Avatar f tn Hello. Before you go for the surgery, make sure that focus of epilepsy is the temporal lobe only. If some other focus has developed, the surgery may not help eliminate seizures completely. There may be some changes in the behavior. He may have more anger outbursts. But these are uncommon. The main seat of personality is in the frontal lobes. Hence, his personality will not change with this surgery. I hope this helps. You may post any further queries if you have.

Avatar m tn If your son's epilepsy is a result of his tumor, his epilepsy will most likely remain refractory, i.e. not controlled with medications. Talk to your neurologist (epileptologists are much better...neurologists are pretty pathetic when it comes to epilepsy, unfortunately) about an inhospital surgical workup, find out if your son is a possible surgical candidate.
Avatar n tn t breathing and the short time that went by with out oxygen caused some brain damage that led to my abdominal epilepsy. They said that I would have it all my life or I would grow out of it and so far so good. Your son might have gotten it from the stroke.
Avatar n tn s have more seizures than other breeds due to the anatomy inside of their dome-shaped heads. They commonly have hydrocephalus and other brain abnormalities. In order to determine what is the cause of your dog's seizures an MRI would have to be performed. Sometimes skull X-Rays can show abnormalities. MRI's are of course very expensive.
Avatar f tn I have now been put on preventive migraines tablets, to see if the headaches are caused by migraines or the malformation. If the tablets work, I will not have to go for the operation. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they work. Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn The main cause of epilepsy is sudden hyper-charging reflex/impulses being send to the brain, for which the brain behaves in an un-controlled manner , which results into a series of activities, causing epilepsy. The only way to control it , is to keep it calm and hence we give such types of medicines, which help it to stay relaxed. Hence dose titration is a must as overdosage can cause hyper sedation and under dose can cause persistent symptoms prevailing inside the brain.
Avatar n tn It sounds like a scary procedure but is actually straightforward for a good brain neurosurgeon. The surgeon essentially inserts a microscopic endoscope that magnifies the area by 50x and uses a navigation system to get him there. It is minimally invasive. The medical literature says that most patients whose pineal cysts are not too large (e.g., < 4.5 cm) become completely asymptomatic after surgery.

Avatar m tn He should get that checked out. If he's had seizures, why haven't they done a neurological workup? He could have something causing adolescent onset of epilepsy. Seizures can have a variety of presentations, and if he's seizing in his motor and sensory cortices (they're right next to each other), that might explain the numbness and weakness.
Avatar f tn When a routine EEG is done in a patient with suspected or known epilepsy, often it is to look for inter-ictal discharges (i.e., abnormal activity resulting from "brain irritability" that shows a possible predisposition to epileptic seizures. 6015497 tn?1378356338 I am now 27 and for the past couple of years I have been having what feels like electrical zaps in my brain as I am falling asleep. They are very real, but not real. Sometimes I wake up thinking someone is banging on the door.

Avatar n tn It is good to know that most children will not inherit epilepsy from a parent, but the chance of inheriting epilepsy is higher for some types. Avatar n tn The doctor said to come back monday for more tests and that I will probably need a brain MRI because there is a history of epilepsy and degenerative brain conditions in my family. I was wondering if this could be epilepsy starting. My mom had temporal lobe epilepsy and she'd get sensory seizures that included a smell. She always had to stop and close her eyes and hold on to something so she wouldn't fall over.
