Avatar m tn If the fracture is not out of position, a simple cast may be sufficient for treatment. If the fracture is out of position, then surgery may be recommended to realign the broken bones, and stabilize them with screws or pins. The calcaneus is the bone in the back of the foot, commonly referred to as the heel bone. Calcaneus fractures are almost always the result of high-energy injuries. They usually occur as a result of a fall from a height, such as falling from a ladder.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with severe crush injury with multiple fractures to my left foot and crush injury and fractured ankle on the right. Avatar n tn I broke my tibia and fibula on oct 10th/2010, and had surgery, and plates and screws put in on both bones. It is now january 6th/2011. Im still not walking, or putting any pressure on it, and the doctor said that it is healing very slowly.. when i take off my boot brace, my foot is very crooked when it is flat on the ground. the doctor doesnt seem to know what is wrong. he said that the ex-ray looks straight, and everything looks good. it looks like my foot is just flopping over to the side..
Avatar n tn She was told in Casualty that there was tissue damage and damage to the tendons but no apparent broken bones. A few days later when some of the swelling subsided she began to walk on it. It ached but every so often she got a sharp piercing pain on the top; and underneath her foot. From the point of impact to her 2nd toe she could feel something like a very thin raised matchstick.

Avatar m tn I had a loaded pellet (approx 500kg) dropped on my foot by a forklift. No bones were broken but the pain causes me to cry, it is so severe. Much of the time my foot has a mind of it's own. I have been assessed as unemployable due to my foot injuries. Much of the time the foot and ankle are icy cold and most foot ware is near impossible to wear. I have been told I will have to have my foot amputated sooner than later.

108334 tn?1253644395 There are a lot of little bones in the foot. I had a hair line fracture of the foot that healed on its own. Some are more serious. But they'd have been looking for that. Is he swollen? You'd think sprain too but you'd notice swelling. I'd say he just hurt it and it isn't back to normal yet. Give it another day and if you are seeing no improvement, then call the doc. Also, side note. These are those teachable moments.
Avatar m tn ve described it sounds like you need to see a doctor to rule out possible serious complications like broken bones or a blood clot.
5857895 tn?1375557137 Anyway, even though this happened many years ago now, that same toe still looks wider than my other toes. Yes, the bones did heal. I think they told me to put my foot up as much as I could. My ex husband apologized profusely at the time. I think he felt badly. That's not why I divorced him. Anyway, as far as this injury causing lower back pain. You might consider making an appointment to see your family doctor.
Avatar f tn I have health issues, but am in relatively good condition. It took several months for my broken bones to heal enough to get out of the boot I had to wear. It had little to do with my overall health, which is good - apparently, my bones don’t heal quickly. Of course, slower healing is one of the unfortunate issues we deal with as we get older. We simply don’t tend to bounce back like we used to.
209987 tn?1451935465 The numbness is sure due to nerve compression and as the anatomy of your foot has changed with the injury. Continue your physiotherapy and you will be fine as your sensations will return back with time. Take care!

Avatar n tn The paddle crushed my foot right behind the ball of my foot and then folded and streched my foot down and into the shaft. I watched my foot and ankle stretch out unbeliveably far. I managed to get out after it tore my boot in half. I had amazingly had not broken bones and no torn tendons. The doctor said I shredded the "sleeves" around the tendons. I also had pretty bad laceration across the top of my foot that took 2.5 months to close and I am at 3.5 months now.
Avatar n tn Soft tissue injuries can hurt worse and take longer to heal than broken bones because we tend to keep using the injured body part. Did your doctor give you instructions like taking over-the-counter meds such as Advil or Aleve and using ice to keep the swelling down? It might be helpful to ask your doctor for a boot cast anyway just to keep it immobilized for a while while the tissues heal.
Avatar f tn Putting any weight on an operated foot or ankle can do damage to the repair that’s been done. Bones need time to heal. Plates or screws that may have been added during surgery need the bones to heal around them. Adding weight too soon can interrupt this important internal healing process.
Avatar n tn I fell off of a platform, which is about 6 feet high. Landed on my left foot and right heel. It hurt immediately and has hurt since (it's now the third day after the injury). It's getting slightly better every day - meaning that I am able to put more and more weight on it. There is slight bruising on the outside / right side of my right foot. No bruising on the back of the heel, the bottom, or the left. There was very little bruising around the ankle, but there is none now.
536929 tn?1217872077 It was a broken front right leg, both the ulna and the radius, broken in the forearm an inch or two from the wrist. And also, she had some bone(s) dislocated in her wrist. So the vet pushed the wrist bones back into position (I think) and tried to re-align the two bones of the arm/leg, the smaller one went back into position, and the larger one would not. The vet said "it went into position and then it popped out of alignment.
Avatar n tn What treatment did you have for the broken fingers? Splinting with buddy tape? Cast? Stiffness is normal after any injury especially a fracture. If you had proper treatment I would feel comfortable telling you to exercise your hand. Squeeze a rubber ball or silly putty. Do stretches of you fingers pulling them back to just past the point of stiffness then forward. If you didnt' have treatment and a follow up xray to confirm healing, I would get that done first.
Avatar n tn Then later on he could barely walk on the foot and now it is a little swollen an it is burised on the side, but my main concern is there appears to be a knot or large bump of some kind on the side/bottom of his foot. Do you think his foot is broken?? I am debating between going to the emergency room or waiting till morning and going to the doctor, so any fast help would be nice. Thanks very much!
