Common Questions and Answers about Buprenorphine vs tramadol

suboxone

Avatar n tn does anyone know how long i have to stop taking the deydrocodeine and tramadol for before i can start taking the buprenorphine again please.
Avatar f tn Tramadol may cause life-threatening addiction and withdrawal symptoms in a newborn.
Avatar f tn Suboxone is the brand name for a medication consisting of buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine is a thebaine derivative with powerful analgesia approximately 20-40x more potent than morphine. Buprenorphine is a partial agonist and antagonist of the opioid receptors in the central nervous system which means that when its molecule binds to a receptor, it will transduce only a partial response in contrast to a full agonist such as morphine.
Avatar f tn Sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I've found that the Tramadol only dulls the pain; not make it subside. Outside of opiates (which are highly addictive) i'm not sure there is anything that will make it cease. Has the doc. done an MRI for you to rule out MS? Also, getting a Lyme test is a good idea. There are different methods used to treat either of these, should it be your dx. If all testing turns out well, then they will probably dx you with FMS.
Avatar f tn Possibly but not probably. Buprenorphine would work on the opiate side of things, but not on the antidepressant properties of Tramadol. Plus, most doctors don't recognize the abuse potential of Tramadol. I believe most every doctor would suggest a Tramadol taper over a Suboxone detox.
Avatar m tn The problem with buprenorphine, whether it's pure, in suboxone, or whatever, is that it's only a PARTIAL opoid agonist. That means that it is limited in its effect. Based on the years of research they did with the stuf before it got approvedf, if you're using over 40mg of methadone, it's real unlikely that any ampunt of buprenorphine is going to keep you out of withdrawal.
Avatar f tn Buprenorphine, marketed under the brand name Suboxone, was developed as a safer alternative for treating people addicted to heroin and painkillers compared to methadone. It was also designed to be resistant to abuse, but it hasn't turned out that way.
179856 tn?1333547362 Anagnostou and colleagues evaluate HCV treatment outcomes among IV drug users receiving opioid substitution treatment with methadone or buprenorphine at 4 government-funded clinics between 2002 and 2008. The analysis involved 93 IV drug users with HCV infection who started combination treatment with pegylated interferon alfa-2a or -2b and ribavirin while on methadone or buprenorphine. Forty-six (48.4%) patients were on methadone, and 49 (51.6%) were on buprenorphine. Of the total, 77 (82.
Avatar n tn s) the beginniers opiate), so going voer to suboxone may be too strong of a switch, sadly it would be a whole lot less dangerous if they switched from tramadol to vicodin which is still alot less potent than suboxone. buprenorphine is roughly 25-40% stronger than morphine, so its definitely a potent opioid.
621290 tn?1226720261 I get some real nasty headaches when I withdrawal from Tramadol. That's one of the worst parts for me. I don't know if you took any Tramadol, but if you did, that could very well be part of it. I just really hope you come down to 2-4 mg of sub per day. I worry a little about you. You can do it, stay strong.
Avatar f tn The flip side of all of this is that tolerance reaches a maximum at about 4 mg of buprenorphine, and further increase in dose of buprenorphine does not cause substantial increase in tolerance. Tolerance and withdrawal are two sides of the same coin; the lack of withdrawal going from 32 to 8 mg of buprenorphine is consistent with no significant change in tolerance across that range. So in my opinion, being on 32 vs 4 mg of Suboxone doesn't raise your tolerance.
Avatar m tn They must go through a short course to become a Certified Buprenorphine Provider. Upon completing they are issued a seperate DEA # that allows them to prescribe sub. This number is only used in the writing of buprenorphine scripts. Upon completion, for their first year I believe they can only have a load of 30 patients that they can prescribe to. After that year is up, they can prescribe up to 100 patients. This is why Suboxone clinics/docs have such long waiting lists.
Avatar f tn Okay, I'll just go ahead and ask...even though I p.m.d flmagi about sub and she answered me so eloquently (thanks magi)I shouldn't have a question but this is one I don't get. I am ignorant. Yep, that's me. But I have to ask; What's the difference? Take Sub or take Vic's? What's the difference? I don't get it....is the difference you take just one Sub vs 10 vic's in a day? One drug for another...? My name is Newgirl and I'm ignorant...
