Avatar f tn Hi, The treatment of your angioedema depends on the type of angioedema you have. There are several types of angioedema and you may have one of the following: acute allergic angioedema, non-allergic drug reactions, idiopathic angioedema or hereditary angioedema. The swelling occurs when small blood vessels in the subcutaneous tissues leak watery liquid. It is important that you know which type you have for proper management. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I am trying to figure out if I have one of the many forms of angioedema. But the response I saw to "angioedema/anaphylaxis - the same thing? is one of the better summaries I have seen. Myself I am going to the Doctor Monday and see if he ran a C1 inhibitor functionality test when they drew blood on March 2 which was my first instant unilateral/self healing swollen lip experience. I don't have any abdominal pain so maybe I don't have Angioedema.

Avatar f tn Hello, About five weeks ago, I broke out in hives, my lips swelled up and I experienced chest pain and stomach pain with vomiting. This is now happening every 48 hours or so and I'm constantly covered in hives. I saw a doctor who referred me to an allergist. The allergist suspected a thyroid-related autoimmune disorder and my anti-thyroid antibody blood test (TPO AB) came back at 1374.
Avatar f tn Did your doctor test your thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb)? Here is a study on hereditary angioedema and these thyroid antibodies (thyroid microsomal antibodies is another term for TPOAb). "Sera from 91 patients with hereditary angioedema were screened for thyroid antibodies. The results for the 77 patients more than 17 years old were compared with previously published data for the prevalence of thyroid disease in a large community (Whickham).
Avatar f tn I've been having Urticaria for 2 months now. I never know where they will be day to day, but I'm miserable. Along with the hives I have swelling. Lips and around the eyes in the morning. Most embarrasingly though is angioedema down below. It is the worst itch and pain. I know it's angioedema because it coinsides with my face swelling. So awful. Has anyone else been experiencing this?

Avatar f tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Your symptoms could be due to zenker's diverticulum, more so as it is one sided and it is present for a long duration. Angioedema is swelling of the deeper layers of the skin due to an allergic reaction. The reaction occurs more commonly on the face around the lips and near the eyes. And this is usually visible, so it is unlikely to be due to angioedema.
Avatar m tn What is the current practice or tests that are requested for patients who suffer from Idiopathic Angioedema, but have all of the same symptoms and charateristics of those who have been diagnosed with HAE type I or type II?? Is there a concrete set of lab tests to determine whether or not an individual with Idiopathic angioedema has HAE type III ??? Also, even if one is diagnosed with type III, would that change how they were treated?

Avatar f tn He also took me off Lisinopril since the ACE Inhibitors can cause Angioedema. The Angioedema has not been as severe since, but I still experience both problems. I have also noticed hair loss since March. I just had the TSH test for my thyroid levels, and they are normal. I have no idea what could be causing it. I am taking 3 different meds for the hives, which still don't seem to give me enough relief and also make me extremely drowsy.
Avatar f tn I have been suffering from Angioedema for 4 years now, but it wasn't until this year that the attacks were consistent each month. For 3 months, my top lip swells and when it finally starts to go down, there is a bruise-like mark on my top lip. I have been prescribed Prednisne, but the mark just doesn't go away. I feel embarrassed and I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Avatar f tn After 14 specialists, an echo, laparoscopy, colon/endoscopy, extensive blood work, cat scans and 2 additional er visits, skin biopsy by dermatologist showed extensive fluid leading them to believe angioedema.
