Buprenorphine veterinary use

Common Questions and Answers about Buprenorphine veterinary use

suboxone

Avatar n tn Let's say you did do it. There will be two possible effects: 1. There will be no benefit to injecting it as the naloxone will block out the buprenorphine just as fast and the buprenorphine could start working. Which there isn't much if any euphoria from buprenorphine anway - so I don't see the point in the first place. 2. If you already have a high level of buprenorphine or any other opiate already in action - you will go into precipitated withdrawal from the naloxone.
Avatar f tn MommaQ, you have a tough situation on your hands. The standard of care for opioid dependent pregnant women is to use methadone or buprenorphine (Suboxone). BUT I would NOT recommend either in your case, as the dose of opioid you are taking is MUCH lower than the effects of buprenorphine. In fact, taking Suboxone would be like taking 15 or more Vicodin (hydrocodone) tablets per day!
Avatar n tn This means that it is not known whether buprenorphine and naloxone will be harmful to an unborn baby. Use of buprenorphine and naloxone during pregnancy may cause withdrawal symptoms in a newborn baby. Do not take buprenorphine and naloxone if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. Contrary to what you may have heard methadone is not safe during pregnancy, it is actually more dangerous to a baby than heroin. I am not sure why doctors prescribe it but they shouldn't.
Avatar f tn I am in medical hospital and they want me to detox off methadone with help of buprenorphine does anyone know about this drug or used it . I am scared and need feedback ASAP.
Avatar m tn Can anyone help me with some knowledge of this medication????? I have a relative who's suffered badly for years and tried every clinic and therapy and medication and nothing helped till now. He's lately been prescribed this buprenorphine and he swears it's just about given him his life back. My question is it a narcotic, therefore addictive. Does it have the nasty side effects of oxy or other pain meds.
199177 tn?1490498534 Subutex® is a single entity buprenorphine product and Suboxone® is a combination product with buprenorphine and naloxone in a 4:1 ratio, respectively. After reviewing all the available data and receiving a schedule III recommendation from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the DEA placed buprenorphine and all products containing buprenorphine into schedule III in 2002. Since 2003, diversion, trafficking and abuse of buprenorphine have become more common in the United States.
Avatar f tn As for safety, Buprenorphine was a favorite for control of pain during labor until the epidural became more commonly used; I have a number of papers from studies of the use of Suboxone or buprenorphine during pregnancy, breast-feeding, and delivery, and in all of them buprenorphine comes out looking better than agonists such as methadone. As far as comments like 'Sub caused me to have more pain'-- that is simply silly.
Avatar f tn Eagle is correct, Cathy-- buprenorphine, Suboxone, and Subutex are all essentially identical. Buprenorphine has been around for 30 years; it used to be sold under the brand 'temgesic' in liquid form before being made as Suboxone, which is easier to dose. Buprenorphine is used for pain, mostly in Europe-- a skin patch in the UK called 'buTrans' releases 5-20 micrograms of bupe per hour through the skin. Six years ago, in 2003, Suboxone became available in the US.
Avatar f tn It is hard to know for sure, though, whether I am correct, or whether buprenorphine (the active part of Suboxone) lessens the total misery to some extent. We don't know how bad off you would be if you had not take Suboxone. The general belief of the treatment industry seems to be that buprenorphine does lessen the severity of withdrawal, but I am not convinced that it does that. I am an advocate of using buprenorphine for longer periods of time than for simple detox.
179856 tn?1333547362 This won't apply to many people on here but it's been asked a lot and hopefully someone looking can find this study. IV Drugs Users on Opioid Substitution Respond to Antiviral Treatment for HCV: Presented at DDW By Charlene Laino NEW ORLEANS -- May 11, 2010 -- Intravenous (IV) drug users who are on opioid substitution and infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) can be successfully treated with antiviral therapy, researchers reported here at Digestive Disease Week (DDW) 2010.
1506051 tn?1317731817 I tried many different ways to get off heroin rehab/straight cold turkey detox etc but eventually got put on a buprenorphine Maintainance program by my doctor and local drug team so that I could sort my life out first. This worked for me to get off the heroin. I managed to move to a new city and put my self through university. I graduated this year and I am planning to get married to my fiancée next year. But, I am still taking the buprenorphine.
Avatar n tn I just found out (not by being told) that my boyfriend has a buprenorphine addiction. I don't know exactly what that means but have researched and gathered that he is addicted to opioids and this is a drug that takes it place? Is this a drug that you take to wean yourself off? And if so, how long do you take it?
Avatar n tn my kitten keeps trying to use the bathroom but cannot. and he keeps meowing and walks funny. he is a few months old. what's happening? is it constipation?
414508 tn?1222627690 Buprenorphine is classified by FDA as a Pregnancy Category C drug. Data from controlled studies on the use of buprenorphine in pregnant women are needed. The available evidence does not show any causal adverse effects on pregnancy or neonatal outcomes from buprenorphine treatment, but this evidence is from case series not from controlled studies." "Methadone is currently the standard of care in the United States for the treatment of heroin addiction in pregnant women.
306867 tn?1299249709 As I have mentioned before, I do use Suboxone to treat chronic pain-- I have had more and more area pain clinics refer patients to me, asking that I help convert the patients who are struggling with opiates to Suboxone (i.e. the patients who run out early every month; who are always 'losing' their meds and asking for more, etc).
Avatar m tn Subutex, which is composed of only buprenorphine, and Suboxone, which is a combination of Buprenorphine and Naloxone. It's my understanding that a physician requires even more education when ordering either of these drugs than the usual opiate education. The medical documentation required is even more stringent. Indeed it's now even more difficult to find a physician that will order Buprenorphine. The DEA is breathing down their necks.
Avatar f tn Also like methadone, buprenorphine blocks the effects of heroin by binding to the same opiate receptors as heroin; consequently, opiate addicts who use buprenorphine are not able to get a high from heroin. Buprenorphine also has a "ceiling effect" whereby increased doses of the drug do not produce increased effects after a certain point, or ceiling. In fact, high doses of the drug can actually precipitate withdrawal symptoms in opiate addicted individuals.
372880 tn?1332879487 Opiates do little to 'mess up the brain's neurochemistry'-- the primary sequela from addiction are conditioned pathways associated with memories, emotions, impulses... during tolerance the opiate receptors become 'down-regulated', but that effect returns to normal after opiates are discontinued and tolerance returns to normal.
Avatar m tn Subutex is 100% Buprenorphine while suboxone is Bup plus Naloxone which is an opiate blocker. Some detoxes use Subutex to start to avoid severe withdrawl symptoms which can come on if suboxone is taken too early before severe withdrawls start. The reason Subutex is not widely used in the U.S. is it is easily abused. Subutex is widely abused and replaced heroin for many addicts in Europe. Take the option out of your hands....
Avatar f tn There has never been much research done on subs, for addiction recovery and especially cross medication research. There is more research on buprenorphine as a pain reliever in low dose for short term use. You won't find the answer to your question, if you do, it will be the effect the combo had on the person who tried it. I have used subs with lithium only. There seems to be no negative effect. I tapered off it as soon as the lithium was working good enough.
