Capillary blood glucose test procedure

Common Questions and Answers about Capillary blood glucose test procedure

blood

Avatar n tn Nobody has ever been known to catch HIV during the blood test procedure, at least not since the mid-1980s, when once in a while in developing countries some blood might have been drawn through needles previously used on other patients.. The test kits are designed to prevent it and those designs are excellent. It is not logical that the test personnel would re-use the same capillary tube to test consecutive patients.
Avatar n tn Hi Kumar, I am not a doctor, therefore I cannot answer your question in any scientific/medical terms. Your best bet would be to check with a doctor or peruse professional medical literature to find more specific explanations. My understanding of insulin resistance is narrowed down to the basic concept, which is that in insulin resistance patients the muscle, fat and liver cells don't use insulin properly causing excess glucose to bulid up in the blood.
Avatar m tn I read it is just kind of anticoagulant, what if it was a necessary substance for testing by blood rapid test? Although testing just by putting finger on test device without capillary tube was also recommended by manufacturer (it was testing procedure number 2), the rapid test was CE marked when i saw its pouch label, am i safe regarding all i said?
Avatar n tn Is there usually a difference in the test results from blood drawn from the arm and blood drawn from the finger tip? I heard that the fingertip blood can test higher than blood drawn from the arm and I wondered if that is usually the case.
11195379 tn?1427921527 8) so now i have gd. Ive read that drinking 3 glasses of water could help lower blood glucose. During my test i wasnt allowed to move around but could drink some water..but i didnt...so im wondering had i drank water if my level would be lower? I was so focused on keeping the horrid lucozade down (they cancel the test if you throw up) that i was almost napping in my chair for 2hrs. So im going to try hydrating from now on.
Avatar n tn s growth on ultrasound. I scheduled my glucose test today, and they automatically scheduled me for a two hour test on Wednesday... I thought the first test was supposed to be only one hour?! I tried calling my doctor to ask why and they said its standard procedure for their office but I still don't understand?.. When I was pregnant with my daughter I never did anything other than the one hour, so why is this doctors standard procedure the two hour? Is anyone else's doctor this way?
Avatar f tn so I am on my way to my glucose test and I am a ftm. I'm not too sure what to expect...any advice?
8761324 tn?1399733079 The glucose test is a crucial part of making sure your pregnancy is healthy.yes the drink is nasty to me.but i would rather drink it and wait that hour and make sure all is fine with me and my little boy.than to claim to be "too busy".like one said before. If you cant spare one hour for a test, how are you going to possibly spare hours for a new born?im just saying.
Avatar f tn I am confused as to what microvascular angina and insulin resistance have to do with each other. I am pre-diabetic, 35 lbs overweight, 50 yo female. If I can get my blood sugar down, will I see an improvement in chest pain???
Avatar m tn Another test you might want to consider would be a glucose tolerance test; this is a simple test offered be almost any lab that involves establishing a baseline fasting glucose result, then having the patient ingest a known quantity of glucose in solution. Serum glucose samples are then collected at specified intervals to determine the rate of glucose metabolism. If you indeed have insulin resistance, this will be reflected in the time it takes your serum to return to baseline glucose levels.
1813627 tn?1337722375 Had about 10 viles of blood taken which I gather is normal the first time. They also had be do an hour blood glucose test done which I thought was done later in pregnancy. So today I had to go for a 3 hr test sinces yesterday my number was 141 and they wanted me to be under 135. Anyone that can shed some light on this would be wonderful.
Avatar n tn Improper testing techniques comes to mind - not cleaning test area, uncalibrated test equipment, etc. To be certain of your blood sugar levels get an A1c [HbA1c, HgbA1c] test. An A1c test will inform you of your blood sugars levels for the past 2-3 months, the lifespan of new red blood cells. Excess blood sugars attach to new RBC's never getting absorbed for use as energy. The A1c captures this. It is the standard most doctors use to verify diabetes or not.
Avatar n tn Does anybody know the name of the disorder that causes a pigmentation change that sorta looks like a birth mark? This is due to the entaglement of blood vessels in the area. I can't remember whats its called exactly but it sounds something like nevinemasis?
Avatar m tn I would suggest that you make an appointment to see your doctor and ask if you can have a glucose intolerance test and do a HBA1C blood test. a HBA1C blood test will show the average glucose levels in the blood stream over a period of approximately 3 months. It may be that you have an insulin intolerance. This means that your pancreas is producing insulin, but this is not being used adequately by your body.
Avatar f tn And also said Ill have the glucose test my next apt. What would they have taken one more vial of blood for?
Avatar n tn It now uses ultrasound technology to expose capillary blood vessels to measure blood-sugar levels. But in future versions, the device will scrape off the outermost layer of skin. Other companies have failed in efforts to market alternatives to needles for diabetics. In 2001, Cygnus Inc. won FDA approval for its GlucoWatch, a blood-sugar meter that could be worn like a wristwatch.
Avatar m tn My doctor decided to run a 3 hour glucose intolerance test (100 mg glucose) on me to see if that gives any idea of what is happening. My test results appear normal, yet confusing to me. My starting glucose was 101, at one hour it was 117, at two hours it was 119, and at 3 hours it was 123. The procedure left me feeling a little dizzy at first, but it wasn't until I ate food after the appointment that I really struggled.
Avatar f tn Everyone is required to do it now. They just draw blood from your arm, like normal blood work. Mine came back negative, so my little boobear is ok:D and in a couple of weeks you'll get blood drawn again for glucose test...takes about an hr...lame. and then a few weeks after that, they do blood work again...but i forgot why this last time lol cow brains... haha or maybe this lastime was just me because im anemic and my platlets are very very low. Hmmm ..
Avatar f tn I just got home from by blood glucose test and feel really sick and tired. Is this normal? Does it mean something is wrong?
Avatar f tn I'm so pissed my doctor sent to do a blood glucose test gave me instructions not to fast and now that I got here the nurse told me I have to fast for it to be correct... like what the f***... has anyone had to take that 3 hours test cause of not fasting??
Avatar f tn What is the procedure for this test? At what point can I not eat so that I am fasting. And how long does it take?
