My doctor prescribed the generic pravastatin as a more afordable alternative to atorvastatin but also doubled the amount I take (from 20 mg of atorvastatin to 40 mg of pravastatin). Should I be concerned about the effectiveness of pravastatin?

Can someone explain what, if any, evidence there for a switch from simvastatin to pravastatin? My husband's doctor said there is new evidence that simvastatin may be detrimental. Unfortunately, my husband did not quiz him further. He already has one stent in a narrow back artery but he has brought his cholesterol down considerably with the statins.

Does anyone know if the medicine Pravastatin (for high cholesterol) can cause your sugar to go up? I had quit taking it for about 2 weeks and my sugar which is usually high came down to 90-120, when I started taking it again my sugar went back up to 180-230.

Clinical trails of Pravastatin, commonly used to lower cholesterol and decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease, do show an increase in parasympathetic modulation of heart rate. In simple words, Yes it does effect the heart rate to beat faster.

t take it very long because it made me feel sick so the doctor switched me to Pravastatin. I soon switched doctors because he was making me uncomfortable with the things he was saying and my new doctor did a liver enzyme test. It came back elevated so she took me off of the Pravastatin to see if my enzymes would improve. They did start to level out and she even said that my cholesterol had also dropped down to 150. This made me very happy and I continued to exercise and eat healthy.

I can't find an interaction between pravastatin and levo, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. Levo should be taken on an empty stomach, then nothing to eat or drink except water for 30-60 minutes. There are people who take it at night; however, you do need to make sure there's adequate time for your stomach to empty, between your last meal and taking the med. All other medications should be separated from the levo for a couple hours, if possible.

Keep in mind that muscle and joint pain are the most common medical complaint and a symptom off many conditions so it could very likely not be related to your meds.

I recently was prescripbed pravastatin and I notice a higher number when I test after a night of fasting in my Blood Glucose. Is there a posibility that could cause the rise.

It is an injection of additional Cholesterol medication to the Pravastatin 40 mg I am taking now. I could get a plazebo or the real thing. So my question is..... Should I participate in this study even though I am not sure my palpitations have developed in something more serious? I do need the money and I am already on Pravastatin 40mg. My (74 year old) father currently is taking these medications together Pravastatin Sodium 80mg, Zetia 10 mg, Isosorbide Mnonitrate 30 mg, Metoprolol tartrate 50 mg, Plavix 75 mg, Amlodipine Besylate 10 mg, Aspirin (nsaid) 81 mg low dose The doctor told him his liver count is up 66 and the lower range is 64. Would any of these drugs or combination of these drugs make liver count increase?

I take Pravastatin, and my liver Enzymes GGT are high, but ALT and AST are in normal range, not sure why, I have heard different answers some doctors ar concern and others are not
