Bupropion and blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Bupropion and blood pressure

Avatar n tn Have you checked your blood pressure since you are taking bupropion? Also the brand name Wellbutrin is preferred over the generic bupropion.
Avatar f tn Wellbutrin and decongestants are both stimulants (which would explain the agitation) and can both increase blood pressure, so the two meds together could bring on a hypertensive crisis (esp. in someone who already has high blood pressure), and this could even lead to a stroke. Ask your pharmacist about the safety of taking any particular decongestant along with your Wellbutrin.
Avatar n tn No erratic heart-rate or high blood pressure. Doesnt feel like lung issues cause on deep breaths it doesnt hurt more. Anyone else experienced this kinda of side effect with this stuff? Are these normal for starting this stuff?
Avatar f tn My husband has dementia. He takes the Bupropion in the morning along with his Aricept and Exforge (for blood pressure). He gets drowsy right after taking his pills and I think it may be the Bupropion HSL SR causing this. His neurologist told him the anti-depressant would probably make him "a little more fuzzy in his thinking". My husband is usually at his best in the morning as far as clear thinking goes.
284002 tn?1244551155 It alone could cause you to have increased blood pressure and increased anxiety. Are you seeing a psychiatrist or a regular doc? If you're going to do these drugs, do it with those who do it for a living, which are psychiatrists. I also wonder about why you went on drugs in the first place -- if this was truly in response to a family crisis, I'm wondering if anyone referred you first to a psychologist before putting you medication?
Avatar f tn Bupropion can cause pounding of heart and palpitations. It usually does not cause high blood pressure. If the high blood pressure is drug related, it will come down in 2-3 days. If the high BP persists, please get this investigated, monitored and treated. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.

Avatar n tn Both the drugs increase the blood serotonin levels which can cause very high heart rate and blood pressure leading to shock. Hence, if the two drugs are prescribed together, the doctor has to closely monitor the patient. You will need careful monitoring of BP and heart rate. Please discuss this aspect with your doctor at the earliest and voice your concerns. Take care! Avatar m tn All those blood pressure meds could bring your pressure down, as they are prescribed to do just that - but make sure you ALWAYS take your blood pressure BEFPRE you take ANY of your BP meds. Sometimes they may pull your BP too low and (with the advice of your doctor) you may end up having to hold one or more until you BP comes up. You could easily need an adjustment. You can also get a low blood sugar on metformin, if you are not eating properly - and that can cause dizziness.
Avatar n tn When I'm not anxious my blood pressure and heart rate (even 60) are normal, but when I am at the verge of a panic attack my heart rate can reach heights of 150-160, but most of the time stays between 105-135. I get anxious around doctors so I've had to wear a haltor monitor- its normal at home. My new PCP told me to try Atenolol when Im at home to see if it effects me, but my heart rate wouldn't be high, is that okay?
1305597 tn?1275340046 Another medication in its family is venlafaxine (Effexor) and it CAN cause weight gain, and large increases in blood pressure.
Avatar m tn There may be a moderate drug interaction between atenolol and bupropion due to their effect on blood pressure. It is a good idea for you to monitor your blood pressure, especially with your medical history of postural orthostatic condition. For more information, please go to: 1. Avatar f tn I also forgot to mention that in the past few weeks I have been getting short of breath for no reason (unless it is anxiety related). And the back pains are right in the center of my back and the left side of my chest. Recommendations? Suggestions?
Avatar m tn This never happened. Just 3 days later he started vomiting blood, both of his bags filled with blood, and he passed out. He was rushed to the hospital where he died, he had bled to death. His younger brother (his best friend) can still not sleep in the bedroom they shared, and his sobbings at night still wake his mother. He watched his father suffer and die, and now his brother.
Avatar f tn I trust my doctor and he is the one that knows everything I take (blood pressure med, etc.). I take the Wellbutrin in the morning and the Elavil at night. I was just concerned about taking two antidepressants. I thought they all worked the same. I did not know that each antidepressant worked on something different, so your comments were most helpful. Thank you very much.
Avatar n tn About 2 hours later so much sugar has been put into storage that there is not enough left in the blood, and you get a low-blood-sugar emergency. Symptoms such as weakness and mental fog begin. 4. The body responds to the emergency by dumping adrenaline into the system. More symptoms follow from the high adrenaline, such as racing heart, anxiety, etc., etc., etc.. 5.
Avatar m tn Dear friend, Paxil take its full effect at the second week of been taken. All this symptoms you're feeling are "normal" that means your body is getting used to it. Anyway, Paxil use to higher your blood pressure and hearth beat, so It will be good for you to go on a routine medical check for your pressure and heath rate in case of some tachycardia or hypertension, if so, you will have to take some light meds to control this secondary effect of paxil.
Avatar m tn Other side effects include sleep difficulties and increase in blood pressure. ● Mirtazapine (Remeron) – Another good anti-depressant. It also seems to work as well as SSRIs. With respect to its sexual profile, in one large study about one quarter of all patients taking Mirtazapine experienced sexual side effects. Two other drawbacks to this medicine are that it causes drowsiness and weight gain. ● Duloxetine (Cymbalta) – This is a newer medication used to treat depression.
365714 tn?1292202708 You have taken much precautions and modified your life style. Have you checked your blood sugar levels and also blood pressure. Are you on any medication. Smoking or chewing tobacco can affect saliva production and aggravate dry mouth. Continuously breathing with your mouth open due to nasal obstruction can also contribute to the problem. Pls continue to drink more liquids and have good ventilation. You can visit a neurophysician once. Keep updating. Take care.
Avatar n tn I switched from Lexapro to Wellbutrin because of weight gain and high blood pressure and have had wonderful results. Blood pressure is normal again and I have lost weight. Hopefully this medication will work for you too..
Avatar f tn I have also tried Paxil, Celexa and Zoloft and they all made me feel lethargic, sleepy and in the mood for nothing. Yes, bupropion makes it hard for me to sleep and makes me slightly edgy, but I get the energy and the feelings of motivation. it's really different for everybody. I don't get the tremors etc, though.
Avatar f tn I do go to him every month and have a check up so he can check my blood pressure...it is always low anyways. But he does keep a close eye on me. Also, if I have something stressfull happen in my life, I drop the phenterimine for a couple of days to prevent an anxidy attack. Phenteramine does make you anxious,,, more so than the adderall or Concerta. I also take a low dose of Topamax to help with the weightloss.
Avatar n tn But, I am seriously contemplating asking my MD to prescribe Topamax for me for weight loss. I think maybe my blood pressure will also decrease, and I am sure my feet and joints won't hurt anymore if I can get this extra 60 lbs off me. As I said, I am 66 years young, and am interested if any other young seniors are in my shoes. Any comments for the older group will be greatly appreciated.

