798555 tn?1292791151 Prediabetes is usually seen as a precursor to type 2 type diabetes, which is not the autoimmune type. Type 2 diabetes, was known as adult onset type, has a strong genetic component and is often associated with insulin resistance. This forces the pancreas to work harder and eventually it can't produce enough insulin. Type 1 is autoimmune type. This happens when the insulin producing cells of the pancreas are attacked by antibodies which destroy them.
Avatar n tn not saying at all that you shouldnt do that. my doc said with some fat and if nothing else make sure you eat Something. I have had a very hard time eating 20 g of fat 3 times a day. Lots of days I just dont feel Like I could eat anything when It is time to take the meds. I just do the best I can in a yucky situation. I do find my self justifying eating at Micky D's a little more. I have found that I am getting weird cravings. Big Macs, steaks, italian dressing, club soda, avacados.
Avatar n tn Good morning! I got my husband to read all the postings from yesterday! He kept saying "this is so cool!!", but of course when I tried to get him here on his own he refused! BUT he did ask me to ask every one about their diets. Our doctor has placed him on a 40 gram protein diet. He has seen the dietitian and is now feeling a bit sad and overwhelmed with all the restrictions that have been placed on his diet.

Avatar n tn Could you please tell me what complications over time can occur from high blood sugar levels. Also, are there any good snack ideas for a teenager with type 1 diabetes that has a lifetime battle ahead of him and is getting bored with the same old tasteless snacks? Thank You.
Avatar n tn They specifically eliminate blood sugar spikes, and keep the blood sugar in a normal range. Blood sugar spiking is another theory as to why many type 1 diabetics gain weight, and these low GI foods reduce it. Just a side note however, when I was on the diet, my blood sugar constantly went low and i had to compensate by eating multiple snacks throughout the day, something that probably offset my pound-shedding.
Avatar m tn Yogurt Linked to Lower Blood Pressure People who ate at least the equivalent of one serving every three days were 31 percent less likely to develop high blood pressure than those who ate no yogurt at all, Huifen Wang, PhD, of Tufts University in Boston, and colleagues found.
Avatar m tn Hello, I have a question. I've been told the normal blood glucose level is normal between 70 and 105. Mine was 103 just recently. I told the doctor I feel it is a little high, they said no, it is within normal level don't level, even though it is close to the end of the scale it doesn't matter. I was surprised he said that. I fasted for about 11 hours. I am 32, do not smoke, social drinker, mostly red wine, do not get a whole lot of exereice, but do get some, and have a sweet tooth.
Avatar m tn it's nice to hear someone mention diet in this thread. i have a lot of the same symptoms and have had all the usual tests (ekg, blood work, chest x-ray, hormone panel - I'm 49) and everything came back NORMAL, whatever that is. Anyone reading this should google MSG. It's a ubiquitious food additive that has been proven to affect people in a BAD way neurologically. I have given up on doctors--they are so out of touch and I feel are just in the game to push the drug remedies.
743476 tn?1236618423 When you have low bloodsugars, the food you eat can easily go to weight gain. I weighted between 130-145 thru highschool, not skinny but kinda round. Little things like "loving Diet Pepsi" or "not liking icing on cake" can help. I'm a teacher at a highschool and I have several students who "share" my stash of diet drinks or granola bars for lows. Ask your favorite teacher who has type 2 on the staff. Even better, they usually have a refridgerator.
Avatar n tn My maternal grandfather, my mother and my sister all have type 2 diabetes (my grandfather dx'd in his 40s, my mother in her 40s, my sister in her 20's - though she has other health issues, and I'm 30).
Avatar n tn Low GI carbs, usually complex carbs, don't raise blood sugar levels for a significant period of time. A sustained blood sugar level over 130 is considered to be a pre-diabetic state and indicates a raised risk of type 2 diabetes. Although being overweight or obese is considered a risk factor to diabetes, being thinner doesn't preclude one from getting type II diabetes.
Avatar m tn There are medications available to increase blood pressure, but of course, doctors are often hesitating to prescribe them. If my blood pressure is too low and my heart race, I just drink a diet coke and a glass of water. It helps me.
Avatar f tn My husband is 68 and was diagnosed with type II diabetes about 14 years ago. He's on 70/30 insulin, one shot in the morning and one at supper time. While he does not monitor his blood sugar, he does modify the amount of insulin he takes by what and how much he plans to eat. He pretty much eats whatever he wants to, and does snack during the evening. Over the last six months, he's had episodes of hypoglycemia during the night - anywhere from 1 to 4 am - on average once every two weeks.
Avatar n tn Thank you for visiting the family practice forum. When people come to my office with a "change" in their bowel movements, a thorough physical exam is in order, regardless of their age. Quite commonly, it turns out to be "nothing" but I feel as though when there is a change in bowel movements a physical exam is in order, at least. On occasion, when there are problems with the gallbladder or liver, insufficient bile excretion is associated with fatty stools.
