I am prone to cold sores, getting one a year every year. However, this time round all started off as normal but the usual cold sore process seemed to stop and instead i found several more tiny blisters forming. Above my lip has now gradually been covered in a layer of yellow scabbing/crust that is incredibly itchy. During that time I did not understand that cold sores could cause genital herpes to someone else. I thought the two strains were completely different and could not be interchangeable. i now know that someone who simply thinks they have cold sores can cause those nasty painful lesion filled blisters. what amazes me also is the family members i am talking about refuse to be tested. i've informed them that if taking suppressive therapy (if they see fit), avoiding any type of sexual activity when experiencing an active fever blister, and using condoms for oral sex can significantly reduce chances of spreading the virus.

This sounds more fungal (which is what balanitis is). antibiotics can very easily cause fungus normally present on the skin to overgrow and cause problems that look very much like the one that you are describing. The fact that the medicine made it better is a good sign also.
I keep getting cold sores very often lately. I guess it is due to my high levels of stress and a lot of antibiotics I took because of recurrent UTIs. My first outbreak was when I was 10 years old and then I had it every 2 years or so but now it keeps coming back every 1-2 weeks. I am pretty scared that I might spread it accidentally from my lip to my genitals. I am very careful and I always wash my hands after touching my mouth and also before and after using the toilet.