Avatar f tn The first study showed that the half-life of hydroxybupropion was significantly longer in 8 patients with alcoholic liver disease than in 8 healthy volunteers (32±14 hours versus 21±5 hours, respectively). Although not statistically significant, the AUCs for bupropion and hydroxybupropion were more variable and tended to be greater (by 53% to 57%) in patients with alcoholic liver disease. The differences in half-life for bupropion and the other metabolites in the 2 patient groups were minimal.
Avatar m tn my cholesterol is under control and at decent levels My blood pressure was borderline high in the past and I have been taking quinapril for a while now. (max dose). My blood pressure was better at ~ 120/90. I also take bupropion xl and was taking olanzipine. I have stopped the olanzapine, after long term use. Coming off the olanzapine, I have had more anxiety and more emotion, and have not slept very well. After stopping olanzapine, my BP was checked and was now high again at 148/110.
Avatar n tn So, am I being difficult or is she being overly cautious. I take Diovan and Amlodipine for blood pressure and Savella and 800 mg. Ibuprophen 3 times a day for arthritis, inflammation and disc disease. I am also on Norco twice a day for pain. I do have trouble sleeping but also have extremely cold hands and feet and some hair thinning issues. I have no heart palpitations or shakiness issues. So is my TSH too suppressed or not?
242532 tn?1269553979 Most of our blog posts talk about the habits, challenges and symptoms of emotional eating and how they affect various aspects of our lives. It's easy for emotional eaters to relate to the pain and guilt that comes with overeating, and easy to forget about picturing yourself actually recovering from the grasp of emotional eating. Here's how a Shrink Yourself member describes her success after about one year of working the Program. I've lost 64 pounds. Woo hoo!
Avatar m tn 2 I started some meds over the past 2 years for a few issues such as increasing sugar level and blood pressure 150/86. I am 56 years old, 225lb, 6ft medium build, generally healthy. Medicines I started in the past 2 years are (pantoprazol, ramipril, metformin, bupropion, sertraline). Ultrasound shows kidneys normal, good blood flow, except bladder still 280cc after emptying from 560cc.
Avatar dr m tn In many cases, taking a good history and asking some pointed questions can solve a medical problem without resorting to medications. For example, I saw a man in his late 30’s who came to see me with 3 days of left ear sound distortion and reverberation with mild fullness. He had no other problems, including hearing loss. His exam was completely normal.
