toprol

Avatar n tn I STARTED ON 25MG(HALF A TABLET) THEN I WENT UP TO 50MG, NOW I TAKE 150MG A DAY. TABLET AND A HALF TWICE DAILY. I FEEL SOMETIMES IT WORKS GOOD, THEN OTHER TIMES I FEEL LIKE I DIDNT TAKE IT THAT DAY. BREAK THROUGH SYMPTONS I GUESS. I REALLY DON'T HAVE SIDE EFFECTS, THOUGH I NEVER KNEW WHAT THEY ARE, OR WHAT DO LOOK FOR. I WAS 33 WHEN THIS BEGAN IN 1993. I HAVE A STRONG FEELING HORMONES CAN PLAY A HUGE PART IN THIS.
Avatar n tn So, if you do decrease your Toprol XL dose by 50%, record your BP and heart rate at least 4 or 5 times a day, until it becomes stable again. You would logically think that reducing a dose of BB would cause your BP and HR to increase, BUT it can have the opposite affect. I personally have increased my dose of BB by 50%, and my BP and HR went high and was chaotic for awhile, until the autonomic nervous system can become stable again.
Avatar n tn He took me off my Calan and put me on Toprol 50 mgs once a day. After about a week I noticed my pulse was down to the 30's and 40's and BP was running 80/50's. I called the office and the nurse said to cut back to 25mg and chart my BP and pulse for a week and call them back. They are having a hard time believing that I'm reacting this way to it, since I was on 240 mg, twice a day of Calan.
Avatar m tn Toprol XL is designed to release over a 24 hour time period...so instead of taking immediate release metoprolol twice a day one can take the same dosage once/day. Literature states one to two weeks of continuous treatment before results can be expected. I've been on it for over a year (150mg/day, divided dose)) with no apparent side effects...
Avatar m tn I take regular release (lower cost) twice a day at 25 mg each. I've taken as high as 100 mg ER twice a day, and went under doctor's direction cold turkey from 200 to 100 then later to 50 mg. A calcium channel blocker was added to make up for the reduced BB in my case. I too have worn the long term (30 days? don't remember). I got used to it and don't remember having problems sleeping with it on In my case if confirmed my only problem is atrial fibrillation.
376186 tn?1219283105 I take the generic form of Toprol and I take 25 mg. It makes me a little tired at times but other then that...oh, I can feel a bit dizzy too. Now at one time my MD increased my dose to 50 mg but it was way too much for me. I felt like I was walking in glue all day long. I too really STRONGLY dislike taking meds and I soooo want to be weaned off of the beta blocker, but I don't see my MD again until March.
Avatar f tn I just discovered this after 3 months of total misery, 7 different doctors, multiple tests, 1 hospitalization, 16 pound weight loss, almost lost my job, etc., etc., etc.. I want to know if this will have permanent effects on my body and heart and will I ever be the same again. I still don't feel 100% and have been back on the brand TOPROL XL for 9 days now.
343006 tn?1314450071 Should you be taking it twice a day? Like you, I don't know, I am trusting my Doctor. I will be seeing a cardiologist soon to get a further work up. I just really want to sleep. My nights are worse, anxiety mostly.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know if it is possible for Toprol to cause or aggravate PACs? This would be a paradoxical effect, because Toprol is usually prescribed to prevent irregular beats. I was put on Toprol after an episode of a-fib about a year ago. Up to that point I had had only occasional isolated PACs. After starting Toprol the PACs increased, so the doctor increased the dosage. Every time the dose has increased the PACs have gotten worse after a few days or weeks.
Avatar n tn 37 Hello, I'm a 44 year old male, in good health, non-smoker, reasonable weight, but I was just prescribed Toprol XL ( 50mg, twice per day ) after an electrophysiology study to investigate my recent arrhythmia. I have several concerns; will I have to take this medicine the rest of my life? Will it lose effectiveness over time, forcing me to move on to stronger or different drugs? One of the side effects listed is sexual dysfunction...

