Avatar m tn When I saw my pain management consultant a few months ago he put me on Buprenorphine Transdermal Patches, 10mg. ! patch to be put on for 7 days. This is in addition to the Oxycontin. The patch has recently been increased to 20mg. I have recently started reducing the Oxycontin in the view of coming off it totally. I have so far reduced it by 10mg. My Dr hase prescibed me Oxynorm 5mg, once a day, incase I experience withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn While I was asleep last night someone put the bupronep patch on my arm I had told them I wanted to just detox from the methadone not use the patch. This morning a nurse took the patch off my arm.
Avatar f tn The only 7 day patch I know of is the Butrans patch. Buprenorphine (butrans) is Suboxone. It's normally used for addiction recovery but it looks like they're using it in low doses for pain management in the patch. This is what I found on it from Wikipedia. "Available buprenorphine formulations include a 5, 10 and 20 mcg per hour, 7-day patch, marketed as Butrans in the U.S.A.
Avatar m tn No, Temgesic is way, way weaker than sub. One sub is equal to 40 or 20 Temgesic ( temgesic is .2 or .4 MG Buprenorphine a sub is 8 MG) Also Temgesic is just Buprenorphine, Suboxone is Buprenorphine and Naloxone, however the naloxone doesn't really do anything in subs so idk why they even put it in there.
Avatar n tn Started my taper off these two back last July and am still suffering so much. I cut pain patch in 4 pieces and put on the 1/4 patch piece every 7-10 days. Patch works longer than 7, days just so you know. Docs say change every 7 days but keep it on longer. Maybe 10 days plus. I am down to tiny dosage and am still withdrawing and it is now March- 9 friggin months trying to get off this stuff myself. It is pure hell!! Subutex/buprenorphine is hell to get off of.
Avatar m tn I talked to my family doctor and she said that the only thing she could do for me was to prescribe something called a Butran transdermal patch which releases a small amount of buprenorphine over a period of seven days and then you put on a new patch. Since I have medical assistance the Butran needed a prior approval. Well it came back denied and to top it all off they suggested that I try either morphine XR, fentanyl, methadone and soemthine else I can't remember!
Avatar m tn Norspam is known in the states as buprenorphine. Buprenorphine will work to stop withdrawals. It does so because it's an extremely powerful opiate. Most of us here would consider it a 'last resort' for opiate dependence and addiction. It has a history of being extremely hard to get off of. In fact, if you can't maintain a taper schedule it can be nearly impossible to stop using. People here have stopped while on high doses but it's the exception not the rule.
Avatar f tn Every doc I've asked for the Butrans patch says no because they don;t believe me when I tell them they do not have the special training and license to prescribe as with Suboxone. Even the pain specialist I saw believed he would have to have the "special: license". How can I convince them? They all (6 docs) refuse to read the documentation I'd brought to the appointment. Or how do I find a doctor who will prescribe buprenorphine for my chronic, neuropathic pain.
Avatar f tn in liquid form before being made as Suboxone, which is easier to dose. Buprenorphine is used for pain, mostly in Europe-- a skin patch in the UK called 'buTrans' releases 5-20 micrograms of bupe per hour through the skin. Six years ago, in 2003, Suboxone became available in the US.
Avatar f tn dose of buprenorphine. Buprenorphine is used to treat pain in microgram doses; the BuTrans patch is used in the UK to treat pain, and it releases buprenorphine at a rate of 5-20 MICROGRAMS per hour! One tablet of Suboxone containes 8000 micrograms! So whether a person is taking one, two, three, or more tabs of Suboxone per day, he is taking a very large dose of buprenorphine--- a dose large enough to ascertain that he is up on the 'ceiling' of the dose/response curve.
1476285 tn?1287337784 I am interested in info from anyone doing the new 3-drug regime w/ interferon, ribavirin and telaprevir who are also taking suboxone. I am currently on suboxone: 3/5's to 1/2 tab per day. I wasn't put on it for drug abuse but I was on pain meds (lortab & fentenayl patch) for chronic pain. I went on suboxone to get off the pain mgmt regime.
1087566 tn?1282448730 I have had great sucess with the Fentanyl Patch. I have used it for about a year now and it gives me around the clock relief for 48-72 hrs. You may want to do some research on the Patch or chat with your Doctor about it. I also take Oxycodone for breakthrough. Give it some thought.
Avatar f tn Been on methadone 40mgs daily . Switched to Butrans 20mcg patch.
Avatar m tn I suffer from severe endometriosis and have been taking 30/500 cocodamol 10 plus a day and tramadol 50mg 8 a day together for 18 months plus and have now been put on BuTrans Transdermal patch Buprenorphine 5mg/hr per week, i put one on monday at 5.30 and now its 8pm thursday and have had no relief what so ever i've applied a second patch at 6.
Avatar m tn I was given a script for a pain patch starting with the letter b and 10 mg. It is at the pharmacy right now but wondering what it was.
Avatar f tn I have experienced an itchy rash just in the area of the patch of the 5 microgram/hour Buprenorphine (BuTrans). The "rashes" were bearable for the first 3 weeks. One patch stays stuck on for a week. The pain management consultant advised a much higher dose, but with my medical history of reactions to medications, my doctor has started me on the lowest dose to see if I will be OK with it. - obviously not.
1311604 tn?1273682029 since buprenorphine, active ingredient in Subutex, acts to treat opiate addiction, it is also potent habit forming drug. Very often it causes drug dependence. It has opioid agonist effects, in order to effect opioid receptors in different way. Buprenorphine can be abused, specially if there is no physical dependence. There is also another medicine called Suboxone. It is combination of naloxone and buprenorphine. It’s purpose is to decrease the likelihood of diversion and abuse.
Avatar m tn I started with 25 mg every 72 hrs and then went to 25 every 48 hrs. I was getting worse about 4 months into the 25 mg patch and my pain doctor increased me to 50 mg every 48 hrs and told me that my body just got to a tolerance and we needed to go up. About 2 months into being on 50 mg I just couldnt ever figure out why i felt so weird all the time especially the second day after putting a patch on.
1405767 tn?1282634598 The patients were enrolled in a 2-week run-in phase, during which time they converted to transdermal buprenorphine or a placebo patch. Rescue analgesia with buprenorphine sublingual tablets 0.2 mg was allowed as needed. The researchers defined response as a mean pain intensity reduction of 5 points on a 10-point scale and a mean daily need for two or fewer buprenorphine sublingual tablets.
Avatar m tn Can anyone help me with some knowledge of this medication????? I have a relative who's suffered badly for years and tried every clinic and therapy and medication and nothing helped till now. He's lately been prescribed this buprenorphine and he swears it's just about given him his life back. My question is it a narcotic, therefore addictive. Does it have the nasty side effects of oxy or other pain meds.
Avatar f tn If the long-acting meds are working well, you may not even need anything else. Since the only active ingredient in the Butrans patch is buprenorphine and it does not contain naloxone (like Suboxone does), breakthrough meds will still be effective. That is wonderful news that the patch is working so well for you! Hope it stays that way!
Avatar n tn t work on chronic pain. So as much as I regret it I had to go back to the Duragesic patch/ with vicodin 10/500 for break through pain. The Suboxone what like a charm for withdraw no problem at all. Question is did I do the right thing ? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks foreverinpain 365.
