I have had Pancreatitis for 13Yrs. Off and on... My question is malabsorption can cause your ribs to cramp, as if you don't have enough Potassium? Can it also be caused by the Pancreas, they hurt bad and there is no warning. How if this is dietary do I absorb when I take enough Ultrase to kill a horse so to speak.
I am not trying to make you feel bad, but if you feed her people food while she has pancreatitis you COULD kill her! Dogs are not made to digest human food as we prepare it for ourselves, and the fats in the foods that we eat are horribly bad for even healthy dogs, but they are a death sentence for a dog with pancreatitis. Please contact your vet as soon as you can and tell them what happened and let them take it from there.
However, my Amylase continues to be elevated and I am concerned, as is my doctor, about chronic pancreatitis leading to pancreatic cancer. I do not drink Alcohol and have not for 20 years. Can you offer any ideas for cause of the pancreatic enzyme elevation and treatments?

Well, look at your friend's daughter. Her pancreas was damaged, which isn't necessarily pancreatitis, but look where it ended up, she was so damaged she got diabetes. But pancreatitis is a description of an inflamed pancreas, not what caused it, and you can damage your pancreas' ability to manufacture enzymes without getting pancreatitis.
You know I was thinking about my answer and it was way too brief and for this I am sorry. Chronic pancreatitis is at the moment my leading misery. I can't say for sure this is what it is but I can tell you how it went for me. I was diagnosed with Sarcoidosis in January of 2008. Please no I am also bipolar. trigger it or stimulate it on accident without going out of your way to rub it can it kill you? Like what if you have an itch on your neck right on the nerve and you rub it for a few seconds? will hope I didn't make my post way too late... pancreatitis can literally kill...Anyone that has a similar problem with their dog, please look up epi....it could very well save their life.....
Long term bulimia can result in pancreatitis, which in turn , over time can cause permanent damage to the insulin producing organ. I speak from experience ive been bulimic for 24 years, and am now diabetic due to long term pancreatitis.
