Common Questions and Answers about Buprenorphine and naltrexone

suboxone

Avatar f tn another way to live ? I take the Naltrexone but am I wrong to think that this is just to keep me from useing again and no other reason? It has not been the problem as far as I am concerned, I don't take or even try to take them, so why should I continue with the Naltrexone.? And why would my Dr. not let me try the Bup ? He says he can not write the prescription only an addiction spec., are the laws still like that ? Thank you for your reply.
Avatar f tn You are getting phamocologically confused with your frantic search for an answer. Suboxone is a compuond containing BUPRENORPHINE and NALTREXONE - - - Subutext contains only Buprenorphine. Both are used to treat opiate problems.
Avatar m tn Do you have a sub doctor? these would be things u need to talk with the prescribing doctor about Subutex does not contain naltrexone..suboxone does..they both contain the narcotic/partial agoist bupenorphine...I would imagine there would be a waiting operiod cos Nalorex is gonna block all the narcotics and would probably throw u into wds if bupe is still on the recptor sites...havent seen someone take this transition but gwetting off the sub is a good idea...
747988 tn?1396536878 just realised that buprenorphine is not the same as naltrexone but would still be interested if anybody experiences withdrawals!
Avatar f tn I wanted to ask...has anyone tries an opiate blocked? Does itwork if so and was the blocked hard to get off?
Avatar m tn Subutex is 100% Buprenorphine while suboxone is Bup plus Naloxone which is an opiate blocker. Some detoxes use Subutex to start to avoid severe withdrawl symptoms which can come on if suboxone is taken too early before severe withdrawls start. The reason Subutex is not widely used in the U.S. is it is easily abused. Subutex is widely abused and replaced heroin for many addicts in Europe. Take the option out of your hands....
Avatar f tn however there are some guidlines Opioid Substitutes Methadone and buprenorphine are both partially metabolized by CYP3A4.9 With boceprevir, concentrations of methadone or buprenorphine may either increase or decrease.1 With telaprevir, methadone concentrations are reduced.2 Patients on methadone or buprenorphine should be monitored during anti-HCV triple therapy to determine if a dose adjustment of the opioid substitute is needed.1,2 http://lmt.projectsinknowledge.com/Activity/index.cfm?
Avatar f tn It must he taken under the tongue because of the naltrexone. It is not absorbed sublingually and the buprenorphine is absorbed quickly that way. It is not absorbed in the stomach. Just the way the medication works.
Avatar n tn Suboxone is a medication that contains buprenorphine and Naloxone. The naloxone is added to the buprenorphine to lessen the odds that a user will abuse the medication. Because Naloxone can sometimes cause symptoms of opiate withdrawal, pregnant women wanting to take buprenorphine are normally advised to take Subutex instead. Subutex is exactly the same as Suboxone, but it contains no Naloxone, only buprenorphine.
1800740 tn?1324237171 Suboxone is the brand name for a medication consisting of buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine is a thebaine derivative with powerful analgesia approximately 20-40x more potent than morphine. Buprenorphine is a partial agonist and antagonist of the opioid receptors in the central nervous system which means when the its molecule binds to a receptor, it will transduce only a partial response in contrast to a full agonist such as morphine.
897400 tn?1303329148 It can be confusing to differentiate between Naltrexone, Low Dose Naltrexone and Naloxone. I have been reading other posts in the archives and see this. Naltrexone is FDA approved to treat opiate addiction. The dose is usually 50mg Low Dose Naltrexone is used off label to treat MS, Crohn's Disease, CFS, Lupus, some cancers, and very, very experimentally, Depression. It is not FDA approved for any of these uses, but it is not illegal to use it this way.
Avatar f tn I am 26 years old and I have had a problem with addiction for some time now. To make a long story short I have always had problems with my back so I started taking pain pills then pain pills stopped working and unfortunatley I started taking suboxone. I have been taking suboxone for a year and 4 months and I buy it from a friend bc I have no insurance.

