suboxone

Avatar n tn This means that it is not known whether buprenorphine and naloxone will be harmful to an unborn baby. Use of buprenorphine and naloxone during pregnancy may cause withdrawal symptoms in a newborn baby. Do not take buprenorphine and naloxone if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. Contrary to what you may have heard methadone is not safe during pregnancy, it is actually more dangerous to a baby than heroin. I am not sure why doctors prescribe it but they shouldn't.
Avatar n tn Let's say you did do it. There will be two possible effects: 1. There will be no benefit to injecting it as the naloxone will block out the buprenorphine just as fast and the buprenorphine could start working. Which there isn't much if any euphoria from buprenorphine anway - so I don't see the point in the first place. 2. If you already have a high level of buprenorphine or any other opiate already in action - you will go into precipitated withdrawal from the naloxone.
Avatar f tn MommaQ, you have a tough situation on your hands. The standard of care for opioid dependent pregnant women is to use methadone or buprenorphine (Suboxone). BUT I would NOT recommend either in your case, as the dose of opioid you are taking is MUCH lower than the effects of buprenorphine. In fact, taking Suboxone would be like taking 15 or more Vicodin (hydrocodone) tablets per day!
Avatar f tn in liquid form before being made as Suboxone, which is easier to dose. Buprenorphine is used for pain, mostly in Europe-- a skin patch in the UK called 'buTrans' releases 5-20 micrograms of bupe per hour through the skin. Six years ago, in 2003, Suboxone became available in the US.
Avatar m tn However, some cases occurred in patients who denied intravenous use and were on conventional sublingual doses. In most cases, the pattern of serum enzyme elevations was hepatocellular and the presentation resembled acute toxic hepatic necrosis. Immunoallergic features (fever, rash and eosinophilia) were not present, nor were autoantibodies detected.
199177 tn?1490498534 Buprenorphine was first marketed in the United States in 1985 as a schedule V narcotic analgesic. Until recently, the only available buprenorphine product in the United States has been a low-dose (0.3 mg/ml) injectable formulation under the brand name, Buprenex®. Diversion, trafficking and abuse of other buprenorphine products have occurred in Europe and other areas of the world.
Avatar m tn Can anyone help me with some knowledge of this medication????? I have a relative who's suffered badly for years and tried every clinic and therapy and medication and nothing helped till now. He's lately been prescribed this buprenorphine and he swears it's just about given him his life back. My question is it a narcotic, therefore addictive. Does it have the nasty side effects of oxy or other pain meds.
717440 tn?1292743742 It can be helpful to use as a tool for detox .I know they OKed it for use in Canada and there was a girl on here that said she could have used the sub but she ended up using a different method I am not use which province she was in .
Avatar f tn He said he doesnt want people on it long term because of how hard it is to come off, but hew wants the ease into withdrawals to be easier and if the person needs more time and the drops are too severe then he will slow it down and he uses suboxone for every person who comes in for thier opiate addictions.
Avatar n tn Golden, as you can see it is used for pain mangment I am not telling you to go on it but they do use in I have many other atricales on its use for pain let me know if you want to see them I will pm them to you Dr. Stephen F. Grinstead, LMFT, ACRPS, CADC-II There is now an effective medication for both opiate addiction treatment and/or maintenance pain management that is FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved.
Avatar f tn It is hard to know for sure, though, whether I am correct, or whether buprenorphine (the active part of Suboxone) lessens the total misery to some extent. We don't know how bad off you would be if you had not take Suboxone. The general belief of the treatment industry seems to be that buprenorphine does lessen the severity of withdrawal, but I am not convinced that it does that. I am an advocate of using buprenorphine for longer periods of time than for simple detox.

2046312 tn?1360379600 The interaction appears to be dependent, in part, on the route of administration of buprenorphine. When administered transdermally, buprenorphine peak plasma concentration (Cmax) and systemic exposure (AUC) were not significantly affected by ketoconazole, a potent CYP450 3A4 inhibitor.
Avatar f tn if you get the tiny germ of an idea about using, the idea is quickly beaten down by realizing that even if you did use, it would have no effect. In that way, the craving reduction is really a ‘psychological’ thing, not a ‘chemical’ thing—as is the case with buprenorphine. If you are maintaining sobriety, I would be very reluctant to go on buprenorphine—unless the cravings were really bothering you so much that you couldn’t stand it.
1053234 tn?1263457730 Hi Read the comments to the chart and when a MD says this, " by Jeffrey T Junig, MD PhD, Dec 25, 2008 11:34PM No-- incorrect. Sorry, but this is an example of the misinformation about buprenorphine that is so common in the internet. Buprenorphine and Suboxone have a 'ceiling effect' at about 2 mg; you cannot extrapolate in a straight line, because it does NOT have linear pharmacodynamics. There are real issues to discuss, but only when the facts are known.
414508 tn?1222627690 Buprenorphine is classified by FDA as a Pregnancy Category C drug. Data from controlled studies on the use of buprenorphine in pregnant women are needed. The available evidence does not show any causal adverse effects on pregnancy or neonatal outcomes from buprenorphine treatment, but this evidence is from case series not from controlled studies." "Methadone is currently the standard of care in the United States for the treatment of heroin addiction in pregnant women.
Avatar n tn Since no one else has responded, let me add whatever I can to help. Yes, indeed, Buprenorphine (usually sold in the form of Suboxone) is what is called a partial agonist opioid that replaces other addictive (agonist) opioids such as vicodin (hydrocodone), etc. It is used as a tool to help someone get off opioids, as it completely takes away withdrawals but doesn't work the same way as the other opioids. In other words, it makes you feel normal.
306867 tn?1299249709 I understand the reason for this, but is it prescribed differently if your taking it to manage pain now ? I take about 1mg in the morning and can get about 5 hours of work done. About 12-1 in the afternoon, I must lay down with a heat pack, and the rest of my day is pretty much wasted. Do you think it would be better to split my dose and take it twice or should my one dose be upped so it gets me through the day ?
Avatar m tn Subutex, which is composed of only buprenorphine, and Suboxone, which is a combination of Buprenorphine and Naloxone. It's my understanding that a physician requires even more education when ordering either of these drugs than the usual opiate education. The medical documentation required is even more stringent. Indeed it's now even more difficult to find a physician that will order Buprenorphine. The DEA is breathing down their necks.