Avatar m tn I see many people who follow a certain pattern-- they are addicted to opioids and lose everything, then they go on buprenorphine and get their lives back.... at some point they try to stop buprenorphine, and blame buprenorphine for their opioid dependence-- even though the buprenorphine was the only thing that saved them. They then struggle to stop buprenorphine, going back to their original drugs of choice to treat the withdrawal from buprenorphine! Crazy...
Avatar n tn t know anything about Sub, except it is suppose to be three times as strong as Tramadol. And since you are on Tramadol now, I say stay on that and taper off that. Why keep bouncing back and forth from one to the other? It will only bring you pain and discomfort.
403399 tn?1201833095 The only reason why Tramadol (Ultracet, Ultram, etc.) is not considered a narcotic is because at the moment it is unscheduled in the USA and pretty much everywhere else. It is fairly new being researched and first put on the market in the 90's.
Avatar m tn So my question is, I know buprenorphine is used to help get people off other opioids, can I get buprenorphine to get off Tramadol which is a synthetic opioid? If not buprenorphine, is there anything else that exists that keep withdrawls in check while coming off of Tramadol?
Avatar m tn I am sick and tired of taking tramadol... I have been on them for years. I'm almost out of them, I have 9 left to be exact. And cannot get ten filled again until the 23/rd of this month. I so would love to kick this bad habit.. Someone please help...
230262 tn?1316645934 I don't know where you get the information that Buprenorphine doesn't work for pain, but I'm afraid that isn't true. In fact, the first mainstream use for Buprenorphine was in labor delivery. It's an extremely potent analgesic and is much stronger milligram for milligram than morphine. Also, ANY doctor can prescribe Suboxone OR Subutex for pain, not just those that have special opiate dependence DEA numbers. For many people, Buprenorphine provide substantial pain relief.
Avatar f tn Suboxone contains buprenorphine, an opiate that is a partial agonist at the receptor and that has been around for over 30 years. If you read any 'goodman and gilman' (the bible of pharmacology) you will read that 'buprenorphine is less addictive than other opiates because of the partial agonist effects'. But for anyone addicted to opiates, even codeine is very addictive!
Avatar n tn Vicodin is stronger then Tramadol. I think if you get put on tramadol you will be in alot more pain. My father inlaw takes it and it does nothing for him. I took it and it did nothing for me. Vicodin on the other hand did help my pain alittle. I would try to talk him into not doing it, ask him what is the main reason for changing your meds. I hate to say it but if you get them changed like that you will be in alot more pain. This is just my option. Tramadol did nothing for me.
Avatar n tn i have taken vicodin for about 10 years now. I have never increased the dosage or abuse the med. my dr recently put me on tramadol which i'll try anything. i am to take 2 tramadol twice daily or as needed along with 800 mg ibuprofen twice daily. i have not found any resolve with this medication (i have been on it 2 weeks). i also have not had any typical withdrawl symptoms from stopping the vicodin. i have degeneration of my t3 and t4 vertebre and spinal rotation and of course subluxation.
Avatar f tn Tramadol is just as addicting and worse to come off of .I would look into non narcotic aleratives . ...
Avatar f tn ultracet has acetominophen (tylenol) in them, and the tramadol doesnt. They can come in varying dosages. Why is he taking them? Does he want to quit? Tram is a dangerous drug to take and to stop, you have to taper down slowly or you could have seizures. You can have seizures from takign too many as well. How long has he been on them?
Avatar f tn Switching from Suboxone to Belbuca shouldn't be a problem imo because they have the same opioid in them - buprenorphine - your Dr. Would know this too. The Belbuca, however doesn't contain naloxone which is what's suppose to keep you from wanting to abuse the drug or get high - which might be a concern for you? Honestly the Dr.
Avatar f tn Vicodin is a higher pain killer than tramadol. Tramadol to me is no different to tylenol, then i have some friends that are addicted to it. I am coming off of vicodin and i dont sugest anyone take it for any periods of time. I dont know your story but if possible i would stray from vicodin. LIke i said i have used them both and vicodin gave the the pain relief and the "high" i was looking for tramadol didnt even touch the pain.
