatar f tn All diabetics are a bit different in what we can eat and still keep our blood glucose in target range. In general most of us find we need to eliminate sugar and greatly reduce carbohydrate intake especially things like white bread, cereal rice and pasta. The best way to know what works for YOU is to try a certain food and test your blood glucose two hours after eating and make sure you stay within target.
Avatar f tn Watch fruit intake, because it tends to have a lot of sugar, which if not used quickly, will be stored as fat, even though it is "natural". If you're going to eat fruit, stick with those like apples and pears that are high in fiber.
Avatar f tn Most fruits people think of as fruits are almost all carb. If it's not fat or protein it's carbohydrate, which is why the whole concept of low carb diets is off. Vegetables are carbohydrates, but it wouldn't be healthy do without them. What low carb really means, or should mean, is avoiding simple carbs, such as sugar and white flower. Most fruits as we think of them are high in sugar, though it's not as quick to metabolize into simple sugar as processed cane sugar.

Avatar m tn I buy frozen fruit, put it in a blender with some water and make slushies. When they get home from school, I put out a plate of fruit with some cubes of cheese as a snack. Or peanut butter on a rice cake. Or celery with a tablespoon of cream cheese. Spend time reading up on healthy diets. Use the internet to find recipes. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn Does Drinking 100% fruit juice count as one serving of fruit? Like apple juice and juices like that? I'm a ftm & I hardly crave fruit right now during my pregnancy..

2026060 tn?1328918475 One study reported that consuming reconstituted fruit juices and beverages high in carbohydrate and osmolality (a measure of concentration), either just before or during exercise triggered the onset of a stitch, particularly in susceptible individuals. The symptoms didn't seem to be related to the amount of food eaten (gastric volume).
Avatar f tn The most important grains to eliminate are wheat, barley, and rye. Some people also cut out fruit. If you cut out fruit, as well as grains and added sugar, it makes for an extremely low-carb diet, but to me, cutting out fruit is going a little too far. Look into the paleo diet. Some people on paleo eat fruit, and some don't, but there is no paleo diet that includes processed foods, added sugar, or grains.