Avatar f tn I begin the Clearvite diet next week. Read www.thyroidbook.com about this diet which cleanses the gut. Cleansing the gut and eliminating the toxins is the first line of defense in defeating thyroid disease. I will be on the diet for 24 days. No home baked breads, etc. So I'm pretty sure I will lose more weight.
1144849 tn?1395458766 I stopped eating all processed foods. I went to see a Naturopathic Doctor, and went on the “Blood Type Diet” I am Type A. I was now moving in the right direction. I discussed with my endo the problems I was having with Methimazole and she took me off it and, we parted company for the most part. I visited the Endo once more for a 3 month check up, (but more about that later). The concept of me not eating steak and potatoes was very foreign.
Avatar f tn She already said in her mail that she is very strict about her diet. I advocate a diet that people can stick to and gradually cutting back and out things that are causing the sugar levels to remain high unless, of course, blood sugar levels are so high as to be immediately life threatening. This does not appear to be the case here. Athletes also have other demands which need to be attended to.
443862 tn?1238003039 But if you eat PROTEIN instead of the granola bar, it won't make your blood sugar be high by lunch time. Also what you can do is add some PROTEIN to your breakfast so you won't be hungry so fast. The cereal lasts only about 2 hours. hanburger and fries will make your blood sugar go sky high and remain high for a long time.
Avatar f tn My bosses wife has almost the same undiagnosed issues (after TWO colonoscopies and endoscopies, CAT Scans, Sonograms and multiple blood and urine tests) and she found that a diet of chicken and veg seemed to be the only thing she could eat.
Avatar f tn research Celiac Disease and find out the best diet for you. No doctor appointment for a diet change. Read over the symptoms and see if these sound like what you are experiencing. Symptoms include but not all inclusive: The symptoms of celiac disease can vary significantly from person to person. This is part of the reason the diagnosis is frequently delayed. For example, one person may have constipation, a second may have diarrhea, and a third may have no irregularity in stools.
Avatar f tn Eating good carbohydrates is what is important, to make sure you have whole wheat, fiber, etc. Also the Atkins type diet would deprive the fetus's brain of needed glucose and may impair it's development. Here's an example of a healthy meal plan for a pregnant woman: breakfast: 1 whole wheat english muffin, 2 tbs peanut butter, 1 c low-fat vanilla yogurt, 1/2 c fresh strawberries, 1 c orange juice. midmorning snack: 1/2 cup cranberry juice, 1 oz pretzels.
Avatar m tn Hi...I have been diagnosed with Type II diabetes . Fasting Blood sugar 2 weeks ago, taken by general doctor, was at 470. He put me on Metformin 500mg. once a day and told me to change diet. After eating well for a week, my fasting blood sugar this morning was 255. I know that I need to eat carbs (whole grains) , proteins and fats. What is the best way to manage this? How do I balance foods throughout the day to help control this the right way? What proportions of each food can I eat?
488724 tn?1253554835 Do you think i could have Type 1 instead of Type 2 cause how could i progress so fast in not even 2 years yet, going from great control with just the metformin to poor control with so much, i've heard type 2s go to insulin but over 20 years not 2. And im only 22 and weigh 176, i've lost 20 pounds since diagnosed. So shouldnt i be needing less insulin not more if im a true type 2? #2: Could my eyes go this bad this fast from my sugar, am i looking at blindness at a young age?
Avatar n tn I went on Accutane for a year and WILL NEVER touch that stuff again or recommend it to anyone. Keeping my blood sugar under control (I'm type a II diabetic) has helped the acne and has eliminated my candida problems (recurring yeast infections, etc.). Thyroid problems could also cause many of these symptoms. Try an endocrinologist who works with teenagers and encourage her to drink lots of water and avoid sugars and excess carbs.
Avatar f tn By answering simple questions about what you like, you determine what type you are. Proetin type, carbo type are the two that come to my mind. He states by eating to your body type, you can heal a lot of your body's problems, and lose and maintain weight naturally, without extreme exercising. See why I like the book?!! Exercose is not on my ajenda.I already suspected I was a protein type, and this confirmed it. By following the low carb diet, I have lost 38lbs since Spring.
Avatar f tn I ALWAYS go over my sugar goal for the day, not even including the natural sugar in my fruit. I eat granola bars, low fat yogurt, cereal with added sugar, Luna bars, dark chocolate, sauces containing sugar, etc. I eat 1700 calories a day and at least 100g of sugar. I know all this sugar is bad for me, the problem is convincing myself to cut back. I lost 100 pounds last year, had my annual check up and all my numbers were perfect.
Avatar m tn How to control your weight with hypothyroidism, I mean is there a special diet, or some food you should cut off?
Avatar f tn Any results treating elevated blood sugar with Mulberry Zuccarin? this question was also posted some time ago but don't see any answers NE1 tried this?
