Avatar m tn There are some considerations when on Zyprexa, you will have to have occasional blood work done, as Zyprexa can cause high blood sugar, increased cholesterol and lipids. If you are at increased risk for heart disease, there may be some risks that you would want to talk to your doctor about.
Avatar f tn Metformim is a medication used to control or prevent the onset of diabetes and/or regulate blood sugar and this is how it helps with these potential side effects of Zyprexa but you could discuss the specifics with your psychiatrist. What you describe are potential side effects of concern from Metformim so you should inform your psychiatrist.
Avatar f tn t want to gain weight - I am still trying to lose the weight I gained on Depakote. I am also worried about the risks of low blood sugar/diabetes as I already have problems with sugar loss (though I am not diabetic), also the dizziness thing - I already have bad episodes of dizziness. I did tell her all of this but she just waved her hands about and said to start me on low dose.
739988 tn?1386672969 I have been on BP meds for several years. About a year ago I was diagnosed as diabetic. I've heard that the zyprexa and others like it can cause high blood sugar. Diabetes also runs on both sides of my family. Are there any mood stabilizers out there that don't cause Diabetes? I like the Zyprexa because it works really well for me. I guess I am just wondering if there is anyone else out there like me?
Avatar n tn It seems to have me syabilized but now I have read about the countess thousands of people who have gotten diabetes from taking zyprexa. I have high blood sugar anyway, so I assume I am at high risk. What should I do? Switch meds? If so, yo what? Or, stay with zyprexa? Any advice would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn I have had four months of nausea and dizziness because my dr. took me off Zyprexa and put me on another med. I thought my symptoms were from withdrawal but he said that I shouldn't experience withdrawal from Zyprexa, especially since the new drug, Seroquel, was in the same class. So I was told I had an inner ear problem for the last four months and have been suffering through these symptoms.
Avatar n tn Oh, and I meant to suggest you have your thyroid checked and also blood sugar. Hope it gets straightened out by the endocrinologist.
Avatar f tn I did as my doctor suggested (I am taking my metformin everyday), but have found many times my blood sugar levels around 68-92 after 2 hours of eating. I am just so confused. I feel that my glucose levels have been affected by these 2 medications. I do not know if this impaired glucose tolerance is something permanent or if it can be resolved.
1082697 tn?1260064616 i resently became very depressed. the doctor has aadded zyprexa to it. it is for bipolar but is also used to boost your antidepressant. it is working well. i feel totally back to normal i do not have any of side affects .it does make me very hungry but i watch what i eat. anyone else taking zyprexa? or celexa?
Avatar n tn Benadryl seems to knock the edge off of the tension and movement but I will still feel like my skin is crawling and like I have low blood pressure or low blood sugar. But it is enough sometimes so I can get to sleep. I have tried to not tak seroquel and switch to another drug but seroquel is the only medicine that manages my bipolar II disorder so I’m stuck trying to deal with this side effect but sometimes it’s so bad I want to wake my husband up to take me to the ER.
497950 tn?1255863927 m on Zoloft and Depakote - I still cycle but not as badly - I feel like a fat whale and have gained about 5 lbs (not that much really) I really liked how Lexapro and Depakote improved my sleep and lowered my blood sugar readings (I am also diabetic) but one dosage of the Lexapro gave me dysphoric mania and that is not good and a higher dosage gave me "pure" mania and I couldn't sleep and was quite crude SO.... Hope all goes well...
Avatar f tn Is there a blood test that can tell how long a person has been taking zyprexa?
559058 tn?1215810834 I'm bp, been on Zyprexa for 5 yrs off and on, gained weight of course, and know that it has tons of other side effects. But I know Depakote is not without side effects either -- like constipation, liver damager etc. What's worse? Plus, I know it causes weight gain also. What do you guys think? Thanks!
Avatar f tn My doc put me on abilify yesterday and warned me that it can cause serious blood sugar problems. This scares me because I have a family history of diabetes. Can a healthier diet and excercise plan help offset this possible side effect, or does it just happen anyway, no matter what your diet? Also, is there any other things I need to be warned about or watch for while I start this new medication? I am already taking lamictal as well.
628714 tn?1268238196 Hi Zyprexa (generic Olanzapine) is an atypical antipsychotic medication. 874521 tn?1424116797 Be sure his dr watches his blood sugar levels as these meds can make you go pre diabetic or diabetic.
222267 tn?1253302210 I can understand, when I was 16, I was put on 1200 mgs of Lith - my pdoc at the time took blood tests each week to make sure I was compliant, the labs were CC'd to my GP. I had some of the same symptoms but I also had 2 seizures on top of lethargy, serious trembling in my hands and no memory. My Neurologist insisted I go off, I listened to him, my pdoc thought I was faking it. My memory came back soon as I stopped and the trembling as well.
1082697 tn?1260064616 but now i do not need them. i have noticed my blood pressure is way up since i have gone on the zyprexa. only side affect.but i also started smoking again. i have read the zyprexa cause low blood pressure. i cannot find anywhere it cause high blood pressure. i hope it is just my smoking that is causing it. i am going back my quit on that.
Avatar m tn They diagnosed me with temporal lobe epilepsy and bipolar and gave me Lamictil and Zyprexa. The Zyprexa gave me a sugar problem...one of the rare side-feffects. I started eating glucose enrgy bars like mad!...it got worse than alcoholism and even put me on a high. Before that I could never eat much sugar, then I get all sick. Then suddenly one morning I woke up with this terrible sweet taste in my mouth.
401554 tn?1270213756 I am on Zyprexa 2.5 mg for depression. It has practically cured me but my heart is beating out of synch all the time now. I was diagnosed with a harmless heart arrhythmia a year ago and the Zyprexa is making it much worse. My cardiologist and psychiatrist said it was nothing to worry about but I'm scared. Risperdal also had the same effect, too. I tried Abilify but It made me way too jittery. Has anyone else out there experienced this?
Avatar f tn I started 5 Mgs of zyprexa about 5 days ago for psychosis, mostly "ideas of reference" the zyprexa is now added to my seroquel since I weaned off invega. So far, I am having less ideas of reference but not totally gone. Didn't expect a miracle in taking it less than a week. Can anyone please let me know their experience with zyprexa. How long it took to work and how it helped you. I would appreciate any advice and information on it.

Avatar f tn But this morning I got really lightheaded and a headache all of a sudden(which I know is normal in pregnancy) but I checked my blood pressure again to see if that was it, and it was perfect. So I checked my blood sugar and it was 79, I had just had a fruit smoothie. The medical assistant at work told me it was low, and then another told me it was slightly low. My question is does anyone know what it should be? I go to the Dr tomorrow so I will ask him, but I'm just curious.

Avatar f tn Anything with carbs is going to spike your blood sugar. If your trying to stabilize blood sugar, I would recommend eating lots of protein and vegetables. As for carbs, choose the healthy carbs or brown rice and more slow digesting carbs. That way your blood sugar won't rise as high or fast. I'm type 1 diabetic and pregnant, so u have been testing blood sugar like crazy for a good amount of my life.
