Buprenorphine dose for cats

Common Questions and Answers about Buprenorphine dose for cats

suboxone

Avatar n tn Oxycodone is not something recommended for cats that I know of, there are better opiates that are better tolerated especially for cats, the one I know is prescribed most often is Buprenorphine(buprenex). Please be sure to discuss this drug and the dosage with your Vet. http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?
Avatar f tn sorry forgot to add the 0.2mls prescribed was for the buprenorphine....too strong a dose will really zonk them out so best to err on the low side. good luck.
Avatar f tn ve read on holistic info sites that BUPRENORPHINE is the best and SAFEST pain med for cats....I know thats the one my Vet uses too. Is this for long term use?
306867 tn?1299249709 But YOU are taking only 1 mg-- and at doses below the ceiling dose, the dose-response curve for buprenorphine is a straight line. This is an important point to understand, because it is at the heart of the issue of why buprenorphine is different from opiate agonists like methadone, which have linear dose/response 'curves' throughout their dose range.
Avatar m tn Yes, it is a narcotic and very addictive. The brand name is Subutex. It is a very long-acting medication, which means at the proper dose, the patient will be "normal" and not experience the euphoric high as he did with his drug of choice. If an opiate naive person takes it, he will get high. Bupe is also used in a detox drug called Suboxone, which contains naloxone.
Avatar f tn So whether a person is taking one, two, three, or more tabs of Suboxone per day, he is taking a very large dose of buprenorphine--- a dose large enough to ascertain that he is up on the 'ceiling' of the dose/response curve.
Avatar n tn the ceiling dose for suboxone(8mgs buprenorphine and 2mgs naloxone per tablet) is 32mgs a day, and if you go higher it will actually become a full opiate antagonist, putting you into severe wd's, so the lower the dose,r gith around 4-24mgs is actually the best and most efficient dose of suboxone. Thats for buprepnorphine, the drug Subutex is just buprenorphine and no naloxone, but the naloxone is ineffective and not active if you take suboxone correctly(sublingually-under the tongue).
Avatar f tn in liquid form before being made as Suboxone, which is easier to dose. Buprenorphine is used for pain, mostly in Europe-- a skin patch in the UK called 'buTrans' releases 5-20 micrograms of bupe per hour through the skin. Six years ago, in 2003, Suboxone became available in the US.
Avatar m tn why cant i stay off the methadone for 3 days and than get a script for buprenorphine generic .and start my treatment detox at home. i do have a gp doctor.and i think he can do the buprenorphine program.
1800740 tn?1324237171 Suboxone is the brand name for a medication consisting of buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine is a thebaine derivative with powerful analgesia approximately 20-40x more potent than morphine. Buprenorphine is a partial agonist and antagonist of the opioid receptors in the central nervous system which means when the its molecule binds to a receptor, it will transduce only a partial response in contrast to a full agonist such as morphine.
1476285 tn?1287337784 One was maintained on this dosage while the other had dosage increased up to 12 mg/day, whereupon he developed hypersomnolence but managed to maintain that dosage. The third patient had been inducted with buprenorphine and titrated to a stable dose of 14 mg/day for two days prior to beginning antiretroviral therapy. The next day, the patient complained of daytime somnolence and decreased mental functioning.
Avatar f tn Back in 2012 of this month I went c/t off of all 3 but I did get the Dones down to 30-60mg. The treatment Dr would not take me because I was on too high of a dose for over 12 years and they did not know much about it..I had to go a few hours away to a Dr who wanted to prescribe Subs. Like alot about 3 to 4 of 8mg strips or more..I said NO WAY and did a taper in 4 days and that was not good. I only took 2 strips and cut it back and this through me into precipitated w/ds..
199177 tn?1490498534 Until recently, the only available buprenorphine product in the United States has been a low-dose (0.3 mg/ml) injectable formulation under the brand name, Buprenex®. Diversion, trafficking and abuse of other buprenorphine products have occurred in Europe and other areas of the world. In October 2002, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved two buprenorphine products (Suboxone® and Subutex®) for the treatment of narcotic addiction.