Avatar n tn I have had 8 er visits in 2 years for afib. I take toprol 25 mg XL twice a day and a baby aspirin. Once I was cardioverted, once treated with amiodorone (in France), and the remaining times converted with toprol/or digoxin. All other cardiac exams are normal. Due to the frequency of re-occurence of a fib, the MD is thinking of Sotolol but because of the risk of v-fib. I am holding off. Is this side effect a common occurence? I am tired all the time. Could that be from the a-fib or the toprol?
Avatar n tn I now take propranolol, 10 mg twice a day which has helped a lot with my palps and doesn't make me tired. Maybe you could switch meds to find something that works better for you.
Avatar n tn I am on 100mg of Toprol XL twice a day and have had an ablation for Ventricular Tachycardia 4 months ago. I am wondering if the large dose of Toprol could be contributing to an increase in PVC activity?
503607 tn?1275675179 If you have no bad response, go up to the 25 mg twice a day. No, PLEASE, I am telling you what I'd do in your situation, I am not telling you what you should. do. Probably best to do exactly what your doctor said, go up to 50 mg a day. If he/she didn't say how, I'd split it into 25 morning and 25 night. I'd also take an aspirin and discuss that too with you doctor the next time you talk. I think you should be calm and positive.

Avatar n tn They are the same medication in a different release formulation so that you can take a single pill a day. Im not sure exactly why you were switched but there really should be no difference in the medication.
Avatar f tn If you want to mess with dosages (and I don't think you should), the generic Metoprolol Tartrate (referred to as just Metoprolol) can be cut in half without a problem. I take an odd, 75mg. Per day; 50mg at dinner, and 25mg (half a pill) upon rising. Think of your dose level as a "starting dose level". I've been as high as 200mg, and my cardiologist has prescribed 400mg to a few patients.
Avatar n tn Greta, It is very possible that it is the toprol that can be messing you up. I went through 3 months of panic attacks, depression, etc, last year. I was bounced from one med to another, but all the while no one considered my blood pressure medicine which at the time was Toprol XL 50 mg.
Avatar n tn Yesterday was first day of every other day, I did not take Toprol and was fine during the day. At night I starting getting jittery and nervous. I did not sleep all night. I know It could be many things, like PMS, anxiety from tapering off ( read too much on this) or Toprol Withdrawl symtoms maybe? I took the 1/2 dose this morning, not sure what will happen. Anyone every had this happen. (I am hoping its just PMS!! ) Just wondering if there are withdrawl symptoms and what they are?
Avatar n tn From what I know it is hard to see a specialist in England and can takes months to get the tests you request. If you are truely still woried ask for an Echocardiogram and an EKG and maybe a 24-48 Holter Monitor as this will almost always pick up any dangerous heart conditions. But regualr sinus tachycardia (normal heart rhythm just fast) cannont harm you at all.
687614 tn?1244201579 g., going from 50 mg twice a day to 50 mg once a day. I also went from 100 mg twice a day to 100 mg once a day. I have never made a jump from 200 mg to 50 mg without going through 100 mg for a few days.
Avatar n tn I take the toprol xl and I use the generic and it cost me roughly $20 and I take 125mg twice a day. but you must make sure it is the generic for toprol xl because there is metoprolol succinate which is the generic for toprol xl and metoprolol tartrate which is the generic for lopressor. They both work in two different ways so they can not be interchanged at the same dose. I asked this question before toprol xl became a generic.
Avatar m tn can you remember to take it twice a day...at the proper time? If so, then you can ask your doctor for the chance to try it.
Avatar n tn Because of this and an elevated heart rate on last visit my toprol xl was increased from 100 to 150 mg in morning and another 50 at suppertime because the heart rate is so high while sleeping is this a concern. And is it unusual to take a extended lopressor twice a day. They think its not releasing as it should.
Avatar m tn Anyway, I have stopped taking the Toprol twice since and the symptoms go away. And then I wait a week or so and start teh Toprol again, and the symptoms return. It is starting to look like the Toprol might be a factor. But there is very little that I can find that points to Toprol causes arrythmias; in fact, the opposite. However, is it possible that I am having trouble metabolizing the drug now, after all these years? Other possibilities? Thanks much!
