Avatar f tn Hi - sorry to hear of your Crohn's diagnosis, but as a 38 yr "survivor", you can lead a happy and full life with this disease as there are so many new drugs available, other than steroids, which was the only med prescribed for Crohn's until about 10 yrs ago. I had a month or so on Entecort (budesonide here in England) but had a severe rectal haemorrhage and was hospitalised on IV steroids and needed blood transfusions.
Avatar f tn Side effects and allergies to drugs would be very different. Side effects could improve over time or with improved inhaler techniques. Allergies would stop you from using the medication completely. Allergies to medications should be limitated to certain drugs or ones that work very similarly. There should be other inhaled steroids (same use as budesonide) that you should be able to safely use. Another possibility is singulair if the asthma is allergy based.
Avatar m tn Hi, I have a daughter with EE, she was diagnosed 3 years ago, she is 9 now and she been on Singluar for the last 3 years which has helped a lot and there are no side effects (especially no agression). We are just starting to have problems again now and we are off to the Gastro again in a couple of weeks, but the Singluar was a great drug for her.
Avatar f tn For the past 7 yrs I have been on mtx, initially orally 25 mg a week, but last 5 yrs self injected mtx, 12.5 mg once a week and doing well. Budesonide does not have the side effects one gets with say prednisone, but I found it didn't work at all for me, probably because I also have Crohn's in the large colon as well as the small intestine. It is worth a try for you - it does work for some people who only have Crohn's in the small intestine.
Avatar n tn What you describe is probably being caused by the inhaled steroid (ICS) in these 2 preparations fluticasone in the Advair® and budesonide in the Symbicort®. And, it may be dose related, so that the first step would be for you and your doctor to consider reducing the strength of the ICS. You may be able to get optimum therapeutic benefit, with diminished side-effects, at the lower dose.
Avatar n tn As you know the clinical trials of Pulmicort Flexhaler® (budesonide inhalation powder) were performed on children age 6 and above. Since we know the medicine is safe for use in very young children from Pulmicort Respules™ (budesonide inhalation suspension) the most likely reason they chose 6 and above was because many children less than age 6 would not be able to use this delivery device effectively.
Avatar m tn I have had an ongoing sinus infection for over 5 years. Under the care of different doctors, I have been prescribed different antibiotics which have had limited success. The infection always returns once the prescription ended. My symptoms start with front and post nasal drip which is a reddish color, and sinus pressure.
Avatar n tn Celexa is a more preferred drug for OCD at a low dose for children. This drug seems to work the best with the fewest side effects. If you don't mind what type of OCD subject is it?
Avatar m tn m not sure if Zofran is used in children but you could ask. Tetrabenzene is used but that has some serious side effects so that might not be for children either. But there are other medications as well. Clonidine in patch form (Catapres) is especially helpful for tic like motions (tardive tourreticism which is a variant of tardive dyskinesia I have as well). I am on Tenex which is helpful as well. I believe both of those are used in children.
454366 tn?1211245301 Litium did give me a hyperactive thyroid condition. The med I was given for that has a side effect of osteoporosis in the lumbar in long term use (Synthroid). I ended up with litium toxicity a few years back because diuretics will cause that. As you know caffine is a diuretic (soft drinks) - which most kiddo's I know tend to drink. I would not allow litium to be given to my child; not going through what I have with it. I have a son who is ADHD.
Avatar n tn A similar drug, Formoterol (Combined with the inhaled steroid, Budesonide, in the drug Symbicort) while in the same class, might not have the same properties and perhaps might not exhibit the same cardiac stimulatory effect as Serevent. You might want to discuss this with your doctor. Another approach might be to avoid these two combination drugs, Advair and Symbicort, and substitute individual inhalert for each of the two drugs (the inhaled steroid and the beta-agonist).
Avatar n tn The cough cleared up for the most part, as did the wheeze, but the meds had serious side effects – I stopped the Levaquin after 8 doses, because it was making me depressed and exhausted, which I still am. I am also still coughing a bit (producing a little mucus), and feel short of breath, but my lung function is at 92% and I have optimal peak flow (475). I’ve cut back my meds to 220mg flovent twice a day, and albuterol when necessary. 1.
Avatar n tn I was also tested for celiac disease, and other gastrointestinal disorders. I have 2 children and were blessed with hemorrhoids after their births. For the last 3 weeks I have been experiencing the most extreme flare with the hemorrhoids! I'm also currently experiencing the diarrhea end of the forever oscillation between constipation and diarrhea. With this I have had the most EXTREME pain and itching. Also, I have some sort of "moisture" that occurs.
Avatar n tn My son just called and asked if I could drive him and some friends to the ice skating rink and I sadly had to tell him to ask dad. I heard a bit of sadness in his voice (he is 11) since he and my other children know that mom is always the one to go to for things.Thankfully my husband agreed to drive them but I feel guilty because I know hubby is not going to pick up the slack when it comes to the kids and I am sure that they know this too.
1367899 tn?1278121440 My sister and I started a blog on Adderall to learn more about the medication along with alternative and complementary ADHD treatment options. Any feedback from users of Adderall or Adderall XR would be greatly appreciated. Topics to be added this week on http://Adderall.org How is Adderall XR different from Adderall? [Adderall vs. Adderall XR] What is Adderall? How to Make Adderall: [Adderall Background Information] What are the best Adderall and ADHD books?
Avatar n tn Luckily, my pharmacist caught my allergy to methylprednisolone and told me it was the steroid used in budesonide. I wish you good health and I hoped this information helped.
Avatar n tn are their any adults who took it as a child and had long-term negative or positive effects? Does it slow growth in children? Are their negative effects on school performance? I would really appreciate a doctor's opinion, or any other person who has had a child who has taken Prozac. Thanks so much.
Avatar f tn I'm more worried about the hair thinning right now. I've seen posts about people thinking their hair thinning is a result of the medication. The side effects I've found is a long list and hair thinning has been mentioned. I'm scared to death and beginning to panic about it.
Avatar m tn Please go through the below head CT scan results of a 6 year old boy and kindly confirm if a repeated head scan exposes the boy to too of radiation. Will there be any long term side effects? Thanks in advance and would appreciate a quick response. Total mAs 17389, Total DLP 4450 mGy*cm Topogram --> kV = 130, CTDIvol mGy = 0.10(L), DLP mGy*cm = 2.54, TI s = 3.1, cSL mm = 0.6 BRAIN SPIRAL --> kV = 130, mAs/ref = 260, CTDIvol mGy = 69.75(S), DLP mGy*cm = 1484.93, TI s = 1.5, cSL mm = 0.
281209 tn?1209385426 I had a TT for papillary carcinoma in 7/07. I had a 30% uptake in my thyroid scan and they gave me 21mCi I-131 to bring down the dose. I just received my second dose (220mCi) last week, and expected nominal side effects. I've felt terrible since then. Loss of taste, overall nausea, etc. Anyone else go through this? My docs didn't mention anything about side effects (besides the normal salivary glands swelling). How long should I expect to feel this way?
Avatar f tn s so hard to predict how different people are going to respond to treatment in terms of side effects. Some people seem to go through with few problems, and others have varying degrees of side effects. There are also times during tx when you feel better and times you feel worse. I have seen many people with jobs make it through, and many folks with children also. You have to do what's best for you sometimes in order to be there for everyone else.
Avatar n tn http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/guanfacine_ad.htm http://www.depression-guide.com/tenex.htm http://www.drugs.com/mtm/tenex.html I don't see much that would describe your son's behavior here, but if he's taking other meds on top of this one, there could be a reaction.