Avatar m tn When I saw my pain management consultant a few months ago he put me on Buprenorphine Transdermal Patches, 10mg. ! patch to be put on for 7 days. This is in addition to the Oxycontin. The patch has recently been increased to 20mg. I have recently started reducing the Oxycontin in the view of coming off it totally. I have so far reduced it by 10mg. My Dr hase prescibed me Oxynorm 5mg, once a day, incase I experience withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar n tn even 5 mgs is a very low dose for the habit you had...you should be somewhere between 12 - 16 mgs for the first week...a split dose. you should be on the 16 mgs the doc prescribed...then you can lower it accordingly easily. the point of taking sub at the start is to completely avoid withdrawals. are you letting the tablet COMPLETELY dissolve under your tongue? it can take up to 20 minutes at times... naloxone sensitivity is very rare...
Avatar m tn I see many people who follow a certain pattern-- they are addicted to opioids and lose everything, then they go on buprenorphine and get their lives back.... at some point they try to stop buprenorphine, and blame buprenorphine for their opioid dependence-- even though the buprenorphine was the only thing that saved them. They then struggle to stop buprenorphine, going back to their original drugs of choice to treat the withdrawal from buprenorphine! Crazy...
Avatar f tn There has never been much research done on subs, for addiction recovery and especially cross medication research. There is more research on buprenorphine as a pain reliever in low dose for short term use. You won't find the answer to your question, if you do, it will be the effect the combo had on the person who tried it. I have used subs with lithium only. There seems to be no negative effect. I tapered off it as soon as the lithium was working good enough.
Avatar n tn i have some buprenorphine tablets but when i take them i go straight into cold turkey.i have taken the buprenorphine tablets for a few years before but my prescription got stopped so i opted for the above tablets for the time being whilst im on the waiting list to go back on the buprenorphine.does anyone know how long i have to stop taking the deydrocodeine and tramadol for before i can start taking the buprenorphine again please.
Avatar m tn cant obtain gabapentin anymore and would like to transfer to oxycodone 120mg daily as a substitute for buprenorphine and gabapentin.I would like to know is such change possible.
Avatar m tn Mr. Fly1234: First, I'd like to congratulate you on tapering down your Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) maintenance dose. From other patients' experiences, decreasing the dose and discontinuing buprenorphine are not easy tasks for many. Under federal law, DATA 2000 or Drug Addiction Treatment Act of 2000, only qualified physicians can prescribe and treat opioid addiction with controlled narcotics medications, such as buprenorphine products (Suboxone, Subutex or generic alternatives).

1405767 tn?1282634598 Buprenorphine offers some advantages in that it causes less craving for the drug. The tolerance for buprenorphine also differs in that it is ‘fixed’ at a certain level; this probably is related to the lack of cravings for the drug.
Avatar n tn How are you holding up? Sorry about the late response, it seems every flight I have worked this week has been delayed! At any rate, lets see if I can help you out here. Buprenorphine is such a unique and often misunderstood drug. The reason being it has multiple methods of action, and some contradict the others.
Avatar f tn Since buprenorphine has such high affinity to the opioid receptor it will essentially displace, or knock off most other opiates they will try to use during the surgery. Since you already are on a very high dose of buprenorphine your requirement for opiates will be high and most of what they will give will not be sufficient. You might just have to deal with the pain by eating ice cream. Other anesthetics like gas. propofol and muscle relaxants should not be affected and can be used as usual.
Avatar f tn After a week on your starting dose, you should start to drop rapidly down to a maintenance dose of 2-4 mgs. Your sub doctor will try to keep you at a much higher dose for a long, long time. Cha-Ching, if ya know what I mean. To much Suboxone can make you very tired and is unnecessary dosage. Good luck to you on the Sub. I've been on it for over a year now.
