m surprised a foot doctor wants to biopsy for a fibula fracture, which is located above the foot. Does he specialize in ankles as well, if that's what part of the fibula he found the the break in? What diagnostic tests did he order that he is able to charactarize as cyst-like calcifications? Did he explain why he felt biopsy was warranted? If you are not comfortable with this surgery, I recommend you cancel until you can get a second opinion from perhaps an orthopedic surgeon.
10, 240 lbs, and I get gout attacks from time to time (1-3 times a year). This pain started a year ago after I had gout attack on my left foot. I went to my family doctor and she just told me to get my foot scanned and X-rayed but she didn't see any broken bones. She only said that I have degenerative arthritis on my toe thumb even thou I said that I feel the pain on the middle top of my foot. She also said that the reason is because I'm over weight and I need to lose weight.
X-Rays have shown that it is not broken, and physical exam has shown that it is not sprained. The pain is on the outward side of my right ankle. It is a sharp pain whenever I put weight on it, but it also hurts to try to lift my foot up off the floor. Often times it hurts when I am just sitting and not moving. I cannot bend my foot up or down, and have difficulty moving my toes. The Dr. suggested that it could be some type of nerve damage, but I am unsure of what the symptoms are.
If you are a diabetic or have a poor immune system it could be neuropathy. Check with a endocrinologist they can run blood work and find out.
my ankle will become red and swell up like its broken and feels like its broken !this will last usually until i figure out what i had eaten that had soy beans or peanuts and stop eating it then a few days to a week pain would start to fade.. the ankle will then feel weak and sore for up to a month.. sometimes the illness attacks just one ankle other times its my whole leg and a really bad attack envolves both ankles kness and legs and sometimes hips and lower back....
Do you notice swelling, redness or burning of the right foot or big toe? It is possible that you have gout. I would suggest you see a physician to discuss treatment plans, but until then try to avoid any meat that contains organs such as kidneys or livers. Sometimes excessive consuming of these can cause gout, although there are many other causes as well. I hope things go well for you!
The Dr immediately concluded that it was a Gout episode and ordered blood tests and an x-ray to make sure no bones were broken or fractured. The blood tests came back with a uric acid level of 7.5; normal readngs for Kaiser are 4.0 to 7.0; I don't remember what the unit of measure these readings refer to though. Help. i woke up on Wed and couldn't go to work because my foot was so sore (where big toe joint is, and ball). Took 4 ibprofrin and hobbled into work 3 hours later. Got through day. Next morning i woke up at 3 am with more pain than i could fathom. Foot was red and very swollen. Excrutiating. Caught taxi to Dr. he said i have gout? blood tests showed normal uric acid level. Treated me for gout anyway. I'm on colgout. It's been 5 days. Still can't walk.
It allows the heart to pump your blood more efficiently. Was it RXed for your foot swelling? The Colchicine is used to treat gout. Two doses would not have been enough to know if it was effective in treating a gout flare. Gout doesn't always act the same in every person...however it's easy to rule this in or out based on Uric Acid levels in your blood. I assume your PCP has done this and that is his rationale behind dismissing Gout.
Hi! My right foot big toe is abnormally fat.My left foot big toe is normal. I am having this for the last one year. When this toe is pulled, I get pain. I cant recall any injury to the toe. I am not a diabatic. I am taking BP medicines for the last 20 years. Currently my BP medicines are Valent, NatrilixSR and ESAM. What could be my big toe to swelll like this. I do not know which doctor should I see for this problem.
My mother have severe swelling and pain in the primary toe of her left foot and in the ankle joint of her right foot. I am presently giving her 50 mg of Indocin twice daily and she have been drinking concentrated black cherry juice that is diluted with water.
My question is: Drinking concentrated black cherry juice will be helpful in gout treatment?

i have been diagnosed by my G.P. to have gout, but my Orthopeadic Sergeon seem to disagree. Syntoms: Acute pain in both ankles and mid-foot area. The pain lays me off from walking for days. The pain is likened to having needles drawn in and out of the effected area. My sergeon believes i am well out of the criteria to have gout as i am 33 male, active and lead a healthy lifestye...... his ideas reach towards mid-foot arthritis?
I have been treated for flare ups of Gout (or what my family doctor thought was gout) for approx 4 years now. I was told that as long as the flare ups did not occur often I should just watch my diet and take some mild anti-inflammatory medication whenever I felt a flare up coming on. This past year my flare ups have been more frequent and have been lasting longer as well as affecting both my feet instead of just the one.
I have been having problems with my left foot swelling for over a year now. At first the doctors x-rayed it and came back normal, then I had a ultrasound done to check for blood clots. Then they diagnosed me with Gout, but tested me for it and it was also negative. The swelling went away about 4 months ago, but in the last month it has gotten swollen again, very painful. To describe the pain is like someone stepping on the top of your foot, but never getting off.
