Buprenorphine dosing

Common Questions and Answers about Buprenorphine dosing

suboxone

Avatar n tn I cannot find the exact information but from what I remember seeing in the dosing information on suboxone - they do not exactly know the effects to the fetus and therefore it is not suggested to be taken during pregnancy. I believe subutex is suggested instead of suboxone. Best bet is to talk to your doctor. Really it's is imperative your obgyn knows what's going on.

Avatar m tn com Suboxone contains Buprenorphine and naloxone, Subutex only has Buprenorphine. The Naloxone is added to the Bup so people don't try to shoot it up (it's harmless if swallowed for the majority of the population). Most doctors prefer to prescribe Suboxone for this reason. Oh, Bup is a partial opiod agonist and naloxone is the stuff they give people who've OD to clear opiods out of the system (instant wd when given IV).
306867 tn?1299249709 As I have mentioned before, I do use Suboxone to treat chronic pain-- I have had more and more area pain clinics refer patients to me, asking that I help convert the patients who are struggling with opiates to Suboxone (i.e. the patients who run out early every month; who are always 'losing' their meds and asking for more, etc).
536882 tn?1225512859 As an aside, the original instructions on the use of buprenorphine call for dosing ONCE per day; I consider once per day dosing to be one of the most important components of treatment with Suboxone. I also have never found need to exceed 16 mg per day (again, the maximum dose recommended in the class), including in patients changing from doses of oxycodone greater than 600 mg per day. The 'ceiling effect' of buprenorphine makes the potencies of all doses greater than 2-4 mg equal.
Avatar f tn I really hate when sub or methadone is scored from the street it leves us with messes like this one where not aloud to discuss dosing where not doctors but for sub and methadone tyou have to taper off slowly to avoid or at lest minimize withdrawals thats about all im aloud to say and stay in the guidelines ......
Avatar n tn I can certainly understand your frustration as even a lot of physicians dont really understand Treatment using Buprenorphine (Suboxone and Subutex) Ive had to spend the last 3 years researching this medicine to be able to understand it... docs only have to take an 8 hour online course to prescribe. Im working flights this afternoon, but just wanted to post now to let you know I'll be back. I have all kinds of info I can give you, and will be back later this evening after I get off work.
Avatar f tn I am in medical hospital and they want me to detox off methadone with help of buprenorphine does anyone know about this drug or used it . I am scared and need feedback ASAP.
Avatar m tn Can anyone help me with some knowledge of this medication????? I have a relative who's suffered badly for years and tried every clinic and therapy and medication and nothing helped till now. He's lately been prescribed this buprenorphine and he swears it's just about given him his life back. My question is it a narcotic, therefore addictive. Does it have the nasty side effects of oxy or other pain meds.
3177469 tn?1344454268 Pharmacokinetic profiles of buprenorphine, norbuprenorphine and naloxone were measured over the 24-hour dosing interval on Day –1 (buprenorphine/naloxone alone, reference) and Day 7 of telaprevir co-administration (test). Geometric least squares mean ratios and associated 90% confidence intervals of treatment ratios (test/reference) were calculated using log-transformed pharmacokinetic parameters. Opioid withdrawal symptoms were evaluated throughout the study (questionnaires and pupillometry).
Avatar n tn Good advice already. Realize that buprenorphine is a 'microgram med'- it traditionally was used for pain, in IV doses of 25-50 MICROgrams. One Suboxone tablet contains 8000 micrograms! As Sukie says (!), the best approach is a slow taper-- but that gets difficult below a quarter of a tablet, as it is hard to keep splitting such a small dose. Unfortunately a quarter tab-- 2 mg-- is still 2000 micrograms, a very large amount of buprenorphine.
742791 tn?1232585172 Try eating an altoid, stronger the better, right before the Sub dose. Some people also suck on an ice cube for a few minutes before dosing. It might take some of the bad taste away. Also, our resident expert Dr. Junig suggests taking Sub this way....
199177 tn?1490498534 Subutex® is a single entity buprenorphine product and Suboxone® is a combination product with buprenorphine and naloxone in a 4:1 ratio, respectively. After reviewing all the available data and receiving a schedule III recommendation from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the DEA placed buprenorphine and all products containing buprenorphine into schedule III in 2002. Since 2003, diversion, trafficking and abuse of buprenorphine have become more common in the United States.
Avatar n tn Suboxone contains a combination of buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine is an opioid medication. Buprenorphine is similar to other opioids such as morphine, codeine, and heroin however, it produces less euphoric ("high") effects and therefore may be easier to stop taking. Naloxone blocks the effects of opioids such as morphine, codeine, and heroin.
Avatar f tn I was too scared to reduce for a while but I have gradually been tapering and am back now down to 2mg daily (for 3 weeks) and feel fine. If I am late dosing, I start to feel it within an hour or so, but this may be psychological in part. I tried to jump at 2mg last week but felt so rotten within 2 days that I was back at the docs and back on 2mg (I had the worst shivers / hot flushes and bad stomach and left work early). My aim is to reduce by 0.
Avatar f tn Thanks Jaybay! I did know about the actions and uses of buprenorphine and .... and the fact that Suboxone has the additional naloxone component to prevent injection abuse. I didn't know that Fentanyl could "knock bupe right off its pins." You're right, there must be more but I can't even find at you are saying about Fentanyl on line.
Avatar f tn Suboxone is the brand name for a medication consisting of buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine is a thebaine derivative with powerful analgesia approximately 20-40x more potent than morphine. Buprenorphine is a partial agonist and antagonist of the opioid receptors in the central nervous system which means that when its molecule binds to a receptor, it will transduce only a partial response in contrast to a full agonist such as morphine.
Avatar m tn Subutex, which is composed of only buprenorphine, and Suboxone, which is a combination of Buprenorphine and Naloxone. It's my understanding that a physician requires even more education when ordering either of these drugs than the usual opiate education. The medical documentation required is even more stringent. Indeed it's now even more difficult to find a physician that will order Buprenorphine. The DEA is breathing down their necks.
Avatar n tn i am waiting to go on a buprenorphine maintenance prescription which will be next month.i have some buprenorphine tablets but when i take them i go straight into cold turkey.i have taken the buprenorphine tablets for a few years before but my prescription got stopped so i opted for the above tablets for the time being whilst im on the waiting list to go back on the buprenorphine.
Avatar m tn I am currently using 8mg of buprenorphine,1800mg of gabapentin and 150mg of wellbutrin daily as medicine for pain management and nerve pain. Now I'cant obtain gabapentin anymore and would like to transfer to oxycodone 120mg daily as a substitute for buprenorphine and gabapentin.I would like to know is such change possible.
Avatar m tn why cant i stay off the methadone for 3 days and than get a script for buprenorphine generic .and start my treatment detox at home. i do have a gp doctor.and i think he can do the buprenorphine program.
Avatar m tn When I saw my pain management consultant a few months ago he put me on Buprenorphine Transdermal Patches, 10mg. ! patch to be put on for 7 days. This is in addition to the Oxycontin. The patch has recently been increased to 20mg. I have recently started reducing the Oxycontin in the view of coming off it totally. I have so far reduced it by 10mg. My Dr hase prescibed me Oxynorm 5mg, once a day, incase I experience withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn It is hard to know for sure, though, whether I am correct, or whether buprenorphine (the active part of Suboxone) lessens the total misery to some extent. We don't know how bad off you would be if you had not take Suboxone. The general belief of the treatment industry seems to be that buprenorphine does lessen the severity of withdrawal, but I am not convinced that it does that. I am an advocate of using buprenorphine for longer periods of time than for simple detox.
