1196614 tn?1265075773 I had both bones broken too and they only nailed the tibia. I was told the fibula would align itself and heal as is. so far so good.
Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? Tibia is the shin bone that bears most of the weight and the Fibula is the splint bone located on the outside of the lower leg. In the case of a closed fracture there may be swelling and discolouration due to the large amounts of blood that emanate from a fractured bone. The usual healing time for a mid-shaft Tibia and Fibula fracture treated with cast immobilisation is 12 to 16 weeks.

Avatar n tn I've had my left ankle broken on sept 29, it was a fibula frature with a tibia dislocation, was on splint for a week, had surgery on oct 7th,plate + screws + a very long screw to place my tibia on the right place, splint for another week, then my orthopedist put me on aircast Air Stirrup Universe since then. He told me to start physical therapy a week after surgery, but I waited until 2 weeks. Now my foot hurts on an area that has nothing to do with the fracture.

Avatar n tn Pretty much getting back to normal after a year post surgery But when I visit my doctor for follow up, X-Rays still show my tibia bone still healing on broken tibia site. Doctor said this a delayed union and it should healed in time. He ask me if I'm in pain and if so he'll do bone graft and insert a bigger nail rod. But I'm in no pain other than slight discomfort and soreness when I do heavy activities.
Avatar m tn The nose end of the vehicle landed on her right lower leg, crushing the Tibia and Fracturing the Fibula. She was Med-Flighted the 40+ miles to Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children in Alabama. I would have preferred that she had been flown to UAB in Birmingham, Alabama but she was losing a lot of blood, so good thinking on behalf of the Med Flight Crew. Anyway, she spent 8 hours in the Pediatric Trauma/ER before seeing a surgeon...
623966 tn?1222194198 Xray shows the tibia screw protruding into the head of the fibula and lateraly rotating the fibula. My leg is still extremely painful but my doctor insists that everything is normal and that I don't need any pain medication yet he's telling me to take Ibuprophen which is reaslly working bad on my stomach. It's been a year and doesn't seem to be improving! Is this really normal?
Avatar m tn I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone. He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.
Avatar m tn Hello, Im 17 years old, almost 18 and when i was 14 i had broken my tibia and fibula in a football game and gotten a titanium rod placed in my tibia. i left it in following the doctors advice and ever since then i have had really bad leg pain and shin splints whenever i would run, sometimes even walk. i play running back and im starting to limp when i sprint and its making me quite slow. the pain is bad. If i were to get the rod removed would this pain most likely go away?
Avatar n tn About 8 months ago I had a very serious surgery that left 4 screws in my pelvis and 4 screws in my femur and a rod in my femur, my leg was broken in 3 places and my pelvic ring was broken. I am pretty much fully recovered but I still find it hard to walk fast and for long periods of time, my knee starts to hurt. I was thinking taking the screws and rods out of my leg would help me walk better. How long do they have to stay in before I can have them taken out?
Avatar m tn He had emergency surgery to insert two external rods between his femur and lower tibia to stabilize the leg and was released to go home today. His ER surgeon said he should have plates and screws installed after the swelling subsides, in two to three weeks. My question is: how long can one wait for this type of repair? It seems like the bone pieces would start to regrow together in a random manner.
Avatar m tn My mom had a fracture on her left leg. It was compound fracture with her leg broken above her ankle She had a steel rod put in her leg from the joint till the ankle. Got an xray done just of her left leg AP & Lateral view. The report is normal except for the 2 points mentioned as below: 1) Fixating devices are seen in situ. 2) Old fracture of distal tibia and fibula are noted. Not able to understand the above points and need to know if they are normal or is it cause of worry. Please help.
Avatar n tn my questtion is im still getting pain at the fracture site and im still walking with quite a heavey limp could anyone tell me how long i will have the limp and the odd nagging pain at the fracture site or will i have this for life? i have a rod and 3 screws in my leg to would it be advised to have these taken out after full bone healing and could this be contributing to the limp and pain.
Avatar m tn Based on the symptoms you've described it sounds like you need to see a doctor to rule out possible serious complications like broken bones or a blood clot.
Avatar f tn Has anyone broken their Tibia and fibia? I broke mine two years ago and am still having problems. I have a plate and eleven screws. I am thinking of having them taken out in the hopes that it will releive some of the discomfort. Any information from someone who has done this would be great.
Avatar m tn First off, thanks in advance! I’m 34 year old with a previous athletic lifestyle, I got hit by a pick-up truck in the spring of '06, I broke my right ankle and my left Tibia / Fibula about 4-5" above my ankle. The ankle seems to be fine, since all the pain resides in my left leg. I have a titanium rod through the Tibia and a half of a pin near the ankle, I went to the doctor about 2 months ago, and had the other half, that was broken, removed.
Avatar f tn Now,he believes I may having a bad reaction to the metal hardware?! What are the symptoms of this? I am at whits end with the pain and my leg shrinking to nothing. Please, any advice would be grealtly appreciated!
Avatar m tn The doctors at the local hospital placed a steel rod Inside the broken tibia and held it in place with 3 pins (after little research I think it is called an Intramedullary rod). For the first 3-4 years I didn't notice the the metal in my leg and lived a normal life each day, i.e. running, mild gymnastics training, caring for my elderly father(heavy lifting), and the life of a 16-20 year old. I am now almost 21.
Avatar f tn Many thanks to you for your reply. I think at this point in time we are going along with you of this being stress related as he shows no symptoms during the daytime. He leg was broken when he was run over by a "friends" vehicle which has traumatized him far more than we have realized. We will continue to monitor his condition/behavior and give more support to his emotional well being. Once again many thanks for your help, advice and time it is very much appreciated.
Avatar f tn I have a leg cast for a tibia and fibula fracture, yesterday I hit the cabinet with my cast when my crutch got stuck on the rug I went to the hospital I got casted at for the leg, and they said it looks broken, I see the os tomorrow, what will they do for my big toe!
Avatar m tn I had a compound fracture in October of 07. My Fibula Healed but my Tibia did not. I have had 4 surgeries. My last was to put a rod in and a bone graft from the “Bone Yard”. After 6 months it has not healed. I have been sent to a non-union specialist. I have talked to 2 specialist they do not agree on what to do. One says that my Tibia is 15 degrees out of line and that the fibula needs to be cut the bones realigned and a bone graft done. He says my Fibula will not heal back after that.
