Diet soda doesn't have sugar or carbs but it has something in it that makes your appetite increase! Just say NO to pop! You will be glad you did!

Avatar n tn A little while ago i had a nondiabetic doctor recommend a low carbohydrate diet to help keep my blood sugars low and when i mentioned it to my endocrinologist she said that that type of diet puts extra strain on the kidneys and since diabetics are already prone to kidney problems they should avoit it. i would recommend that at your next doctor appointment you ask to be referred to a dietician to go over the proper diet aspects for a diabetic.

I give a range because every person is a little different in how many units of insulin they give for a certain number of carbohydrates. I usually take 1 unit for every 12 grams of carbs--but that is just my body. Next, knowing the amount of carbohydrates in certain foods will help too.

My general recommendation would be to really focus on the amount of fiber you are getting. Real fruits and vegetables (especially raw ones) will help with this significantly. Eat more fish rather than pork or other red meats. Nuts are a great healthy snack (and help with your appetite too!
Avatar f tn I was on a 1200/day diet... 108 grams of protein, 108 grams of carbohydrate and I don't recall exact amount of fat, but I think it was about 25-30 grams. My doctor wanted me to do 2 protein shakes/day, plus eat 3 small meals/day, plus an hour of exercise and I really tried, but after a few weeks, I got so sick of those shakes, I couldn't stand the sight of them and I wasn't losing any weight anyway. I get most of my protein in the form of meat and dairy now...

Avatar n tn Depends on how you use your insullin. My doctor gave me an insulin to carbohydrate ratio to use. I use 1 unit of insulin to every 12 grams of carbs I eat. The less carbs I eat, the less insulin I use. I have a very physical job for four hours a day and I don't even need my Humalog when I eat lunch. My pen generally lasts me the whole month. My Humalog is only good for 28 - 30 days.