1181063 tn?1264711290 the receptors under your tongue are small enough to absorb buperenorphine at that point on your body ....................the naltrexone molecule is larger and not absorbed there = only to be washed into gastric area by saliva and destroyed by gastric juices.............same with the Buprenorphine - - wash it into the gastric juices via insufflocating and you render most of it non-bioavailable...............dont waste it...........if you need it follow the directions............

Avatar f tn There are over the counter sleeping aid, such as Valerian or Melatonin that I sometimes recommend for insomnia related to withdrawals, but I suggest that you find a physician who you can speak honestly and openly with, and who will help you temporize such symptoms as depression and insomnia that may linger after withdrawal from Suboxone for as long as a few months. Good luck to you.
Avatar f tn Suboxone contains the active medication buprenorphine. There is a great deal of emotion around this and other sites over Suboxone; I encourage you to listen primarily to medical professionals, as some of the other opinions have taken on zealotry that is more likely to cloud judgment than buprenorphine! Realize first that Suboxone contains nothing new; the two medications have been used by doctors for over 30 years.
Avatar f tn Antagonists cause no opioid effect and block full agonist opioids. Examples are naltrexone and naloxone. Naloxone is sometimes used to reverse a heroin overdose. Buprenorphine is a partial agonist meaning, it activates the opioid receptors in the brain, but to a much lesser degree then a full agonist. Buprenorphine also acts as an antagonist, meaning it blocks other opioids, while allowing for some opioid effect of its own to suppress withdrawal symptoms and cravings.
Avatar n tn Hi Gulfportgyrl. Welcome to the forum. No, the analgesic effect of Suboxone is mainly responsible for helping you feel better. Yes they are both opioid antagonists, however, they have a different type of action. Naloxone is fast acting-was mainly designed for countering opioid drug overdose. Naltrexone - longer and slower acting- was designed for treating addictions.
Avatar n tn When you say connection - what do you mean. Can Naltrexone cause this disease or can it help it? Naltrexone wouldnt be used to treat it anyway - did you mean LDN - Low Dose Naltrexone? LDN is used to treat many autoimmune diseases. My husband has MS and takes LDN with great sucess. The original dose of the full dose start at 50mg whereas the low dose version is usually 4.5mg.
Avatar f tn OK, I'll try to explain this if I can. We're talking about 3 drugs. Their generic names are naltrexone, naloxone, and buprenorphine (hence called bupe cause I don't wanna spell it out all the time). Now, naltrexone and naloxone are basically the same acting drug. They both can be either used to "reverse" an opiate overdose, or stop an addict from getting an benefit from taking an opiate.
Avatar m tn Suboxone contains buprenorphine, a very potent opiate with a flat dose/response relationship. The result is that with Suboxone you are either 'on' it or 'off' it, rather than being able to regulate the dose. 'On' Suboxone means an opiate effect equal to about 30-40 mg of methadone per day.
Avatar f tn Hi I´m Portuguese and yesterday I was gone to the Hospital because i used heroin and take naltrexone...I saw the dead. I was almost in another life....If you consume drugs don´t use naltroxone--Believe me...Never again Luck for all..
2046312 tn?1360379600 However, it was reported in another study that ketoconazole increased the Cmax and AUC of buprenorphine (route unspecified) by approximately 70% and 50%, respectively, and to a lesser extent, of the metabolite norbuprenorphine. The interaction has also been reported with atazanavir/ritonavir.
Avatar m tn I am currently using 8mg of buprenorphine,1800mg of gabapentin and 150mg of wellbutrin daily as medicine for pain management and nerve pain. Now I'cant obtain gabapentin anymore and would like to transfer to oxycodone 120mg daily as a substitute for buprenorphine and gabapentin.I would like to know is such change possible.
Avatar f tn for a use other than the FDA approved disease). Because of the high cost of clinical trials and since Naltrexone is already FDA approved, there's little financial motivation to get further FDA approval for other disease conditions.
